Too much like an insiders joke so it was hard to fully immerse myself. None of he characters were likeable so it was hard to really sympathise with them and frankly it was a relief when it ended.

The novel carries a one line review by Tibor Fischer, ‘Too accurate, too depressing.’ As Alessandro Gallenzi is the founder of a number of small imprints, translator, poet and writer, it has to be assumed that the ‘hero’ of the story, Charles Randall, is based on the author, or at least on his experiences in the trade. None of the characters were likable, even the main character. Story and narration are ok, but nothing else. Could have been better.

Zajímavá knížka z prostředí, o kterém se zase tolik nepíše.

The novel follows a wannabe author, a publisher who's been sacked and the publishing company who sacked him.
Caustic. Rather exaggerated of course. Rather entertaining.
Every character in Gallenzi's book is deliciously despicable. Can this really be what the publishing world is like?
