Oh, wow - this book is wonderful. Julie's struggles to find peace and joy in her own life translate very well, and therefore speak to and for, the particular obstacles in all of our lives. Her unabashed sharing is such a gift to us all, and ultimately readable - her book had me cheering for Julie all along her path, and her voice resonated so well with my own inner voice past and present. It has renewed my faith in the journey, both the good parts and the rough spots, as necessary and ...more

Shelves: memoir
When I finished Julie's book my first thought was: now this is how a memoir should be written. From the first to last page it's well paced, expressive and shows such honesty and self awareness that the writing in itself is an inspiration. Her heart and attitude inspire me more.

Because of Julie the next book I've begun to read is a Course in Miracles. (Only a thousand or so more pages to go.) ( :

Julie is easy to love, and so is this book.

Hugs, your fan, Jenny.

If ever I feel I am having a bad day, I will turn to Julie Genovese for inspiration and hope. Julie was born with a rare form of dwarfism and degenerative arthritis. In her memoir, Nothing Short of Joy, she takes us on her journey from childhood--with many visits to the Center for Birth Defects where she is displayed on the exam table and studied by specialists—through her young adult life where she faces multiple surgeries and setbacks. The humiliation and heartache are palpable but her will to ...more

I had the pleasure of meeting Julie so reading her memoir, which I received as a giveaway from Kathy Pooler's Memoir Writer's Journey, made it extra special. Born a dwarf with degenerative arthritis and undergoing two hip and two knee replacements, followed years later by two brain surgeries, the story is one of triumph over adversity. But as the author makes clear, this journey didn't happen overnight. It was a long, circuitous and agonizing path to reach that place she calls "nothing short of ...more

Wayne Dyer says “Nothing Short of Joy is a masterpiece that will take you out of your comfort zone and into a magical world of joy. I love this book. I love this woman. Read it and reap."

I had no idea just how much this book pertained to everyone till I read it. It is not a simple memoir. It is a revelation about all of us. If you've ever felt different, picked on, lost or just having a hard time figuring out who you are, you owe it to yourself to read this book. I would strongly recommend thi
