10 Life Changing Lessons To Learn from Scott Pilgirm Series.

1. I'm pretty sure Ramona Flowers is related to Nymphadora Tonks.
2. Inventors needs to invent Subspace Highways. SOON.
3. Never ever date a chick with 7 evil ex-boyfriends.
4. But if she's so damn hot, just prepare your katana.
3. Lightsabers are out. Power of Love and Power of Understanding are in.
6. Sparkling bodies are lame. Glowing heads are epic.

1.5 stars. In the previous volumes of Bryan Lee O'Malley's Scott Pilgrim epic, there had been a buildup to a metaphysical / existential conclusion. Characters were floating in and out of a reality that was peppered with video game physics and razor-sharp wit, and it seemed natural that the final volume would be a collision of parallel worlds.

The finale, however, seems to play into a chaos-driven philosophy in explaining its logic. What seems to be intended as a post-modern foray into More...

I'm in a meeting and I'm bored so I thought you might like to know that I read this book and I thought it was loads of fun! Why 4 stars and not 5? Because like I said "I'm in a meeting" and meetings make me grumpy..

Now that I've read all six volumes in the Scott Pilgrim series, I find it obvious how someone would want to make a movie out of these books, and downright amazed that the movie they made managed to omit so much and still not suck. As I read each book, it became more and more clear that the movie deliberately left some pertinent things out, and even took creative liberties with certain characters and events. No book hammered that point home like the last book, Scott Pilgrim's Finest Hour.

Very enjoyable overall although I was never very interested in the plot (not after evil boyfriend number 3 or 4). Even in volume 6(?) where Scott has to accept all the things that he'd done wrong it felt less consequential than it should of done. And apart from that it mostly felt a bit well repetitive.

What I did really like, though, was the incorporation of gaming tropes (Level Up, New T-shirt Accessed) were genuinely innovative and felt entirely natural. Some of the meta-fiction thro More...

Scott Pilgrim, Vol. 6: Scott Pilgrim's Finest Hour / 9781934964385

This is the final volume of the Scott Pilgrim series, so if you've been following the series up until now, you pretty much HAVE to read it. The good news is that it's incredibly thrilling and well-drawn and the plot is nicely summed-up; the bad news is that I kind of wish there was MORE of it.

After Ramona disappeared into the ether in "Scott Pilgrim vs. The Universe", Scott has been moping around More...

Posted on my book blog.

The sixth and final installment of the Scott Pilgrim story feels quite a bit different from the rest of the volumes, in terms of the artwork, pacing, dialogues, and just the overall ambiance. It's not that it's bad - it just feels rather strange and a bit rushed.

Still, it's a great ending for a great series. It's a rather bittersweet coming of age for the all these 20-somethings, and a very honest, believable one at that. We get closure on most of t More...

About a month ago, I realized that I hadn't reviewed Scott Pilgrim #6 here... so I added it and went to write my review. Then I realized, I couldn't remember what happened in this volume. And THEN I realized... I hadn't even read it yet! Argh! No wonder I never achieved full closure on this series! So I, of course, had to remedy that situation.

Firstly, I noticed the vast difference between the artwork in this volume and the art in the first volume, which has always been my biggest More...

While I greatly enjoyed the final volume of SP, I'll admit that I was slightly disappointed by it. I was rooting for a specific pairing to occur by the end of the book & it didn't happen. I do like how the book resolved, though.

Without Ramona in his life, Scott Pilgrim has spent most of his time on his sofa playing video games. His friends attempt to get him to take action but to no avail- he is completely unwilling to move. When he finally does decide to take action, it is so he can More...

I really dug how this ended!!

Review from a mother of a 13 year old

* There's a tad bit of cussing
* A tad bit of drinking
* A tad bit of blood but I've seen worse from Mortal Combat

~ A review from someone who has seen the movie ~

I really think that the ending of the movie was so "I don't get it" because there were tons of stuff left out that are in the comic book. But maybe that was their secret ploy... Go see the movie, scratch More...

(One review for all six Scott Pilgrim books)

These six short graphic novels are the basis of the film Scott Pilgrim vs the World. Although I enjoyed the film, I found the main character incredibly annoying. He's annoying in the books as well, but much less so. I found myself enjoying them much more than the film. Like the film, the basic plot of the series is that the eponymous Scott Pilgrim must defeat the seven evil exes of his girlfriend Ramona Flowers in order to be with her.

Four stars? Really? Maybe sometime later I'll settle Mr. Pilgrim's grand finale back down to a respectable three, but let me take a moment to defend the high praise: yes the Scott Pilgrim series is cute, hip, trendy, and full of the video game and bubblegum humor that my generation loves and may not weather well after a few decades. But there are things going on in these little books that cut deeper and glow brighter than all the the Double Dragon Meets Garden State glitter -- secret undercurren More...

I totally like the ending of this wonderful series, even if there were a bunch of moments that were unnecessarily confusing or not how I wanted them to end.
After seeing the movie, it's hard not to compare the plot and characters here to the movie's ending. The book obviously has more time to go through the motions and emotions. Scott's spaced-out state of mind at the end of the 5th book (which I disliked) was wrapped up nicely, even if it didn't make sense.
However, Gideon's eviln More...

My experience with O'Malley's comic-books it’s been like a rollercoaster... I loved the first one, the next two were still good but not quite ... later (vol. 4) almost lost interest but couldn’t let Wallace go (I have a big crush on Mr. Wells)... and in Volume 5 began to regain my confidence, and now here we are! The last one and I feel quite conflicted on the number of stars...

Oh Scotty Scott Scott.
You got me, babe. So I was all embittered towards both the film and by extension this book, because I was all He's Gone Commercial! He's Totally Full of Himself! The franchise is devouring itself like the snake eating it's tail!

So:
I let this hatred and dismay boil inside me for like a month, and then I had to choose between seeing SP or Step Up 3D at the movie theater and yes, I chose SP. And the floodgates opened, and the love and confusion I had More...

A brief overview for those people who automatically edit Michael Cera, who stars in the movie adaptation, out of their consciousness: Scott Pilgrim is a 23 year old (mostly) straight edge Canuck, in the okay band Sex Bob-omb who shares a 1BR apartment -- and bed -- with his gay friend Wallace.

When the series starts, Scott Pilgrim is in the beginnings of a pretty chaste relationship with Knives Chau, a high school girl. An Asian high school girl. The kind of high school girl who wear More...

This is a tale of two readings:

The first time I read through Scott Pilgrim's Finest Hour I went: "uhhh...really?" Underwhelmed, was an under statement. After building up potential conclusions for a year in my own mind, after imagining and re-imagining the deeper meanings O'Malley explored in this post-pop-modern-culture saga of romance and generational angst, I felt let down.

Then I realized: "oh...I was expecting WAY too much from a fun comic book series". More...

YES! Finest Hour indeed! The last Scott Pilgrim was great! I loved it! I laughed out loud at the panel in the beginning when Scott does the like one arm back, one arm forward thing and shouts "I think we should have SEX! CASUAL SEX!" because it's so perfectly, cluelessly, Scott Pilgrim. The playful "that happened in Volume 3!" stuff works much better here than it did in some of the previous volumes, and there was a lot of action -- some of the middle books got a little too mu More...

I was so excited to read Scott Pilgirm’s Finest Hour, the sixth and final volume in the series, that even though I had ordered it for ridiculously cheap, the moment I got near Big Brain Comics last Tuesday I caved and bought another copy. There was no way in hell I was going to be able to wait another day to find out what happend to Scott, Ramona, and their gang of wry sidekicks.

Volume 6 takes place roughly four months after Volume 5. Ramona’s MIA, Scott’s vegging in an apartment pai More...

Before my my 34th birthday last week I joked with my BF that all I wanted was a box of Lotte Choco-Pies and a couple of comic books. But actually that really was all I wanted, and Scott Pilgrim's Finest Hour was on the list.

The final installment in the series (on which the major motion picture is based) is predictably fun and irreverent, predictably packed with satisfying references to manga and videogames and the delightful ennui of generation whatever. What I did not predict was h More...

This is it! After six years, and several thousand (I kid you not) pages of graphic novel, the "Epic of Epic Epicness" concludes. This is one hell of barn stormer. While the prior volumes focus on the fun, humorous aspects of Scott Pilgrim and his friends' existences in Toronto (a version of Toronto I would LOVE to hang out in), this one is way more driven to clearly provide the heaviness that was only hinted at when Scott Pilgrim vs. The Universe left off on that wondrous cliff hanger, More...

More...

The epic conclusion to Scott Pilgrim’s adventures as he battles Ramona’s 7 evil ex-boyfriends. Gideon continues to turn up for battle even though Scott isn’t even with Ramona anymore! Since she just disappeared he doesn’t remember much of anything, he’s just wading through life, barely eating, paying hardly any attention to his friends, with no concept of time at all. Scott is officially in depressed city. One by one he meets his ex-girlfriends and tries to have one last go at it. Towards the en More...

This review of the Scott Pilgrim series covers the entire sequence from Volume 1 through 6.

Scott Pilgrim's saga of love and conflict against his sweetheart Ramona Flowers' Seven Evil Exes is charming, funny, exhilarating, peculiar, meandering and indicative of the kind of unruly and inspirationally creative storytelling that comics or graphic novels can achieve. At the core Scott Pilgrim is about a regular, semi-jerky guy in his early twenties. He just wants to play video games, be i More...

Four stars for the series overall, three star for this installment. I made the mistake of seeing the movie before reading the books, but my fiancé is a fan and the movie at least piqued my interest; I know it's cliche, but the books are far, far superior. You get way more backstory, way more insight into the characters and their relationships beyond just Scott & Ramona, but the nuances of their weird turn-of-the-Millenium courtship is explored more deeply as well. It's beautifully drawn and an More...

Though I've given most of these books three stars, I think the cumulative effect of the series is more like 4 stars. This is just a really delightful comic.

I didn't love the books so much as a narrative, but I love the little glances, the beats, the over-the-top expressions, the large watery eyes, the awkwardness, the embarrassment, and all the other bits and pieces that make up the moments in between the evil ex battles. Those fights are the selling point, but it seems even O'Malle More...

There are hidden depths here. First and foremost, Scott Pilgrim is a prescient and accurate paean to the years of young adulthood in the Great White North. Scott Pilgrim himself may be the weak point of the books. As a character, he vacillates between an almost catatonic state of forgetful inaction where his most coherent sentence is often, "Can we make out now?" to a smart, sensitive man with sweet ninja moves. O'Malley fails to perfectly mesh these facets of his character.

Whilst it should be said that the sum of Scott Pilgrim's parts are greater than any of the individual books in the series, Scott Pilgrim's Finest Hour knocks the ball out of the park and provides a genuinely perfect ending to an overall perfect adventure. There's so much to like in this book, that I was almost tempted to give it five stars, but refrained due to the slightly convoluted attempt to explain subspace and Gideon's power. Up until this point, things like this needed no explanation (we' More...
