The Children’s Choice Award Bad Kitty vs. Uncle Murray by Nick Bruel is a story about Bad Kitty and Puppy who is left with Uncle Murray when the owners leave to have their new baby. During the pet-sitting, Bad Kitty and Uncle Murray don’t get along which causes Uncle Murray to leave. However, Uncle Murray changes his mind after leaving and comes back. Bad Kitty is quite an annoying cat, but, she is also just plain goofy. It is not her fault that she is scared of big, loud Uncle Murray, who is pet-sitting her and Puppy while their people are away for a week. Even though he doesn't understand why she hides and screams at him, he still does his best to feed her. But, the line is crossed when she gets outside and a horde of cats chase him while he tries to catch her. Then, he leaves her by herself, which also causes her to be scared. However, he...more

Oh, boy. How am I going to rate Bad Kitty vs. Uncle Murray? My niece *adores* the Bad Kitty books, and my nephew likes Bad Kitty vs. Uncle Murray in particular. Both kids laugh their heads off at Bad Kitty vs. Uncle Murray. In addition, my niece likes to read Bad Kitty books aloud, and I have noticed an improvement in her expression and fluency, so it's really hard for me to say what I'm going to say next about Bad Kitty.

I cannot stand these books! I love that the kids love them (hence the four...more

Uncle Murray comes to take care of Bad Kitty and Puppy while their owners go away. Let the games begin. First of all, Bad Kitty is a touchy little cat. Bad Kitty needs to be handled with care and Uncle Murray is like a bull in a china shop. After some hilarious non-starters, Uncle Murray decides that goofy cat isn't worth it and he leaves. However, responsibility gets the better of him and lucky for us readers, Uncle Murray returns to take care of the animals. An uneasy alliance is formed. When...more

Our favorite foul feline is back for another rousing round of pain and hilarity in "Bad Kitty vs. Uncle Murray".

SPOILER ALERT!!!

Uncle Murray for some crazy reason has taken on the saintly task of kitty sitting Bad Kitty for an entire week, along with the drool-challenged Puppy. We learn immediately that Bad Kitty has an intense dislike for the affable Uncle Murray, and reacts like any skittish kitty - he trashes the places and takes Uncle Murray's sanity with him. The non-fiction side stories we...more

Bad Kitty is back!!

With Puppy and Uncle Murray..

Uncle Murray?

Who is Uncle Murray?

Uncle Murray is going to watch Kitty and Puppy while their people are gone for the week.

But where did their people go?

This book is great! Full of zany kitty action that will really get you inside a kitty's head.

It's also full of 'real kitty' facts. Like why cats are afraid of people, vacuum cleaners, and why some kitties don't like to be left alone.

This book is a chapter book and would be great for little ones who...more

6/10/11 ** Day 14 Book 18 ** This chapter book edition of the Bad Kitty series is a great transitional chapter book for kids who love humor. This is the tale of Bad Kitty and Puppy who've been left for a week with Uncle Murray. Of course, Uncle Murray loses the battle of wits. With a combination of text heavy pages, full-page comic images, and comic-book style frames, Bruel does a great job capturing the idiosyncratic nature of cats. You won't want to miss the cat diaries in which 16 minutes tra...more

This is another funny graphic novel in the Bad Kitty series by Nick Bruel. While I think our hands-down favorite book in this series has been Bad Kitty Gets a Bath, this is also a very humorous book with hilarious illustrations. It's a very entertaining story, and although graphic novels are often difficult to read aloud, we all took parts in the story and read it aloud together. Our girls especially loved all of the onomatopoeia and occasionally argued over who got to read them. Overall, it's a...more

Speaking just for myself, I liked it. Funny, clever, good interjections about really caring for real cats that actually told me stuff I didn't know. But I have to give it another star because I know there are kids who would absolutely love this. Kids who are fans of The Adventures of Captain Underpants and are almost ready for Diary of a Wimpy Kid but don't think they like to read will definitely benefit from this lively mix of beginning chapter book and graphic novel.

Bad Kitty's family is leaving for a trip. Bad Kitty will stay home with Puppy and Uncle Murray until the family returns. And they promised to bring a surprise!

Well, Kitty doesn't like strangers. He takes a particular dislike to Uncle Murray. The next few days are going to be hard on Uncle Murray as Kitty manages to get in the way everywhere and anywhere he's looking. Eventually Kitty becomes so freaked out that he heads out the front door. Of course Uncle Murray gives chase. As does every other...more

This is a children's book that we bought for our LO, who isn't due for another 6 months. :) We saw this series in the bookstore, and knew we had to have it. Yes, it will be a long time before our child will be able to read this book, but I'm glad we got it.

This book, along with others in the series are short beginner chapter books, that tells a humorous story of Kitty. But, for families with cats, it's extra special because it features little tid-bits of info on cats and why they have/do specifi...more

Bad Kitty's owners are off on a trip and Uncle Murray is in charge. Sadly, Uncle Murray's more of a dog person, so he's constantly startling Kitty with loud noises and sudden movements. But when the door is left open and a startled Kitty makes a break for it, Uncle Murray realizes that he might be in over his head.

A very cute early chapter book that is funny. The illustrations have that zany quality that is the hallmark of the series. This will appeal to a lot of readers.

Uncle Murray first appears in Bad Kitty when Kitty threatens to "eat Uncle Murray" if she's not fed any of her favorite foods. Since then he's been a recurring comic foil for Kitty.

In Bad Kitty vs. Uncle Murray the rivalry is explained and turned into another cat behavior lesson. This time the focus is on why cats are prone to spooking. Among the lessons are why cats howl, why they poof themselves up and why they won't eat when their human family leaves.

Interjected with the lessons are the point...more

Kitty has to spend the week alone with Uncle Murray and puppy. Uncle Murray. Kitty is very scared of uncle Murray. Bad Kitty vs. Uncle Murray is an O.K. book. It is a very easy read. You can finish it in about thirty minutes. At a time in the book Kitty is stuck outside and Uncle Murray tries to catch Kitty which just scares him away. Bad Kitty vs. Uncle Murray is realistic fiction. Because it could happen but it hasn't happened.

Bad Kitty may be bad, but I love him anyway. A cat's perspective on what goes on when his owners go away and the pet sitter comes to play - complete with snarky, cat-like commentary! I liked how Bruel also incorporated sections explaining feline behavior, which added a nice component to help kids understand their pets. Plus, the drawings of Uncle Murray looking more and more frazzled made me laugh out loud!

My kids like this series. The stories are simple and silly. It's a simple paperback chapter book, with plenty of black and white illustrations, and some different text - bold, larger, speech bubbles, etc. So I'd read some, my 8 year old would read some, and my 6 year old would read the bold. So for us, this series is a good pick to read as a family. The whole book takes only 30 mins or so.

This is a cute little book great for reluctant readers or fans of the Wimpy Kid-style of writing with graphics and text together. This is the newest addition to the Bad Kitty books and it is about the same as the rest.

Bad Kitty doesn't like being babysat by Uncle Murray and craziness ensues. Kids will really enjoy the humor and love all the pictures. It will be very easy to booktalk.

I don't know who's side I'm on Bad Kitty's or Uncle Murray's! Well poor kitty is sad and wants his owner to come back and Uncle Murray did nothing wrong to the cat and is getting poorly treated by Bad Kitty! Oh! Now I know whose side I'm on! the owner's! If I had to deal with that cat every day I would deffinitly consider taking a vacation! You rock, Nick Bruel!
Claudia
A very humorous book! When Bad Kitties owners leave for vacation for a week, they hire a Cat-Sitter (Uncle Murray) who is a jolly guy until Bad Kitty strikes and he gets MAD because he always scares kitty and then kitty HATES him...their dog loves Uncle Murray...Kitty only wants the surprise his owners bring him. Read this book to find out what the surprise was...

Cute kids story, especially if read out loud about a cat and dog as they are being taken care of by a relative. The resulting shenanigans are hilarious and include kitty ninjas with spatulas. Info about cat behavior is also mentioned to teach the little ones a little something. Uncle Murray also has a touching story about a stray dog when he was a kid.

This one was entertaining, but not as good as previous installments. In this book, we find Kitty and Puppy left with Uncle Murray while their people go away for a week. There are some funny parts, and Kitty's friends from Happy Birthday, Bad Kitty! make appearances, but I didn't find myself laughing out loud like I did with the others.

I started reading this with a boy, and we were both laughing out loud about what was happening in this book. Some pages have little text and some have a lot, so this is a quick read. We both wanted to keep reading to see what other goofy stuff Bad Kitty got into. The other character, the puppy, makes it funny, too.

SOOOOOOO much better than the picture books! Adored it. Bad kitty makes the funniest faces that always make me smile =) Great information about the true nature of cats to help kids learn the best way to interact with them...which I thought was awesome! Taught me a few things too. Funny, cute, a must read!!!

I think this is a good book because bad kitty owners go on a trip and they are gonig to bring a suprise back, and someone named uncle murray is coming to visit, to take care of puppy and bad kitty. Bad kitty got its name because UM thought it was being bad becuase it kept going screech at UM. And the pictures were also funny.

I liked everything about this book except for Uncle Murray's story about his puppy. Talk about a jarring and awkward shift in pacing. Fun read overall, and the illustrations match the tone of the story perfectly.

The Bad Kitty books are hilarious, and Bad Kitty is a great character. In this book, the unseen human owners are going away, and Uncle Murray is left in charge of Kitty and Puppy. Those familiar with Kitty's personality know that this can't end well. Kitty's adventures with Uncle Murray are broken up by Uncle Murray's informational asides about why cats act like they do. Kitty and Uncle Murray do make peace in time for the owners return, and the owners have brought with them something that is su...more

Uncle Murray comes over to care for good dog and bad kitty for a week. Bad Kitty is continually upset by Uncle Murray and works to get revenge on Uncle Murray who thought they'd agreed to a truce. Obviously written by someone who is a cat hater :)
