Zurita is a poet who has been much-lauded by the wonderful writers at Montevidayo, and after discovering that the library I work at had a copy of one of his books, I checked it out. The biographical information presented in the text seems to indicate that this was Zurita’s first (major?) work, published during the turmoil of Pinochet’s Chilean dictatorship. Incredible poet writing about an incredible time. I am searching for the other two volumes in his work...definitely a must read poet for me. I will be going back to this volume again and again. More thorough review will come when I know him better.

zurita you broke my cheek again.
Amazing.
zurita writes beautifully and has been beautifully translated into english by anna deeny. the work is heavy, grave, full of gravity. the poems are intense. tread cautiously into this landscape of violence and love.
Some of the beauty may be lost in translation, but there are some gorgeous lines. A tad too much repetition for me so far, but I just cracked it open.
