This is really bordering on the 3.5 to me and that's only because Bretton introduced Samuel and we got a glimpse of Aerynn.

Chloe and Luke have just defeated Isadora (literally just finished, this book starts where the other finished) and they realize that oops, the town is missing.

By missing I mean gone.

Ok, so here's the thing. Nothing really happened until toward the end of the book. Only "mysterious things" which did lead somewhere but could've been used so much better.

The Salem ghosts pop u...more

Havia coisas que me atrapalhav...more

Ainda estou tipo WTF? Cheguei a achar entediante.

This is a surreal series for adults! Volume III hits the ground running. Volume II is a cliff-hanger so I leaped into “Spun By Sorcery”. I advise savouring the former. Both concern changes of cosmic proportions. It’s helpful to take a break with a different novel. At first it lacked gusto. Other than grief over your cats and home vanishing; there was a cheesy part about rescuing wool. Stock is replaceable! Evacuating your cats, wallets, and a car are essential. It’s touching that ‘Janice’ risked...more

I’ve found a new series! Love it when that happens. The third in Barbara Bretton’s Sugar Maple series, SPUN BY SORCERY is a magical trip to Salem and back as half-sorceress Chloe Hobbs tries to figure out what happened to her beloved town of Sugar Maple, which seems to have disappeared right off the map. Accompanied by love-of-her-life Luke, friend Janice, and thousand-year-old cat Penny, Chloe reluctantly travels to Salem in an effort to find what magic sent her town away and what magic can bri...more

Okay...Sugar Maple desapareceu.
Sim...pufff...foi-se.
Ficaram apenas Chloe e Luke.

O livro começa relativamente bem, percebi os pr...more

This is the third book in this series and I think it's my last one to read. I liked the story line and the people in it. My problem with this book is it's like a maze. Nothing really flows along for me. Chloe comes back from fighting a battle, (from the last book), to finding her whole town gone. It's just not there anymore. Her one friend has made it out with Chloe's car and her cat and her yarn. Chloe, her boyfriend, who is human, and Chloe's friend all decide to go to Salem, where their ances...more

I thought the drive to Salem took a few too many chapters. The storyline was great just thought some of the driving chapters could have been shortened to make room for more backround. But overall a much better book than the second one, in my opinion.

I still like the series, but I guess it's starting to be a bit more of the same for me, that's why I rated it lower than the first two volumes; still it IS an enjoyable read, and I'm looking forward to seeing how it all resolves in volume 4

The very vivid fight to recover Sugar Maple and show herself worthy of her Ancesters. Chloe rediscovers her power side by side with Luke. And by the very end of the story we get a glimpse of the future...

Paranormal Romance- Nov. 2nd, 2010
3 1/2 stars

Spun by Sorcery is a light-hearted mystery with magical elements in it.
Chloe Hobbs is half-human and half-sorcerer. Luke McKenzie is completely human, the local law, and her lover. They have won the battle against the evil Isadora for the township of Sugar Maple. To the victor go the spoils of a safe home. Except their home Sugar Maple has vanished. They can’t enter the town’s perimeter without running into a barrier....more

This is the third book in the Sugar Maple series but it wasn't a story that served as a random placeholder for the last book.

The previous book ends with Chloe successfully fighting off and banishing her evil Fae foe, Isadore but at what appears to be the cost of losing her beloved town of Sugar Maple. This book focuses on Chloe, Luke and Janice traveling to Salem, MA, to find out how to draw Sugar Maple back into this dimension. In the process Chloe meets Samuel, a 300 year old man who was the p...more

I've grown to love Sugar Maple. The people in the town are so quirky and funny. They make the story, and are the reason that I fell in love with this series. So, when Sugar Maple disappeared, my heart sank. It was at this point, that I had a difficult time getting through the book in a reasonable amount of time.

Was it badly written? Absolutely not. The author is a wonderful writer. She paints a beautiful picture of everything, and keeps you engaged in what you're reading. My problem: The main c...more

Esta m...more

Synopsis from the back cover:

I don’t know about you but I’m always losing things—keys and sunglasses and stitch markers for my sweater-in-progress. But an entire town? Even I had never done that before! Just when I was about to make a forever home with my 100% human soul mate, Luke MacKenzie, my Fae enemy Isadora struck…
Even the Book of Spells, my lifeline to the world of magick, has gone MIA, along with my friends and my cottage and my knit shop. But then my friend Janice roars up in my ancie...more

O segundo livro perdeu muitas destas...more

Spun by Sorcery by Barbara Bretton

Chloe - Sugar Maple, Vermont (Main Character) This book is a combination of suspense and oppressed creatures laced with magick.

From Fresh Fiction: "Knitting Magic and a bit of Mayheim make for a cozy mystery."

From front of book: "If only there was a lost and found for an entire town..."

People you love are missing. Places you knew disappeared without any kind of warning. What would you do if this happened to you? The knitting shop you built from ground up, your e...more

Of the trio in the series I have read, so far this one was the most emotion tugging (or perhaps it's because I'm still up at 1am finishing it). I am not a knitter - my gauge is terrible and I'm terribly slow with stitches but as a cross stitcher (travel stitcher too) I can grasp the novelty of busy craft hands.
I had hoped that during the borrowed power up time Luke was granted that the babe would have been conceived then (thus making it more then just 1/4 powered and 3/4 humanoid) alas it was n...more

This is my favorite book of the series so far. We have the adventure of the town of Sugar Maple, Vermont having disappeared and requiring Chloe to figure out how to 'find' it again. Being half human and half sorceress, Chloe is still in infancy as to her growing powers.

Luke, Chloe's human love and her best friend, Witch Janice must join their strengths for the battle of their lives. Janice has the most to loose, in that her husband and children are still in the lost town.

This book told us a lot...more

Spun by Sorcery was a great book. It wasn't quit as good as I hoped it would be. There was not a lot of action, but the adventure was awesome. Barbara is very creative and created a magical land and was able to keep you looking for more.

This book ended with room for a fourth book, and I am excited to read it and see what happens with the characters.

This third installment of the Sugar Maple series fell a little flat for me. It was okay and I was glad to find out how the disappearance of the town where part two ended was resolved, but I don't think I will continue on with this series.

Chloe and Luke go on a mission to figure out what happened to the town when it just disappears after the battle with Isadora. That mission leads them to Salem, where the creation of Sugar Maple happened. I don't want to do spoilers so I can't say much more, but...more

The third installment in the Sugar Maple chronicles does not fail to please. Sugar Maple disappears! and forces Chloe, Luke, Janice & Penelope to Salem to look for answers. We learn a lot about the history of the people of Sugar Maple, why they left Salem & who stayed behind. Chloe also learns more about her family and about herself.

Although this could have easily been the last in the series, Bretton leaves us with a teaser that can not be the end :)

Overall, I enjoyed this installment....more

This is the third and final book in the Sugar Maple series. I really enjoyed reading the first book. The second book, took me a while to read, it did not really capture my interest. I read this book because A. my friend Grace was nice enough to loan it to me and B. I just needed some closure. I assumed , as in most literature of this type, that Sugar Maple would be saved by Chloe, but I didn't necessarily know how. I assumed Chloe would end up with Luke - for at least a while.

I liked the previous books in the series, but this one had "too much magick" for me, I guess. I would have preferred to see more development of the character relationships, and fewer blow-by-blow descriptions of magickal encounters, although I did have to laugh at the spinning wheel attack. Really good knitting and spinning content, both within the story and with the patterns and anecdotes at the end of the book. Lots of name dropping for yarn brands, spinning wheels, etc.

This was my first Nook...more
