I love Shop Girl Diaries by Emily Benet.

She tells of her journey towards becoming a published author. Most of the book is set in the family shop. Some of the scenes and interactions with the customers are priceless. As someone who is about to publish a book and who has worked in a shop for many years, I can feel her pain. But it's hilarious.

I also really like the size and format of the book. It's easy to pick up and put down if you don't have much time.

I definitely recommend this book and from m

This is a really fun book about Emily's year long journey of getting her book published while working in her family-owned lighting fixtures' retail shop that's forever closing down. It is sweet, happy and truly enjoyable. In a nutshell a well-written exploration of contemporary life in London through the eyes of a 25 year old aspiring writer. Can't seem to find the blog she's writing about...Did it ever exist?

This book was okay; an easy read. Maybe my expectations were a little high as the tagline compares it to Bridget Jones which had me laughing my socks off, which sadly Shop Girl Diaries didn't. The first thing I did on finishing it though was get online to look for Emily's blog, I guess that's a good thing?

Didn't really have a very exciting storyline. Did manage to read it until the end. Being written in diary form made it quicker and easier to get through!

“Oh how lovely to hear the birds!’ an elderly friend recently exclaimed. I smiled, ‘Yes, isn’t it?’ Actually it reminded me of living in my ex’s flat; those early mornings being woken up by the incessant chirping of baby birds and myself at the window with an air rifle. Good times. Because that’s the other thing about working alone for long periods of time, you begin to get nostalgic about all the rubbish.” 0 likes
