I just finished the first book, The Stranger She Married, and immediately had to pick up this one. This was actually the first book I read by Donna Hatch and became an instant fan.

I really love this one, it was fun and adventurous. I really liked Elise and Jared. Elise is witty, brave and very ladylike. Jared brings out a different side in her and she does the same for him. He’s kind of a rake without really being a rake, which I liked. I really liked that he had a lot of respect for Elise and
Sigh. I haven't been this addicted to an author's writing since Marcia McClure. I've been sneaking downstairs after everyone's asleep and reading into the wee hours because I CANNOT STOP READING Donna Hatch. Even better? THIS ONE HAS PIRATES. I read Daphne Du Maurier's Frenchman's Creek as a teen and have been hooked on pirate stories ever since. And a clean Regency romance with steamy kisses AND pirates? Donna, it's like you read my mind.

More, Donna, please? How about Grant's and Christian's st

I had enjoyed Donna Hatch's debut historical romance, The Stranger She Married, so when she recently sent me a copy of the galley proofs for her brand new book, The Guise of a Gentleman, I was really looking forward to reading it. Now that I've finished it, I have to say that I liked it even more than the first book. In fact, I loved it. The Guise of a Gentleman sweeps the reader along in an almost epic journey that begins in the proper, quiet drawing rooms of country man

Wow. This book was fun to read. It was full of romance, adventure and suspense. Towards the end, I cried for both Jared and Elise, even though I knew the story would eventually end well. What a sappy person I am - I could not believe I cried so much, but I did.

Oh those Amesbury brothers!! I thought Cole was HOT in the first book in the series, "The Stranger She Married", but Jared in "The Guise of a Gentleman" was so HOT, he had my heart fluttering madly. He was so passionate and
Wow, Hatch surpassed my expectations in this one! And she has found a new fan in me! If you are looking for a clean read, regency romance with shades of humor, action and suspense then look no further! This is a page turner, that will touch you on several different levels. The romance was sweet but thrilling, the characters very engaging, there was humor and even a time that brought me to tears. I love it when a book can take me by surprise! I cannot wait for Book 3, and I am hoping there is a B ...more
I came across Donna Hatch and her fabulous writing skills while browsing for new books on Goodreads. Once again, this website has done me proud.

I was immediately hooked like a fish when I read the synopsis of this book solely because I love pirates! There is something magical about the life of a pirate. Not that I approve of the raiding, pillaging, blundering, drinking, and wasting precious gold on sorted wenches but the freedom that comes with living on the open sea and being able to go whereve
I really enjoyed this book. It is so fun to be able to read a book that has adventure and romance, but stays clean! I really like how the author stays true to the time period she's set this series in. The most delightsome part to me, was as I was reading this book, the story was coming to the point where most romance novels would conclude, (i.e. the girls finds out his secret, but loves him so much that she forgives all and they blissfully live happily ever after!) there was still a good chunck ...more
Donna Hatch is a new author for me. I knew “The Guise of a Gentleman” is #2 in a series, but frankly it sounded more interesting to me than #1, and the rave reviews were impressive.

Well I absolutely enjoyed this wild ride through Regency England with the sweetly innocent widow, Elise Berkley, and her son Colin, becoming entangled with the secret world of pirates. It was enthralling, to the point that I got very involved with them and the mysterious Jared Amesbury/Black Jack. It captured my atten
I love this author!! This book was so good. I love a sweet romance and I love it when an author realizes that in order for me to buy into a love story the characters have to spend more than 5 seconds together. I love how much interaction there was between the two main characters. All I know is I would love to meet up with Jared, Cole and the rest of his hot brothers one day. I WISH WISH WISH that she will continue this series, with the next Brother. I can't wait to read about Christian!!
Katie Watkins one was about one brother, book 2 is about another brother. There are two more brothers, so I'm hoping there are two more books.

This story is about Jared, who is/was a pirate. He rents a house for the summer and meets Elise, a widow who swears to remain single.

The romance is terrific, sweet, and clean, and the adventure is great fun--I was left hanging until almost the very end.

I really hope there are two more books in the Rogue Hearts series....
If there were 6 stars I would rate this book a 6! I absolutely loved it. Donna you are an amazing author! Thank you for a great clean wonderful romance! You do know that both Christian and Grant need their stories told, right? Can't wait to read more of your books. Thank you, thank you!! :-)
A Pirate pretending to be a gentleman, meets a woman who makes him want to find his true identity. Very clean, and fun. I liked the characters, and enjoy the writing style.
I enjoyed this even more than the first. I'd have to say, this was the perfect pirate romance!
I have really enjoyed this author so far and apparently I have a thing for pirates. ;)
This is the second book in Hatch’s Rogue Hearts series, which concerns itself with, thus far, the Amesbury brothers, Cole, Jared, Christian and Grant. In this installment we get to know Jared Amesbury and his secret, alter ego, Black Jack. Black Jack is a notorious pirate. Jared Amesbury is the second son of the Earl of Tarrington. He leads a double life. He is actually a secret agent for the British government for a service akin to our Secret Service agents . Since the days of the wars against ...more

I hate to bring down the ratings on this book because I really did enjoy it, but it was a little slow for me after the first chapter (and slow and long don't go together well). I had a hard time with how strict Elise was about the rules of society and what was and wasn't okay to do(even though she only follows the rules she likes anyway- riding off alone, etc...). I think that it would have given me more understanding into Elise's character if more was told about her husband and even better, if ...more
This is Book 2 in Donna Hatch's Rogue Hearts series and I am so bummed that no other books have been published! I'm dying to hear more about the other brothers!!!! It's not often I find a book about pirates that holds my attention but this one certainly did. Though I have to admit I liked the first book in this series better than this one.

The editing could use a little work, and the story didn't really capture my attention. I did finish it, and it was an enjoyable enough read. I just don't need to read it again.

The relationships in the story were enjoyable. I loved both the main characters. However, the story kind of started dragging towards the end. Plus there were... side issues (?) that didn't get resolved, only touched on; enough to make me wonder "What is that all about?". Perhaps she deals with those in other books. Not

Pirate vs Gentleman… This was a great historical read. It has clean romance, mystery, and deceit. The characters were all described in a way that made you think you knew them all. It was like real life events going on. I would recommend this book to everyone. You will enjoy reading it. I would like to read more about Grant!! He seems intriguing. Although, that seems true with the entire Amesbury family. ...more

This is another beautiful tale of the regency era, where pirates and gentlemen were many times the same people. This book will have you reliving an era long past, but still very much alive in the hearts of all romance readers. It is an awesomely crafted tale full of good writing and regency research.
Elise is a young widow who has vowed to never marry again. Her life changes completely when another widow, her best friend, announces that she will get married again. Betrayed, she doesn’t want to g
I like romance in a novel but I think actual romance novels, such as this one, are just too much for me. It's cheesy, it's trashy, it overuses the word supple. But it's a good trashy along the lines of The Bachelor, you have to see it to the end even though it makes you feel slightly brain dead. I do like the Amsberry brothers but I'm not sure if I want to finish the series.
This book was fantastic! I think I liked it even better than the first one. Jared is a wonderful and full character. Elise is sweet and brave and everything you could want in a heroine. The action and adventure pull you along, keeping you enthralled through every twist and turn. The side characters are full and fun, making the world of piracy come to life. Jared and Elise's love is realistic, sweet and powerful. I got so caught up in the story that my heart pounded, tears filled my eyes and I ju ...more
I have to admit, I love a Pirate in disguise. This Pirate had me intrigued from page one, his ability to transfer between pirate, gentleman, and a seductive man made a fantastic leading man. The adventures in the story never ceased, and the roller coaster of a love story kept me anxious. That being said, for some reason it felt slow sometimes. However it was a great fluffy read.
This book was good but i think it has a really slow start for me. I didn't really have a conection to the characters until really like 3/4 of the way through the book. I think I might have read this one too close to The Stranger She Married because i was expecting to like this one just as much and I was a little disapointed. It was harder for me to like the male lead... there was something missing from him in the beginning. It was a quick read and I hope the author will write a book about anothe ...more
I like this romance series because it's clean and the characters are easy to cheer for. This is the second book in the series and it all involves the same family from the first book-and I like getting to know them all.
I didn't love this book as much as I loved "The Stranger she Married" but it was still a very likable story. I almost gave it 4 stars because I kept judging it off of the first book in the series. The book was likable but I think some things could have been fixed to make it even more likable. One example is that the book became even better once she was abducted by pirates. That whole part and then her on board the ship with Black Jack was superb but needed to be more of the story.

Okay, this was a total guilty pleasure read. Just a fun, light, clean historical romance. I'm embarrassed to say I even got so hooked that I stayed up until 3:00 in the morning to finish it.

Sweet clean romance with adventure and great characters. Not the overly simple recency romance I've been reading lately. This book showed a bit of the darker side with very young men who have gone to war or equally young men who live the dangerous life of a pirate or secret agent. The legal system was harsh with public hangings and horrible prisons. I loved both the main characters Jared and Elise. Hatch will hopefully write Grant's story... and I'd love to read Christian's too!

I am so glad I purchased this book! Loved it!! After reading Rogue Hearts #1, The Stranger She Married, I was so excited to read book #2 A Guise of a Gentleman. The story was captivating and had agreat pace to it. This story had lot of adventure with twists and turns. There is a lot of chemistry between Jared and Elise, and lots of kissing, but a really sweet romance. This book is super clean just kissing!! I have grown to love the Amesbury family! I will be reading this one again! I look forwar ...more
