This book felt too fast, too shallow, and too predictable. It could have been a good book with more development, depth, and mystery. I forced through it just to end the pain of reading it. I'm not giving it a 1 simply because I liked the feel of the book in my hands. Good shape and paper quality. Sad, but true.

Mom Giordano had taken the Giordano women Daisy, Rose, Poppy and Grandma to Italy for a surprise vacation and the girls had returned with Grandma leaving mom in Italy on continuing business. The girls are staying by themselves in Nightshade with Grandma checking in once or twice a week. Poppy had recently broken up with her first serious boyfriend, a ghost, and had been moping around the graveyard instead of celebrating her recent graduation from Nightshade High. Rose had a research job at the l...more

Daisy and her sisters finally have a break from school work. It’s summer and their mother’s in Italy, leaving them alone in the house. To get some money, they all get summer jobs: Rose as Dr.Franken (a scientist)’s assistant, Poppy at a beach snack shack, and at her favorite diner, Slim’s. The Nightshade starts seeing double. Literally. It’s as if clones of Nightshade’s residents roam the streets. Daisy, as usual, decides that she must get to the bottom of this. But when a Doppelganger o...more

Let me just say, that I am indeed part of the crowd that LOVED Twilight! That said, when I was at the bookstore one day, the DEAD IS… books were right next to the Twilight display. They looked short and had snazzy (yes, I actually said snazzy) titles. Therefore, I picked up all of them. After reading the first two chapters of the first book, I knew this was for young teenagers. In fact, I just happened to look at the back of the book and in small text above the ISBN it clearly states, 12+. I act...more

I wasn’t really into mysteries. But all my friends told me to read this book. I finally decided I would read this book. When I read the book I was fascinated by the words the author used. It is a love-story, and a mystery all in one. I read the other books that “Marlene Perez” wrote and I didn’t like the other ones that she has written.

This is book three in the Dead is series which starts with the book Dead is the New Black. Once more, Daisy and her sisters are back using their psychic skills to solve the paranormal mysteries in the creepy little town of Nightshade. It's summer in Nightshade and Daisy and her sisters have gotten summer jobs. But strange things, stranger than usual that is, are happening. Doppelgangers of local residents are appearing all over town and the football team seems to be bulking up overnight. Trust D...more
I already have read the first three installments of Dead Is series and I have to admit that it is my newest guilty pleasure. Although the series focuses on vampires and werewolves, the romance is not too deep and desperate, and more importantly, there is no 'sparkling' vampires here, as in Twilight series.

Dead is so Last Year is the third novel on the Dead Is series.
At first the novel irritates me with all its recapping. I'm more than sure that by the third novel people must be familiar with the things going on.
This book actually made me dislike the series a little less. I still get mad whenever the heroine jumps from one place to another. The mysteries in this novel just as any other are easy to figure out, even before you're halfway through the novel. I hope the author continues with the Scou...more

Granted, I have read about a million teen-oriented, supernatural book series over the past few months, but none has enthralled me so thoroughly as Marlene Perez's 'Dead Is...' series. The storyline reeled me in during the first book and has not let go so far, although I will have to admit that So Last Year was just a smidge too fast-of-pace. The thing that I absolutely love about this series is that we don't have to deal with the "OMG, magic so isn't real, so how is all of this possible" shtick...more
What a fun series!
this is the 3rd installment, and was by far the best so far. Im eagerly awaitng the 4th book.
The Giordano sisters are on summer break and very busy. Rose is working for a scientist at the college, Poppy is working the snack bar stand at the beach, and Daisy landed a job at Slims Diner, working with Flo and an invisible boss.
But things start taking a turn for the worse. New werewolves are appearing in town, and Daisys dad has been spotted after being missing for 6 years. Peopl...more

I can't tell you how many people I have recommended this series to, especially those with 11-12 year old girls who are not into the Twilight series. Everyone seems to agree, no matter how old they are, think that this series is just wonderful. The characters of Daisy, Poppy and Rose provide good role models since they all have college plans, hold jobs and value family. The mystery of each book is enough to keep everyone turning the pages.

This book was pretty good. Personally, I don't think that this one was my favorite in the series because I just thought this one was the least interesting. I liked the idea of the Doppelgangers and how the doctor's name was Dr. Fraken. I mean, how much more obvious could you get!!! I liked how Daisy's dad's Doppelganger was nice to her in the end and how he said that he wished he could have been her real dad.

This one is my favorite, because the villains are slightly better. I mean, copy ctas that go around ruining other people's lives is pretty cool, right? And even though they have a totally a=bovious weakness (give them sugar and they go insane, or don't give them sugar for a long time and they melt away). So I liked the whole summer theme, cuz I like warm and fuzzy and awesomeness like thaet. And when Sean turned into a werewolf, I was like flippin some tables because Wolfgang is a JERK and I hat...more

I was so excited to get my hands on this book because I'd wolfed the other two down so eagerly. I'd have to go with three stars (liked it) vs. two (it was okay) out of loyalty to the series. That said, I wouldn't be being honest if I didn't say that I was a bit disappointed with this story and found it "light." Specifically, these are a particularly clever bunch of young women--esp. Daisy--and to think that it took them so long to "get" the various threads that were patently obvious to this read...more
In this thrilling conclusion the the Dead... trilogy, the psychic Giordano sisters have their family bonds put to the test when Doppelgangers invade nightshade. At first it seems like it might be all in Daisy's head - but then their father, who disappeared years before, is spotted in town. And Rose's boss, Dr. Franken, has been acting strangely. To make matters worse, Daisy's loyal boyfriend Ryan has been exhibiting some bizarre traits, and has gotten suddenly buff! Could it be his training regi...more
Book 3 of the series; now we're getting into the land of mystery! Very creative book, featuring more the elements of mystery and less the personal relationships. While Ryan and Daisy are still dating, their romance has taken a backseat to all the other strange goings-on in Nightshade.
Perez really stepped the inventiveness up a notch in this one. An invisible chef? Doppelgangers running amok, who subsist on copious sweets? A football team that's grown 10 sizes too big seemingly overnight?

DEAD IS SO LAST YEAR by Marlene Perez is the third book in the DEAD series. I really enjoyed this book becauase it was mysterious, funny, and a quick read. The only thing I dodn't like about the book was that it was pretty obvious what the end result was but, otherwise it was very good!

I feel the reason the author wrote this was to appeal to teens of today’s world. In today’s world, teens love mystical creature with a love twist. The author must have written it about mystical creatures to mainly appeal to teens. Many teens read a book about mystical creatures, love stories, and murder. The author put these three things to give teens the ultimate book to read. In the book the author states that “Ryan and Daisy are always together, that you can’t separate them from each other.”...more

It just didn't live up to my expectations!
Daisy and her supernatural town, Nightshade, are back and this time solving a very dangerous mystery. When Daisy and her friends start seeing doubles of the citizens of Nightshade, they just brush it off. But it turns out that there are doubles trying to cause trouble for all of Nightshade. And Daisy's schoolmates on the football team are acting even weirder. Will Daisy and her friends be able to solve this mystery without anyone getting hurt?

Had to watch out for those Dopplegangers, and it wasn't hard to pick out the problem makers in this story. I enjoyed the jukebox once again, it was still a clue giver just like in the last book, and poor Poppy is pining the lose of her last boyfriend - well, dead really is dead. Once again, it was easy to guess what was going on, but fun to watch Daisy seeing the clues and taking time to put them together. Once again, Ryan would have saved a lot of anger if he would just have opened his mouth an...more

Newly returned from a glorious three week vacation in Italy, Daisy Giordano is ready to spend the rest of the summer relaxing and spending quality time with her boyfriend Ryan. Of course, that's so not going to happen because Daisy lives in Nightshade, California - land of the weird, home of the strange. Not long after Daisy returns home, Nightshade's residents, admittedly odd on their best days, start acting strangely way beyond their abnormal standard of normal. People seem to be showing up in...more
