Lover Mine is the eighth book in the Black Dagger Brotherhood series. It’s about second chances. About circumstances and relationships coming full circle. About revenge, trust, friendship and love. But most importantly: it’s about John Matthew.

John Matthew, aka Darius reincarnated, is undoubtedly one of the most popular characters in the series. When we meet him in Lover Eternal, he’s a scrawny little mute who lives i...more

"As she stood beside John Matthew, and watched his huge body crumple down by the bed, the organ that beat behind her sternum shattered like a mirror.
Nothing but shards.
She was utterly and completely ruined as he cradled that pillow like it was a newborn, and in this moment of his utter despair, she would have done anything to ease his pain: Even though she had no idea why he felt the way he so clearly did, the reasons were unimportant.
His suffering was paramount."

In trying to review LOVER MINE two words keep popping into my head; Amazing and Damn… just damn. How can I honestly put into words how much I loved this story and how sad I am that it’s over? Following a year long wait JR Wards 8th instalment of the Black Dagger Brotherhood finally made its way into my eager little hands. At 512 pages LOVER MINE is huge (with a fantastic cover) and I’m happy to report that it does not disappoint, in fact...more

Okay, I'm giving this book four stars, not because of its literary prowess, but because of its enjoyability.

However, after eight books in this series, I have a serious problem. Well, frankly I had a problem from the first book but I've already reviewed that one.

My big problem is in the characters and the gender roles they embody. Now, there's been a great deal of criticism over J.R. Ward's treatment of female characters in these books. Xhex and Payne are like a bandaid she uses to patch this up....more

I’ve tried for months to write a review that would do this book justice but I have so many thoughts and feelings running through my mind that I can’t seem to form a coherent paragraph, much less an entire review! So after months of trying and failing, this is the best I could do. Please allow me to present to you –

^^I LOVER THIS!^^

Hardly any spoilers.

How am I gonna review this without writing a novel, well lets just say its gonna be real hard. When it comes to the BDB I gots a lot to say ya feel me. The latest instalment is just feckin perfection, the boys are back in a big way. When it comes to this series its either you are a fan girl or you completely hate it, but I say this what’s not to love. This is the only vampire series that just stands alone, there are no comparisons and its like you know every...more

This book could have easily broken my heart. I've been waiting so long to see John Matthew and Xhex find their happy ending. Anyone who knows me, knows how much I adore this couple. If it's even possible, I probably love them twenty times more now.

The WARDen is so good at writing stories about human nature, all the weaknesses, the vulnerabilities, the strengths. How, at the end of the day, all of us just want to feel special, to feel loved. And when we don't feel that, how it has the power to d...more

I wasn't expecting much out of this book, as I am not a huge fan of Xhex. I like John Matthew a lot actually, but he's not my favorite. In fact I wish we'd seen more of the Blay/Qhuinn/Saxton drama.
From most of the reviews I'd read, the big complaint was the Paranormal Reality show. I must be in the minority because I loved it! I thought it was short and to the point, but with enough substance to make sense. I guessed who the ghost was within the first couple scenes, but I won't say so as n...more

Oh John Matthew. This man takes me away. Though he has many demons that follow him every minute of his life, JM is a male of worth. And Xhex, her story is beautiful. I love her strength and her brute force, but I also love how she allows JM into her world. In Lover Mine, we get a look into her past and we also experience her love for John as she falls hard for him. I've been rooting for this couple since the very beginning and I loved every moment of it.

I wish I had a gift for words that would befit how I feel about this series. Yes, this incredibly well-written series has an engaging and complex world, interesting plots, incredibly sexy alpha males, heart-warming romance, great action scenes, and villains who I’d like to take out back and shoot with a SIG. All of that is wonderful, yet is only a small part of why I read (stalk) this series.

What really pulls me in is the People. Yes, I said People. Not characters. Characters are interesting en...more

J.R. Ward, I bow down to you. You blew me away with this read and I don't know that another BDB book will do the same.

Thank you so much for hours of enjoyment that went by all too quickly. Thank you for the tears, the sadness, the surprises and the joy this book brought to me.

At first Xhex was not a heroine to me but I was wrong. You created this amazing character that survived so much to become mated with the one she was destined to be with for all her life. You made me fall in love with Xhex...more

2011 RE-READ.

I would still give this book 5 stars, in fact I think I even loved it a tiny bit more.

I wanted to like Xhex more and I really did this time.

I still didn't like the ghost story, really thought it was just ridiculous. Buuuuut this just didn't stop my love of this book - ABSOLUTELY LOVED IT.

Roll on 29th MARCH!!!!!

OMG!!!
I loved it. I must say there was a part at the middle of the book that made me doubt if I would give a 5 stars rating to this book but that doubt was over once I got to the ending of the book. I mean, seriously, this was the best ending I have read in a book. It totally change what I was thinking before of the book. Loved, loved, loved how everything worked up at the end.

John and Xhex were 2 of my fav characters since they first appeared in the series and I was just dying to read their sto...more

Ohh in some was it was difficult for me to give this 5 stars but in others it was easy. So why the hesitation? well I have to say that certain parts of this story niggled me whilst others just grabed my attention, plus I couldn't put it down which is definately not the way of a 3 star read. I 'm going first with the things that niggled, so here goes

I finished this a couple of days ago, and I'm still thinking about it. First of, I really came to like Xhex. Still not my first choice for John Matthew, but it was the one he wanted so... I skipped over most of the Reality T.V. part. Like really skipped over, this may bite me in the butt later on, but it just interuppted the flow every time! Qhuinn and Blay...oh, dear lord, whats gonna happen there? WHAT'S GONNA HAPPEN THERE!!! Yum. It was good. I kind of miss the simplicity of the first books....more

I think I enjoyed this even more the second time around because I wasn't speeding through. I particularly liked how Ward brought this whole story in a giant circle with pasts meeting presents.

***********************POSSIBLE SPOILER*****************************

I am a late comer to this series, and after all the great reviews, I still had reservations. However; my book quest kept leading me back to this series. It wasn't until one of my favorite "GOODREADS" friends showed sooo much enthusiasm over these books that I decided to take the plunge. I'm so glad I did. (Thanks Amy)

I am not even sure what I can say about this book that hasn't already been said so I am just going to share some of my thoughts and feelings. I know some people didn't think JM's story was a good or powerful because he wasn't a brother and seemed more like a kid. That is actually what I love most about JM - we watched him grow, transition, loose his innocence and become the hard man he is. As AWESOME as the other brothers are we didn't get to make that journey with them we had to get it in piece...more

"Some things are destined to be -- it just takes us a couple of tries to get there."

I am emotionally exhausted. I think I cried more with this story than any other in the BDB, and I don't mean tearing up, but gut wrenching, chest aching sobs.

This is the 8th entry in JR Ward's Black Dagger Brotherhood series starring John Matthew (aka Therror) and Xhex, the former security chief for Rhev at ZeroSum. The book starts off where Lover Avenged basically left off. Note: spoilers abound so hopefully yo...more

So, I really wanted to like this word parking lot. I wanted to serve it a plate of you-the-bomb. Hitting the rewind button on RL, the beginning of this book had me palming the snooze button. There was a whole lot of wake me when this junk gets good going on. What's doing, JR? What? You know us fans love some action, true? Blasting some Jay-Z rhymes in the background, I sucked it up and read the dang thang. And wouldn't you know, it started to get good on me? I was feeling some this-book-is-kinda...more

It’s kind of hard for me to rate this book. For the pure enjoyment factor, I’d give it a solid four stars. The same grammatical/editorial errors that annoyed me in “Lover Avenged” were present in this book and I tried to make myself ignore them, but I won’t deny that they’re kind of distracting.

At this point, I think I’m going to do a likes/dislikes review. I’ll try to keep things short and sweet and not get all analytical. Maybe.

John and Xhex are officially my favorite couple and this is up there with my favorite books in the series (although on reflection Lover Avenged retains the top spot for the overall story). I must admit that I had a lot of expectations and a lot of theories going into this one - and while the expectations were more than met, very little of it went down quite the way I was expecting it to go. There were a lot of interesting developments - and while I'm not sure how I feel about all of them, it def...more

5++ Stars - I LOVE THIS BOOK!!!!

WOW! I think this book was even more emotional the second time around, and of course I noticed even more things!!

I still love JM and Xhex. They are my favorite couple, and this is my favorite book so far. We've followed their story for so long, and it was just as emotional. The first time I read this book I was in an emotional cloud for a few days.

There's too many unbelievable moments, and quotes. But to summarize, the chemistry between John and Xhex i...more

I am at a bit of a loss as to how to review this one without giving too much away. There is just so much going on, so many threads and backstories and foreshadowings of what is to come, that avoiding spoilers is a bit tricky. I will apologize in advance, since I am sure this one is going to be on the long side.

In Lover Mine, we get the story of John Matthew and his mate, Xhex. While I look forward to the Ward books, I wasn't all that crazed to get my hands on this one. Neither JM or Xhex registe...more
