I have been wanting to read a Bella Andre book for a while now, but the price tag on most of her full lengths are more than I like. So when this one came up as a freebie, I snatched it up -- despite its nearly novella length of around 118 pages.
Right off the bat, the title reminded me of a disturbingly suggestive Brady Bunch song called "Candy (Sugar Shoppe)". Seriously, check out the lyrics sometime and see if you don't agree. Who knew the Bradys were that dirty? But, I'm guessing that's an is...more

I forced myself through 7 of 12 chapters, but just couldn't bring myself to finish. I wanted to like it, but it was just too ridiculous. Someone who can make a business out of consulting to candy shops? Falling in love within an hour of meeting someone? I know with romance stories, things often move at an accelerated pace, but this one pushed too hard against the boundaries of credibility.

I struggle to wrap my lil head around novellas. I guess I enjoy them, but rating/reviewing is a challenge. I enjoyed this story. No angst to speak of, just a momentary WTF scene from the hero, quickly resolved. If this was a full novel, I'd want some proof from him that he wouldn't take off every time he got his panties in a twist or I would consider this a HFN ending. For this novella, in Romancelandia, I'll accept his I love you as proof of thier HEA. Random thoughts: He's got a successful bus...more

DNF - Where do I begin with all that is wrong here. Hero is a Candy Company Consultant. Well no wonder he's going out of business next month. Did it occur to the consultant that maybe he should expand to Business Consultant instead of specializing in just candy companies? And he hasn't told his wonderful assistant who he thinks the world of that she'll be out of work starting next month.
Then we get to his sexual relationship with the heroine, and that's all it is. No romance, just bam they're ha...more

I loved this book. Easy read, read in one sitting, and I definately could not put this down.
This is a story of Callie a local candy store owner. She is living the dream of owning a candy store in her hometown. She is having some issues with not making any money and does not want to have to close, but can't afford to stay open. Candy has contacted the Candy King to help her out. This is a business that helps promote and get in the green and make the store work. Derek is the Candy King. Callie an...more

3.5*
It was a short and sweet novella. I liked the characters, Callie was such a fun lead, she was smart, spunky and she fought for what she wanted.
Tobey was the "tall, dark and dangerous" type, but, surprisingly he has a tender side and he showed a small vulnerable side. Since his finace left him at the altar 'cuz he wasn't the her ideal of a perfect man aka someone who worked in a boardroom and has a 60, or who the hell knows, hour week job. He was devastataed and decid...more

This book started off with some confusion for me. I got it as a free download and when I went to add it to my shelves I noticed the hero's name didn't match. I am guessing this is a rerelease with some tweaking done?
The book started out extremely promising. Callie is at a friends wedding, worrying that her candy shop is going to go under. An impulsive moment with the best man leads to a sexy encounter in the walk in cooler. Turns out the best man is the consultant Callie hired to help save her b...more

short read... the overall outline of the story could have been a lot more.. but it's just to short.
I liked how they met.. (it happens people gets crazy in weddings.... nothing out of the ordinary there! lol), and that by coincidences they meet again... that's twists of destiny..
although I am starting to feel that all this romance novels take love too lightly... sometimes it just takes a couple of "encounters of the 3rd kind" and the couples are deeply in love! hmmm in reality people are not so e...more

This was more of a short story rather than a book. A book would have had character building and reading into each of the characters emotions and thoughts. Instead it basically was a short story filled with sex that wasn't even described all that well for the mind to vision. I even recall the author explaining that Derek, the main male character had put a condom on twice. I was thinking to myself "wait... didn't he just do that...? I'm confused..." It wasn't a bad little story I just wish that th...more
This book was all right...but not really great either. It seemed to be focused more on the sex than on the actual plot, though what there was of the plot saved the story from being a one star read for me. Now, I'm not exactly a prude, and I understand the instant lust pull, but constantly jumping into bed every encounter was a bit excessive for me. The struggle with the candy store was highly believable and the love that the character had for it showed with only a few well placed scenes. I loved...more
Callie's candy store is in trouble. Derek's business is in trouble. Unbeknownst to Callie and Derek, Callie's accountant has hired Derek to help get her store to bring in more revenue. Callie and Derek meet each other at a wedding, in which Derek is the best man and Callie is the one who introduced the bride and the groom as well as the one who made the dessert for the wedding. Once their eyes lock, there is a certain connection and attraction between them. They must figure out a way to work tog...more
This is a very cute, very short novella. It's lots of fun and full of the smexy times, but the hero and heroine have sex so quickly and so many times in the first half of the novella that I wasn't really sure when they'd ever get to know each other to actually fall in love. The second half improves, but I really would have liked to have seen more interaction between them (one of the problems with reading a novella - the shorter length doesn't leave much room for that sort of thing).

Wow! After reading several of Bella Andre's books I must say that the romance scenes and dialogue is so consistent. and quite boring......."Please"............"Oh sweetheart. You are so beautiful." God, I wish she would get so new material.
"Candy Store" is a novella which means it was meant to be short; but the sex. and romance happened way to quickly making the plot unbelievable. The author would have been better served postponing the romance for greater impact. I really think this will be my l...more

I liked this little novella by Bella Andre. I found it very cute that Callie is a candy maker and Derek is someone who makes people want to eat more candy! Perfect for each other right…that being said why Derek would think someone who makes candy all day would want the person they love– and has the nick name of the Candy King –leave their dream job to become an account. I do wish there was a little bit more of a backstory on these 2 but hey it's a novella! But besides that one side point I thoug...more
I liked this for a short story. Callie and Toby absolutely great together and I loved the steaminess to their relationship… but a lot was kind of crammed in think I would have been much more pleased with more to the story, I mean I liked all the plot but would have liked more to read… maybe even Toby being jealous with a guy that was interested in Callie in the mix, yeah I like jealous guys thrown into the story… But now I am confused though… The summary to the story above says Derek?? The guy’s...more
It is a quick read, obviously, but I found it hard to read because there's no character development, I didn't believe the two characters as a truly loving couple, and the progression to hot-one-night stand to engagement was too fast and unrealistic (even for romance stories...). I give the couple another two months before their lust runs out and they realize they barely know each other. I got it for free on my iPad, so I don't feel like I've wasted anything- wouldn't pay for this, though...
A girl having sex with a virtual stranger was not my kind of romantic. No matter how sex-deprived she was at the time.
Although the sex scenes were pretty amazingly hot being written by Bella Andre and all, the story line just couldn't sit well with me. After a few steamy sexual sessions, the hero had actually fallen in love with the heroine. That was fast.. A shallow guy is recommended to never be a hero at all cause.
Won't expect much of a decent story from Bella Andre next time.

Callie's business is in trouble and she needs help to fix it little did she know that help would come from Derek the Candy King. Callie first meets Derek at a wedding and they soon find they are hot and heavy for one another. When Callie finds out that he is the one to fix her business her world is thrown upside down.
This was a cute romance to introduce me to Bella Andre her books sound incredible and I would put them up there with Fool's Gold series. I really enjoyed this one.

Sweet, sexy, and full of lots of candy (and sweet sexy times in walk-in refrigerators -- which seems like it would be cold but, hey, I guess they generate their own heat, don't they?). This is one of those feel good books that leaves you smiling at the end. Just like Derek left Callie smiling at the end. *blinks innocently* Good stuff.

What do you do when you realize that the one night stand from the wedding you attended the say before is with the man that you hired to save your business? Well if you are Callie, you try to hide and when that doesn't work you jump in with both feet, both personally and professionally. It was funny to see these two hook up among their love of candy. I did think things wrapped up a little too quickly, especially considering the fight, but overall it was fun to read.
This was such a cute little story, I LOVED it....I recommend you at least give it a try. Not sure why all the 1-2 stars are for I found it a great novella the ending was a little corny in the way it was written...but it didn't take away from the story at all.
Personally I think people are to harsh on their reviews...this is about the 5th book I have read where it gets low stars and is a great read....

22/2 - Sweet and hot short romance. Most of the story seemed unlikely, but it was a great novella to read on a cold snowy night at our ski condo. Perfect book to read in front of the fire with a cup of hot cocoa (if only I'd had some cocoa, although probably the cocoa wouldn't have been as good as Callie's special blend). It took me an hour or two to read in between watching Say Yes to the Dress.

Perhaps because it was a short story it was necessary to have the relationship evolve quickly. BUT ...... I couldn't grasp the romance & falling in love with characters that just met, have sex in a public place & immediately fall in love.
Yes, the sex scenes were steamy so that's about all this book accomplished.

This was a sweet, fun read. Instant chemistry between Callie and Derek. For a short book this was pretty good, but I was left wanting more depth to the story. This would have made a great full length novel.
And for some odd reason, it’s left me with a craving for chocolate.
As for the hero of the book:

Oops…wrong hero!
Derek:

I was really disappointed in this book. I read so much about this author, so I was not impressed. The characters weren't very developed. The couple have sex one week and the next week they are in love, despite the fact that they know very little about each other besides good sex. Thus I thought the story line was unrealistic. A quick read nonetheless.
