It's summer in Nightshade and the Giordano sisters jsut came back from their summer vacation in Italy withou their mother. While she stays back to work on a case the three sisters go back to their home to spend the rest of the summer. But while they were gone things had changed. The guys on the football team look like they are on steroids, the people of Nighshade are acting crazy for sugar and there are clones walking around the town. It's up to them to figure out who are the real res...more

This book felt too fast, too shallow, and too predictable. It could have been a good book with more development, depth, and mystery. I forced through it just to end the pain of reading it. I'm not giving it a 1 simply because I liked the feel of the book in my hands. Good shape and paper quality. Sad, but true.

Captivating third book in the "Dead Is" comic, paranormal, mystery series for teens

Daisy Giordano and her older sisters Rose and Poppy have just returned home from vacation in Italy the summer after Daisy's junior year. Their psychic mother has stayed behind to work on an important case and is unavailable to help solve a big mystery here in Nightshade, the quirky little town where the Giordanos live in Northern California. Doppelgängers of local residents are appearing all over the place, a fact...more

Mom Giordano had taken the Giordano women Daisy, Rose, Poppy and Grandma to Italy for a surprise vacation and the girls had returned with Grandma leaving mom in Italy on continuing business. The girls are staying by themselves in Nightshade with Grandma checking in once or twice a week. Poppy had recently broken up with her first serious boyfriend, a ghost, and had been moping around the graveyard instead of celebrating her recent graduation from Nightshade High. Rose had a research job at the l...more

I wasn’t really into mysteries. But all my friends told me to read this book. I finally decided I would read this book. When I read the book I was fascinated by the words the author used. It is a love-story, and a mystery all in one. I read the other books that “Marlene Perez” wrote and I didn’t like the other ones that she has written.
Death is so Last Year takes place in Nightshade California. The two main characters are “Daisy Giordino’s,” and her father M...more

I already have read the first three installments of Dead Is series and I have to admit that it is my newest guilty pleasure. Although the series focuses on vampires and werewolves, the romance is not too deep and desperate, and more importantly, there is no 'sparkling' vampires here, as in Twilight series.

Dead Is So Last Year is the third book in a series about a psychic family, mainly the Giordano sisters Rose, Poppy and Daisy. In this book, it seems that Doppelgangers or look-alikes of familia...more

What a fun series!
this is the 3rd installment, and was by far the best so far. Im eagerly awaitng the 4th book.

The Giordano sisters are on summer break and very busy. Rose is working for a scientist at the college, Poppy is working the snack bar stand at the beach, and Daisy landed a job at Slims Diner, working with Flo and an invisible boss.

But things start taking a turn for the worse. New werewolves are appearing in town, and Daisys dad has been spotted after being missing for 6 years. Peopl...more

A friend on mine likes this series so I thought I'd give them another try. I'm still not very enthused, although I can see why this sort of series appeals to teens.

The Giordano sisters live in Nightshade, a peculiar town full of paranormal people. The sisters themselves are psychic. Daisy's boyfriend, Ryan, is a werewolf, as is elder sister Rose's boyfriend, Nicholas. Middle sister, Poppy, is recovering from a love affair with a ghost. They have just returned from Italy where their mother, a psy...more

Like the others before it, it was an ok read. I guess it can be read by younger teens, there's no sexual content and the mystery is resolved quite easily.

The final ending had me a bit surprised although the book was very predictable, things happen too fast without much explanation.

Granted, I have read about a million teen-oriented, supernatural book series over the past few months, but none has enthralled me so thoroughly as Marlene Perez's 'Dead Is...' series. The storyline reeled me in during the first book and has not let go so far, although I will have to admit that So Last Year was just a smidge too fast-of-pace. The thing that I absolutely love about this series is that we don't have to deal with the "OMG, magic so isn't real, so how is all of this possible" shtick...more

The Gist

Daisy and her sisters finally have a break from school work. It’s summer and their mother’s in Italy, leaving them alone in the house. To get some money, they all get summer jobs: Rose as Dr.Franken (a scientist)’s assistant, Poppy at a beach snack shack, and at her favorite diner, Slim’s. The Nightshade starts seeing double. Literally. It’s as if clones of Nightshade’s residents roam the streets. Daisy, as usual, decides that she must get to the bottom of this. But when a Doppelganger o...more

Daisy and her older sister Rose and Poppy have just return form Italy by themselve, because their mom has something needs to work on. But there are too many things happen in Nightshade during the rest of the summer vacation. Daisy got a summer job in Slim(an invisible man)'s diner, her boyfriend Ryan is a werewolf, and many doppelgangers appear with troubles include Daisy' deppeldad.
I really enjoy to read Marlene Perez's books, her books make me don't want to stop reading. In the late part of De...more

I can't tell you how many people I have recommended this series to, especially those with 11-12 year old girls who are not into the Twilight series. Everyone seems to agree, no matter how old they are, think that this series is just wonderful. The characters of Daisy, Poppy and Rose provide good role models since they all have college plans, hold jobs and value family. The mystery of each book is enough to keep everyone turning the pages.
There are nice little word plays in the book like naming...more

It just didn't live up to my expectations!

Daisy and her supernatural town, Nightshade, are back and this time solving a very dangerous mystery. When Daisy and her friends start seeing doubles of the citizens of Nightshade, they just brush it off. But it turns out that there are doubles trying to cause trouble for all of Nightshade. And Daisy's schoolmates on the football team are acting even weirder. Will Daisy and her friends be able to solve this mystery without anyone getting hurt?

DEAD IS SO LAST YEAR by Marlene Perez is the third book in the DEAD series. I really enjoyed this book becauase it was mysterious, funny, and a quick read. The only thing I dodn't like about the book was that it was pretty obvious what the end result was but, otherwise it was very good!

It is summer in Nightshade and all three Giordano sisters have summer jobs. Daisy is working at Slim's Diner, Poppy is working at the pier, and Rose is working in the UC Nightshade labs with a strange scientist n...more

In this third and strangest installment in Marlene Perez's "Dead" series, Daisy Giordano (now 17) comes face to face with a man who looks exactly like her long-missing father, Rafe. Where has he been all these years, and why hasn't he tried to contact Daisy, her mother or her two sisters? The answer may have something to do with the sugar-craving doppelgangers* running around town (especially the area of Nightshade around the donut shop.) Budding foodie Daisy has a weakness for chocolate and caf...more

The Giodano sisters are back from a summer vacation in Italy, and things in Nightshade are as strange as ever when they get back.

The first thing Daisy wants to do when she gets home is see her boyfriend, Ryan. She has missed him and can't wait to get over to his house. Daisy is disappointed to find out that he is at football practice, but heads over to the school anyway. She is very surprised by what she sees. Ryan has really buffed up in the weeks...more

Newly returned from a glorious three week vacation in Italy, Daisy Giordano is ready to spend the rest of the summer relaxing and spending quality time with her boyfriend Ryan. Of course, that's so not going to happen because Daisy lives in Nightshade, California - land of the weird, home of the strange. Not long after Daisy returns home, Nightshade's residents, admittedly odd on their best days, start acting strangely way beyond their abnormal standard of normal. People seem to be showing up in...more

Dead is So Last Year is the third book in the Dead is series by Marlene Perez. Daisy, and her sisters Rose and Poppy, have spent the last 3 months in Italy on summer vacation and are now home. I feel the reason the author wrote this was to appeal to teens of today’s world. In today’s world, teens love mystical creature with a love twist. The author must have written it about mystical creatures to mainly appeal to teens. Many teens read a book about mystical creatures, love stories, and murder. The author put these three things to give teens the ultimate book to read. In the book the author states that “Ryan and Daisy are always together, that you can’t separate them from each other.”...more

Let me just say, that I am indeed part of the crowd that LOVED Twilight! That said, when I was at the bookstore one day, the DEAD IS… books were right next to the Twilight display. They looked short and had snazzy (yes, I actually said snazzy) titles. Therefore, I picked up all of them. After reading the first two chapters of the first book, I knew this was for young teenagers. In fact, I just happened to look at the back of the book and in small text above the ISBN it clearly states, 12+. I act...more

It's summer in Nightshade, California, and the Giordano sisters have returned from a family trip to Italy without their mother, who stayed behind to finish a case that Daisy suspects involves her missing father. It turns out that her mother is on the wrong trail, however, as Daisy's father has turned up in town. Or has he?

Meanwhile, the three sisters each have a summer job: Rose in a research lab, Poppy at the snack shack at the beach, and Daisy is working at Slim's, where she finally meets the...more

This book was really fun, I liked the idea of someone making clones/doppelgängers, and we finally meet Daisy, Poppy and Rose's Dad. Though is he really their dad, or is it another doppelgänger?

Daisy is really getting more awesome with every book, I like that she finally gets the hang of her powers, though she should really practice more.

Ryan.. again, I wish he would just talk to people, it would solve a lot of things, and a lot of stuff wouldn't have happened.

Wolfgang, I didn't like him from...more

Another light teen read in this series. There is enough suspense within the story to leave the ending unknown and make me want to finish the book. The series still lacks on character development, even in book 3, I wish I felt more or cared more about any of the characters, particularly Daisy, whom we follow throughout the series. There isn’t enough of an emotional connection to her as I would like.

The sugar-high doppelgangers of Nightshade are an interesting twist to the usual paranormal stories...more

Dead is so Last Year is the third novel on the Dead Is series.

At first the novel irritates me with all its recapping. I'm more than sure that by the third novel people must be familiar with the things going on.

This book actually made me dislike the series a little less. I still get mad whenever the heroine jumps from one place to another. The mysteries in this novel just as any other are easy to figure out, even before you're halfway through the novel. I hope the author continues with the Scou...more
