This was my first Annabel Joseph novel and I thought it was fantastic! I thought the way their relationship began was most unique--great ramp up to a wonderful story. I loved the relationship that developed between Nell and Jeremy. I loved the stumbles they experienced along the way--as many couples experience, theirs just wasn't the traditional kind of stumbles.

I will definitely be reading more by this author. I just hope they are as intriguing and hot!

I'm still somewhat conflicted about Comfort Object, and my 3 star rating reflects that.

On one hand, I really enjoyed the quality of the writing, the character development, and the tight pacing. I was really impressed with Nell's strength and character. There were a couple of times when I thought she should leave Jeremy, but Nell stuck to her guns.

On the other hand, I disliked Jeremy and his methods to get what he wanted; I think the businesslike relationship was probab More...

One of my favorite erotic books of the year- This book took me by storm!

If you look for a theme in my reviews, you will recognize I am all about well developed, interesting characters and Comfort Object has that in spades. Jeremy is dark and jaded by his Hollywood experiences. He is used to buying himself some modicum of happiness, all the while steeling his heart for the inevitable disappointment that invariably rules his so called ‘picture perfect life’. An innate Dominant, he use More...

I'm not sure how to rate this one so I'm sticking with 2 for now. If this was just intended to be erotica, it would be 5 stars. It was hot and emotional, with complicated characters. But it's not erotica. It's labeled as erotic romance with a happily ever after and that's where my problem came in. Some of Jeremy's actions were not that of a responsible dom, they were that of a spoiled bully who wanted to have his way. The way Nell was treated on multiple occasions was borderline abusive, at best More...

This was another one of those books that made me uncomfortable while I was reading. And yet I couldn't stop myself from reading on.

I have to say that I just don't get why someone who doesn't enjoy pain would endure it on a regular basis and in this story the heroine really doesn't enjoy the pain the hero keeps dishing out.

I wish I could understand but I don't. However I have come to accept that this pops up regularly enough to suggest that this is something that make sens More...

Hmmmm...what to say? What to say....

On the one hand I have to say that this book is very well written, sometime wry, sometimes brutal, but always interesting and engaging. It speaks a lot for this author's writing ability to be able to draw me in and keep me reading on a subject that I am not 100% comfortable with. I just can never read about the submissive half of a D/s relationship without wanting to take them into a corner and lecture them about self-empowerment and not letting oth More...

So, this book got a ton of positive responses which drew me in to give it a try. I was excited to begin this read and I will admit that in the beginning was a bit of a roller coaster. Early on I was intrigued, then a little out of sorts with the Kyle character and his purpose, but then when Jeremy arrives on the scene was captured into this premise once again.

Unfortunately, it didn't do much for me after that.

It was hard thinking of the right words for this review. This book was written well and full of emotions and character development. That is why I gave it 4 stars

I like it on a professional level but it did not sit well with me on a personal level. I'm not into humiliation or complete selfishness of a hero. An arrogant alpha hero or dom is one thing, but Jeremy really angered me throughout the book. He said truly hurtful things to Nell that would detroy any normal person's emotional s More...

Jae’s Dark Divas Review of this title:

I’ve had a really difficult time trying to figure out what I want to say in this review. You can see from the rating that I thought this book was excellent. Every Annabel Joseph’s book I have read has been so well-written and engaging.

The character development is outstanding. I can see some readers would think Nell is a weak heroine with regard to some of her choices, but they aren’t really looking at her. They are looking at themselves More...

Where to start.... I just finished this one, and I feel emotionally wrung out. It's different and non-pc and I'm not sure how to untangle what I'm feeling about it.

I'll start with pin-pointing the quibbles-- I've never cared for the derogatory name calling you come across in some BDSM books and this one has a fair amount of that. The story is told in alternating 1st POV of the hero/heroine. I loved being in the hero's head, yet, he, she, and just about all the other characters sound More...

It's hard for me to review a book like this. On one hand, the material is most decidely out of my personal comfort zone. I definitely can relate to enjoying a D/s theme in a book and some light B and menage -- I can certainly take and enjoy a little kink. :) However, I can't really relate to the pain aspects that occured in this book, so I really don't feel anything when I read those types of scenes.

Despite the pain bits, I thought the book was interesting with its portrayal More...

Be prepared for extreme arousal!!! As far as sex scenes go, this book seems to cover them all with taste!!! I love the way the author actually spells out the entire sex scenes with great detail! You can actually feel the anticipation, fear, arousal & so much more!!! I know some people can't handle reading with the characters using the word or whore, but call me dirty, I didn't mind it one bit as long as it stays in the bedroom!!! I'm also one for dirty talk during sex & I got plenty of that from More...

“A Roller Coaster of a Non-Traditional Love Story”

The Plot: This is the story of Nell, a Harvard-educated professional submissive. Nell’s down on her luck, and when she finds herself blacklisted in the BDSM community and unable to find a job due to the manipulative ploys of sadistic celebrity, Jeremy Gray, she finds that she has nowhere to turn but to his unusual job offer to be his “comfort object” (i.e., sexual slave).

As a successful actor, Jeremy doesn’t have the time More...

Rating: 4.5/5

Nell is a bright, attractive woman, briefly a Harvard student, who finds herself working as a professional submissive at Eden Fetish Club in Los Angeles. In reality, she has been in very few actual D/s relationships and questions whether she is truly submissive. Jeremy, a very famous actor, is the exact opposite; he's a Dominant that knows exactly what he wants and how to get it. Because of his fame, he has to be careful not to expose his kinky nature to the public, s More...

I had to finish this book the same night I started it. And no, that's not a good thing.

There was so much right with this story that it made what was wrong all the worse. The concept was interesting, the writing was good, the characters were more fully formed than in most erotica, and the sex was crazy hot.

The problem lay with the "hero"; a classification which I am loathe to use in this case. Jeremy was such an abusive, emotionally damaged, man child so as t More...

I tried this cuz someone thought that people who liked Fifty Shades of Grey would like this but I didn't end up liking it. It wasnt the kinkiness that turned me off, it was the degree to which the guy wanted/did cause the girl pain. Both in and out of the bedroom. He was a true sadist. And I'm not judging that lifestyle, it's just not something I can appreciate in books. I mean, he really did fall in love with her and all, but he still beat her a$$ soundly too much for my comfort level.... And I More...

a bdSm novel w/ heavy emphasis on the S. I have to say where is the love? All the other aspects of the book - Jeremy came across as a bully, but Nell was willing to agree to his demands. In the beginning because of money and then later "love". I'm sorry I didn't see where there could be any love. Jeremy and Nell never shared much w/ each other. I didn't know too much more about either of them than if I had passed them on the street. Okay slight exaggeration, but still. The writ More...

I wanted to give this book a higher rating, but Jeremy made this book a difficult read for me. I didn't mind his physical cruelty because that is part and parcel of his sexual makeup. What I couldn't stand was how psychologically and emotionally cruel he was to Nell. He was like the rollercoaster from hell, and she stayed on it because she loved him. And about Nell...at times, she seemed so much more like a doormat than a submissive, and the two are not synonymous. I guess I was just a little b More...

3.5. This was tough to review. The writing was excellent, and the author takes you on a roller coaster where you can't put down the book. One negative on the writing was that being first person from bothe characters (back and forth), I often got confused as to who was speaking.

Jeremy was a dick, plain & simple. In other BDSM books I have read, the Dom is so focused on his sub, and comforting her after, etc. but this guy was just an all around ass. Though his inner dialogue saved him a More...

I was originally going to give this story 2 stars because I didn't really like the story or the characters. But, upon mulling it over, decided that it was because the author is an excellent writer and storyteller that I had the reaction I did. The story was well written. I found the cruel, screwed up, sadistic, manipulative, dishonest characteristics of Jeremy to be really disturbing. I also thought the 'relationship' that was developing was really dysfunctional and co-dependent so it didn't More...

caveat: i'm not into the dom/sub lifestyle. don't get it. don't understand it, and doesn't really appeal to me.

and this book is ALL about the lifestyle. not just about sexual encounters with whips, etc. but the whole gig - the actual lifestyle.

all that said, this was pretty palatable even to this vanilla reader. definitely learned some stuff about the lifestyle - i.e. really never understood how far reaching the dom/sub relationship is outside of the actual sex. but never, ev More...

I really loved this book for many reasons. I loved the characters, flaws and all. I loved the intensity of the scenes, and I loved how the hero ultimately came to terms with his feelings.

I am glad that I read this book when I did. I have come a long way in reading BDSM reading. I think that if I had of read this in the beginning of my experiences I would have felt it too intense. But as I have become more aware of the genre, I really saw the dynamic between Nell and Jeremy for what More...

I loved this one. If you haven't read Annabel Joseph before, you should know that she writes very intense BDSM. But if you have, then you should know this was my favorite one so far. I loved the heroine and really identified with her, despite the fact that most of what she experienced was outside my ken. And I loved the hero, who was, for me, the perfect blend of big, scary Dom and sweet, lovable hero. I definitely fell in love with him through the eyes of the heroine, and laughed along the way, More...

Fantastic! For whatever reason I have been on an erotica binge lately and I started reading BDSM books and boy are they interesting! Talk about expanding horizons - they are positively addictive. I must admit though that I prefer the D/s to the more pain or humiliation oriented books. It's probably my romance reading history with all the alpha type males..*sigh* so I really need a HEA in order for me to really enjoy it.

If I had known before starting this book that there would be very little romance, I would have likely decided not to read it. But then I'd have missed a very good story.

Jeremy Gray is a film actor constantly hounded by the press, and it is his custom to keep a fake girlfriend to help him deal with the stress of his life. They never last long, however, and he is in search of another "comfort object" when his assistant finds Nell for him.

Using trickery and deceit, More...

My dear friend Alma hated Jeremy Grey, before she fell in love with him. I didn't fall in love with him. He's a stalking psycho. What he did to Nell was totally reprehensible. Yet another anti-hero Ms. Joseph creates whom we are supposed to love and forgive his numerous flaws. I lost count of how many f-ed up things he did to Nell. I think it would have been justice for Nell to die due to his selfish and stupid actions.

Well, this story was very interesting. This author has a very different voice than what I'm used to. The story has a familiar ring to it, as its a Dominant male looking for a Submissive female to be his significant other. Going in to it as a business transaction and then of course, unexpectedly falling in love.

However, I had a really difficult time throughout many parts of the book. Jeremy's character was a complex one. After reading further along and understanding why he's so i More...
