"Good gracious!" said Alice, "I do believe I'm inside a review!"
She turned to the Hatter and the March Hare.
"Well, let me see. Here is the title, and here is the date I read it. That must be today. Now I need to explain the plot and the overall point."
"There is no plot," said the March Hare disagreeably.

Having just finished Alice in Wonderland, the first thing that occurs to me is that I wish I had read it years ago. I've known the story of Alice for years thanks to Disney and the Mad Hatter on Batman, but for some reason I didn't get around to reading this as a child. While I expected to like it, I never realized what a joy this book would be.

More...

Whenever I have something to write for university, for personal entertainment or as a review I always start at a basic idea. A single question or thought that I can grow my writing from organically. Sometimes it could be a question such as 'what if Mondays became Tuesdays?' My answer, we'd want Tuesdays to become Wednesdays and so on until we had nothing left but Sundays. In this case as I come back and write this review of a book read years ago my question is: Is Alice in Wonderland really a ch More...

I always have a hard time reviewing the "classics." Not so much because I don't have anything new to say - I have my own impressions - but more because what if I didn't like it? Does that make me poorly read or did I just not get what everyone else got? There's a very good chance of the latter no matter what I'm reading, let's just be honest.
But that's not that I didn't like Alice's Adventures in Wonderland. I gave it 4 stars as you can plainly see (although you'll see in a minute I actually gav More...

I think that the failure not only of Children's Literature as a whole, but of our very concept of children and the child's mind is that we think it a crime to challenge and confront that mind. Children are first protected from their culture--kept remote and safe--and then they are thrust incongruously into a world that they have been told is unsafe and unsavory; and we expected them not to blanch.

Today, when I met with my Japanese, ESL student, we read from a book containing many short stories, biographies and tales of interest. This book was designed for vocabulary building and to aid in improvement of accent. The story she chose was a greatly abbreviated section from Alice in Wonderland, which clearly pleased her. When we discussed the tale, we were delighted to discover that we had both read this when we were young. We agreed this would be our next assignment. We soon discovered that More...

Well, if you really love this book, please do not read on! I really did not enjoy the book, and I'm a little surprised that it's considered a classic. The one thing I did enjoy was that there were many imaginative scenes - all of the different places that she went, like the tea party, the garden, etc. But, the characters were drawn very poorly - they were simply drawn, and most were just annoying (even Alice!). Most of the characters in the great "wonderland" were either cruel, mean or contrary More...

I'm probably the world's biggest Alice fan. I collect anything and everything Alice whether it's classic style or Disney, doesn't matter. I even named my first child Alice. I have read Wonderland and Looking Glass several times throughout my life and I enjoy them every time. I've read them to my kids too and they like them as well. It's just fun and nonsense. There's no need to deeply analyze the greater meaning deep within the story or to try to figure out the author's motives or anything. It's More...

LEWIS CARROLL: Obras completas. Prólogo de JORGE LUIS BORGES. (Buenos Aires, Corregidor, 1976)
Si no existieran, si no fueran parte de nuestra felicidad, diríamos More...

I'd never read anything of Lewis Carroll's growing up, even with how much I enjoyed the old animated Disney cartoon. As an adult going into a children's classic I'd never read before, I'm always a little wary with how much I'll enjoy it, but I'm happy to say I really did like the whimsical and often nonsensical adventures of Alice.
I knew I'd be in good company when, early on, Alice thought to herself, "and what is a use of a book without pictures and conversations?" Even as an adult, I still hav More...

This is the first time I read "Alice's Adventures in Wonderland". For decades when I considered reading the book, I decided it was too "curiouser and curiouser!"
In 2009 I received a beautiful new edition of the book, illustrated by Robert Ingpen. His magical illustrations add so much to the story. Also, as I read the book, I kept in mind that author Lewis Carroll was purposely writing dream-like scenarios.

This book was curious and curiouser and I just don't get it. So while I admit that the Alice in Wonderland movie doesn't really make a whole lot of sense either, it pales in comparison to this coked out misadventure. I've read that it is entirely unfounded speculation that the author was on drugs when he wrote this, although if I were him I would tell people I was on drugs rather than have them believe this was the work of my sober thought process. Half the time I didn't understand anything the More...

Sinopsis :
Kesan saya :

I have never much cared for Alice in Wonderland. Before today, I had never read the book, only seen parts of the Disney movie. But since Alice features in the book I am currently writing, I had to take the plunge. And I found that I still don’t care for Alice.
Before the Victorian era, stories for children were rather rare, and the ones that were published were, for the greater part, instructional and/or religious. But the mid-1800’s brought about a rise in imaginative stories, books written simp More...

This is lovely. I can't believe this was written in 1865! Almost 150 years ago!
Alice's Adventures In Wonderland consists of 12 fairly short chapters. It is a quick read(on my e-reader, each chapter was approx. 24 pages or less).
It is basically whatever you want to see it as. It could be looked at as an influential fantasy, or just the daydreams of a young girl. Either way, it is witty, imaginative and bizarre. (Also, you can tell the author is British, which I love. British wit is my favorite).

The world of fantasy!
If read with a bit of action, and a bit of imagination, this book can be a favourite book for children, and a exciting story that unfolds in ways that are unimaginable. It's a very exciting book of how alice walks through different phases in the book, and how the events shape the forthcoming events. The Rabbit hole and then onto the pool of tears and so on just makes the imagination of a child (and adult) wonder into a mysterical land! I'd recommend this book when doing the More...

I really loved this book! I can't believe that it has taken me this long to read it, but I was one of those weird children and this movie freaked me out so I never took the time to read this book until now. I want to watch the movie with Johnny Depp in it so.....what other choice did I have. I do have to say that this book gave me really weird dreams so you should use caution if you are reading right before bed. My husband woke me out one night because I kept yelling I want to be big. ok. this was a very interesting book. My dad read part of it on my new Lookbook (same thing as a Kindle pretty much) and he made a comment saying how the language was weird but I said that's because it's a classic. But I still enjoyed it. it was entertaining and a fun book to read. My only dissapointment was that Tweedle-Dee and Tweedle-Dum brothers weren't in it. I found that they were simply added to the disney cartoon movie. I was also amazed how disney managed to get the cartoon version almo More...

Alice in Wonderland was first published in 1865, a year that saw Charles Dickens survive the Staplehurst rail crash and the foundation of The Christian Mission (later to become the Salvation Army). At the other end of the scale, neither being saved nor salvaged, were the 400 rebels who were executed following an unsuccessful uprising against British rule in Morant Bay, Jamaica. Across the Atlantic Ocean the American Civil War was drawing to a close. Three days after the publication of Alice In W More...

After watching many an adaptation of Alice in Wonderland, even films not spoken in the English language, I vowed myself to not watch another until I'd not finished reading the [original] by Lewis Carrol.
