Kenapa digelar sedemikian rupa? A mouth-gaping account of the exploits of the 1/9th Cavalry during the Vietnam War. The risks taken by this experimental helicopter unit were absolutely horrifying, as we're the casualties they took--especially by the crews of the tiny Light Observation Helicopters (LOH's) which got directly in the enemies' faces and shot them down in spite of the tiny chopper ...more
I've read and re-read this book three times so far.
What makes it so compelling are all the different perspectives from each author. Most of them center around the history of the 1/9th Air Cavalry in Vietnam.
I think the writers behind Apocalypse Now appropriated some of the legend behind the 1/9th (1st Squadron, 9th Cavalry) that is pure solid gold reading here.
Absolutely stunning tales, I'll still have my dog-eared copy for years and years.
Great anecdotes from several perspectives of the 1/9th Cav - Scout pilots & gunners, Gunship pilots, "Blues" (infantry) platoon members, and a few from soldiers who filled more than one role. Quite a lot can be learned about how these units were employed and how effective they were at their task. Worth reading for any student of the Vietnam War.
