I really, really enjoyed this book. It is incredibly sexy, with a lot of very well-written sex scenes that don't feel at all gratuitous. The plot kept my interest until the very end, and the romance developed at a very nice pace; it started off with sex and attraction and grew into something more. I had a hard time with the pace of the book. It wasn't awful - but I felt like the "parts" weren't really balanced correctly and that the end was a little rushed and unsatisfying in some ways. A very sexy and exciting paranormal. I loved the hero and heroine, who were both witches and who were fighting the bad guys. There were many sexy love scenes. Mira just found out she was an air witch and had powers and it was fun when she was just starting to learn how to use her powers, with the help of fire witch Jack. Jack was a sexy and caring hero. And I enjoyed the action packed conclusion of the book. I'm looking forward to reading "Witch Blood", the follow up to this book!

There is an audience for Anya Bast's Witch Fire, but unfortunately I am not it.

Here's the Not My Cup of Tea part: this is one of those paranormal romances that's very heavy on the sex and fairly light on the plot, and for that matter, fairly light on the romance. I knew Bast had lost me when I'd gotten sixty or seventy pages into the book and knew little more besides that 1) our heroine Mira was an air witch, 2) our hero Jack was a fire witch who had been surreptitiously keeping watch on her bec...more There is an audience for Anya Bast's Witch Fire, but unfortunately I am not it.

Here's the Not My Cup of Tea part: this is one of those paranormal romances that's very heavy on the sex and fairly light on the plot, and for that matter, fairly light on the romance. I knew Bast had lost me when I'd gotten sixty or seventy pages into the book and knew little more besides that 1) our heroine Mira was an air witch, 2) our hero Jack was a fire witch who had been surreptitiously keeping watch on her because bad guys were out to get her, and 3) they were hot for each other. Especially #3, because the vast majority of the first sixty or seventy pages are devoted to telling the reader in very blunt and straightforward language about the effects Jack and Mira have on one another's libidos. This continues through much of the book, with our heroine in "zomg he kidnapped me and yet I find him strangely sexy" mode a lot, and some mild bondage play as well.

Here's the part I did like: the setup isn't anything terribly new or different. You can't swing a stick in the fantasy genre without hitting a series about elemental-based magic--and certainly it's hard to top the fun that Rachel Caine is having with that exact schtick over in the Weather Warden novels. That said, I do actually like that schtick, and I wish that Bast would have spent more time describing how magic works in her world and less on how Jack and Mira wanted each other's pants off, because she does seem to have an interesting take on magic. She's also got some promising politics set up between her good witches (the Coven) and her bad witches (the Duskoff), which I expect will provide the fuel for the series in general, unless she's planning on introducing other supernaturals into the mix. Her prose is readable, and once we finally got some action scenes and plot developments, my interest did pick up a bit.

Had there been a bit more plot setup at the beginning and some time taken to let the reader better get to know our heroine before smacking her upside the head with Le Sexx0rs, and more plot in general to balance out all the hormones flying around, I think I would have liked it better. I will say that unlike some authors who write heavy sex, I can actually see why others would find her sex scenes sexy--so if they do sound like your cup of tea, three stars for you. For me, since I prefer a subtler brew, two and a half.(less)

The main characters were well written and endearing, but the secondary characters could have used a bit more development, especially the bud guys. Overall though, it was a fun, quick read, and fairly imaginitive.

I really liked this book! The concept of every witch having a special affinity to a certain element is new to me I haven´t read something like that until now. The plot was quite exciting and managed to keep me interested till the end. The two main characters were likeable and their romance full of sexual tension – the sex scenes hot and explosive – you know air is fueling fire…lol! What however spoiled my reading fun a bit was that Mira behaved really childish when finding out about Jack´s secret. Throughout the book she seemed to be a mature person to me so I was a bit confused about this twist in her characterization. And, sorry - the old pattern from Stone Age about girl goes after villain herself because she overestimates the ability to wield her powers and then has to be rescued by boy – made me raise my eyebrows. I thought she was a very mighty witch at least this was mentioned throughout the book and then she needs to be rescued?? Well, be that as it may I really enjoyed reading this paranormal romance and will certainly read the next book in this Elemental Witch-series „Witch Blood“ where Thomas, Mira´s cousin and an earth-witch will play the main part!

Steamy. This is the foremost thought it my head as I think back to finishing this book last week. I actually really enjoyed this concept of wiccan's with abilities. Most of novels that have witches as their paranormal creature of choice don't interest me, but this had a druid/witch feel. Great little paranormal romance. Short; only 278 pages. And very steamy. With a capital S. But there was also a good story. Simple but interesting world building, just the way I like it. Horribly written pornography

The "story" was just a carrier (and a badly written one, at that) for porn scenes. No, not sex scenes - this is right up there with the rest of the pornography in the back of the porn store. More violence against women as "sexy" ---- "oh, please tie me up so I can't protect myself and take your wicked ways with me, oh, my!!" A twisted sickness that makes it ok for one person to hurt and denigrate another. I am all for play - but play twisted around a core of dominance and pain need it's head examined. OK, maybe all of you were sexually assaulted as children, and have gravitated to being demeaned as being the only way you think you can be loved. Believe me, been there, done that, had the t-shirt ripped right off my back and used for cuffs. You DON'T have to put up with it - believe me. Get some help.

This piece of poorly written trash is definately yet another example of the "Shades of Gray" sickness that is overwhelming publishing at this point in time. Horrible writing as a vehicle for shock-jock style porn.

It is about time those of us with some sense of intelligence and a genuine care for the safety and well being of our sisters, daughters, and friends stop putting up with this kind of sick and twisted behavior being counted as acceptable. If you stop reading it, they will stop writing it - the publishers don't publish what doesn't sell. What is really sad is that this got published in the first place. I can't complain about this book. I'm a romance novel junkie, but I tend to like things mixed in with the romance plot, whether it's paranormal elements, suspense, humor, etc. I bought this book without much expectation, so I can't really say that I was let-down.

We have your average adult woman, Mira Hoskins, a waitress of a local diner. She is just coming out of a terrible divorce and believes everything that her scumbag of an ex-husband told her. She's frigid, doesn't know how to please a man, yada yada. She believes that her sexual cravings for the male species has depleted entirely until the handsome stranger walks into the diner.

Some beef that I have with it is how much Bast continually tells us how attracted they are to each other. We as an audience don't particularly need that information shoved down our throat constantly, but I digress.

I like how she sets up Jack's introduction. She gets it across in very few words that he's a powerful being. He only had to bark out a few words to send Mira's nasty diner patron running away.

Anyway, we learn that Mira is a powerful and rare witch that wields the element of air. She doesn't believe it at first, of course, and is none-too-thrilled when she finally, grudgingly starts to accept that it's true.

After that, the pacing is kind of average. Not spectacular, but not terrible, either. She's essentially being held hostage by this guy (Jack), then discovers surveillance photos of herself, yet she's still pretty eager to jump into bed with him regardless. It also bothers me that she doesn't really try to escape from the situation. She's being held against her will, yet there was maybe a grand total of one escape attempt. He tells her that he's the only one with the code to the elevator and then she just gives up. That doesn't really fit her personality, so that's kind of annoying.

I guess overall, I give this a 3.5 and not a full 4. It's good for what it is. If you're expecting more, than you'll be disappointed. (less)

This is the first book I've read by Anya Bast, and I enjoyed it. It started strong and ended strong with some interesting aspects throughout the book.

The characters are well-written, likeable (except for the bad guys of course!) and multi-faceted and just flawed enough to keep you wondering what they might do next.

The sex scenes that Bast writes are extremely explicit, lengthy and detailed. While sex in a story like this is an expected and required feature, and I enjoy them as much as...more

Her powers were kept secret from her to keep her safe from the evil organisation who really murdered them, their powers drained so demons could be summoned. Fire Witch Jack McAlister has been sent by The Coven, the ruling body for Witches, to keep her safe and escort her to the Coven before she can be taken and used for the same deed. One slight problem is that Air and Fire have a natural overwhelming attraction and Jack is forbidden to give in to the fire raging within him. Mira struggles equally with the power that threatens to consume her and rather than the balancing of their elements that time together should have brought, the fire burns ever brighter.

Apparently I have a soft spot for secret societies of people with special powers living within our mundane world and fighting the good fight against their evil counterparts. Add in hot men and gutsy women and I’m hooked.

Witch Fire piqued my interest by hitting all those spots and ramped it up with a good story, passionate scenes and well rounded characters. I loved Mira and Jack, they worked really well together and were believable as a couple, even as Mira learns the truth about who she really is. The love scenes were pretty steamy and exciting but not excessively written and it did amuse me that most of the book took place in just three locations. I actually also found that quite impressive. The plot itself is quite simple but I don’t think that’s a bad thing as I feel the story is mainly about the main players. I liked the elemental ‘magic system’, it was intuitive and creative, and along with the wiccan ideals and practices made a sturdy base to build it all from.

I did feel the premise lacked originality, which only left the characters and their interactions to help the book stand out from the crowd. Saying that however, Witch Fire did have a lot of heart. I felt Anya Bast wanted the readers to love her characters as much as she did, in that she succeeded.

Looking forward to reading more in this series!

Here's a book that drew me in from the very first sentence..and one which was hard to put down till i reached the end. It had sparkling Magick, a burning Romance with smoldering Sex - a lot of it, fabulous Chemistry between the main characters and an evil Villain worthy of great defeat! What more can one ask for!? I think the author did an excellent job describing the energy between Jack and Mira.

The kissing, was so detailed... that if felt like a memory.
Astrologically, I am a fire sign and my husband is a air sign.
I remember, what it felt like to be so young and in love.
To get that chance, to remember it and see it so clearly in the exchange... it felt like a gift.
It was exciting to read about the exchange of energy.

this book was an excellent read.it has all of the types of feelings and desires in this book.i love reading about how mira and jack fall in love and how they feel about each other.both of them keep trying to stay away from one another but they end up coming closer and closer each time.mira eventually learns how to use her magic pretty quickly throughout this book and she and jack have some...moments.

SPOILER: mira was just a girl in the beggining, she knew she was never going to love another man after her divorce....but she was wrong about that after she meant the hunky jack. jack may just seem normal, but he has secrets....some too dark to tell. mira eventually learns shes a witch and learns how to control her powers throughout this book. eventually, mira and jack ends up falling for each other, crane ends up killed by mira, stefan ends up running away(for now-mira believes he would most likely come for revenge for her killing his only father), but at least she got a happy ending with jack!jack ends up giving his life to her and proposing to her in her house/apartment.(less)

Look, first I want to say I really liked this book. Though it wasn't an original plot, but it was nicely written with some --okay, a lot-- hot-and-heavy scnenes in it.
What frustrated me mostly was the fact that Annie was such a stubborn, selfish, reckless BITCH. I mean, hel-lo? This is the first book I read from this author and I'm pretty impressed I'll stick to reading the rest of the books in the series.

Wow, I would say this borders on soft porn. There is so much sex and then more sex. Did I mention that there was alot of sex? Hot and steamy, well written, definitely keeps the juices flowing! I really liked the storyline and I read it in one sitting. I also thoroughly enjoyed the character couple, Jack and Mira. I hope to read more about them in the future else I will miss them. They really seem to stick to me.

My Review / Thoughts / Feelings / Strapline:
This review almost went over onto my erotica review blog, because WOWZA! It is heavy on the erotic. I have to say, that I was expecting a bit more plot -- the plot was there, and it was all good and neat and tight ... but I was just expecting a bit more and it never came.

Up until now her life has been very uneventful, her parents died when she was young and she was raised by her aunt, so it comes as a big surprise when that night a couple of strange men smash her apartment door to smithereens and knock her out. When Mira wakes up the hunky customer that she has been mooning over claims he is rescuing her and taking her to a safe house and her two attackers are now unconscious on her floor. It turns out Mr Hunk is called Jack and he claims he is a Fire Witch and that Mira is a very powerful Air Witch. Because Air Witches are rare, she is being hunted by an evil band of witches, the Duskoff Cabal, who had killed her parents. Jack belongs to The Coven; the good witches. Of course Mira just thinks Jack is utterly insane as he explains it all to her – but a phone call to her aunt confirms that it is all true. Jack has to train Mira up in her powers real quick so she can protect herself from the Cabal when they track her down as they need her to close a magic circle and raise a demon. Trouble is the only way to fire up her power is by intimate interaction between Jack and Mira.

A little too much explicit sex for my liking, but I just flipped through those pages and got on with the story. In fact there was a lot of sex – I don’t mind a bit if it is well written – but these witches really seem to like their rumpy pumpy! Other than this I enjoyed Anya Bast’s version of the world of witches. Mira grows as a character starting out afraid about being a witch and then rising to meet the challenges and learns how to save herself and contribute to saving others. There is a clear line between the goodies and baddies – in some books the lines merge at times – not so here all very clear cut. The main characters were well portrayed and interesting, and even the badies had character. Fans of romantic paranormal with a bit of a bite will like this one.(less)
