The only thing Avery Hood can remember about the night her parents died is that she saw silver—deadly silver, moving inhumanly fast. As much as she wants to remember who killed them, she can't, and there's nothing left to do but try to piece her life back together. Then Avery meets the new boy in school—Ben, mysterious and beautiful, with whom she feels a connection like n...more

The cover of “Low Red Moon” is positively enchanting. When my friend and I spied it on the shelf, we immediately picked it up, startled at how the book glowed. I am not immune to beauty, and I certainly was not immune to this book. Despite my reservations toward the book’s contents, I couldn’t walk away fast enough with it in my hands.

My fascination ended with the cover, for face-deep beauty cannot possibly hope to redeem the ugliness inside. The blurb describes this story as “part murder myster...more

I felt like this book had a really promising start--Avery is found in the woods covered in her parents' blood after they've been murdered and mutilated and though she was there, she can't remember a thing. I was really interested in the mystery of what happened and why, and also in finding out how Avery would deal with the loss and horror of it.

Low Red Moon turned out to be a real mish-mash of things--paranormal romance, murder mystery, environmental mysticism... Unfortunately, they didn't real...more

This book is the whole package, as not only did I love the story, but the book's layout is amazing! I absolutely love the cover, which may not be the final cover, and the details on each page of the book. I'm a sucker for a good wolf story, and Low Red Moon has great werewolf mythology.

Ivy hit her mark with me, as her paranormal, murder mystery is set in a small town, out in the forest, which has more than just wolves in it. I love this setting. I really like that the forest is a character in th...more

There is a real shift in the balance between presentation and content for this book. I think that the cover and pages are far too artsy and yes it kind of grabs you through that, but the content is very disappointing. To be honest, if a book has a good plot and reads great with complex characters e.t.c. I won't care at all about if every time "moon" is written it is in bold red. Nor will I care if there are a bunch of patterns on the pages. I buy a book to read it, and sure the artwork was prett...more

Low Red Moon is not your typical fantasy about werewolves. I've read quite a few reviews for Low Red Moon and been surprised by the average ratings it's received considering it was a highly promoted novel in a popular genre. I get it, though. Reading the blurb, even going by the beautiful cover and gorgeous stylised format of the book inside, I was expecting not urban fantasy but at least modern fantasy along the lines of Maggie Stiefvater, Meyers etc.

But Low Red Moon isn't modern fantasy, it's...more

BOOK BUTTERFLY
I was intrigued by the premise of Low Red Moon as soon as I watched the trailer and read the synopsis. The setting seemed eerily perfect—small town community, a family living practically "off the grid", superstitious murmurings about creatures in the forest and a dangerous new guy at school. A teenage girl survives a brutal attack on her family but is left with no recollection of what happened. I had to know why she couldn't remember what happened to her parents. But more than that, I wanted to...more

Low Red Moon is an addictive read, I gulped it down in one sitting, staying up way past my bedtime to find out what happened. It is deliciously creepy in that tales around the campfire, shivers down the spine, I'll just check the doors locked, kind of way.

It's also a love story and a gorgeous, heart stopping, swoonworthy one too. Avery and Ben have so much chemistry, and their scenes together are so hot, I'm surprised the book didn't combust. They do have one of those instant connections but it'...more

So Im a cover love Kinda girl, the cover initially sucked me in, very pretty and the inside very alluring. The blurb intriging so it found its way home with me.

The begninning of the book was definelty created as the magnet in this story, filled with suspense, murder, mystery. A Love interest added in to create that love story and he filled the paranormal element so many of us readers enjoy.

I wasnt sure what to expect from the begining of the story It had me intrigued but found I wanted more , I...more

Where can I start with this book? Firstly on goodreads.com you can mark books out of 5 stars however I don’t think that 5 stars is enough! It should have 10 or even 11 stars! I read this book in 2 and a half hours as I couldn’t stop reading it, there is something seriously spellbinding about this story.

The two main characters were very vivid and you instantly felt a connection to Ben. There were a couple of Twilight (Stephenie Meyer)...more

REVIEW
Low Red Moon is a romantic paranormal murder mystery. If that doesn’t grab your attention, I don’t know what will.
The romance between Avery and werewolf Ben was sweet. Ben clearly had Avery’s best interests in mind and he formed a strong bond with her. Avery seemed to fall for him quickly given her fragile state-of-mind. I wish that they had moved a little more slowly in the beginning, although I did like the way their relationship eventually grew.
The werewolf part of this story was uniqu...more

There're only a few things I like about Low Red Moon by Ivy Devlin--aka Elizabeth Scott, according to the information I found on amazon.com, first the pretty book cover and the fine book design. That's it.

I picked up the book mostly because I found the recommendation from Melissa de la Cruz, author of the Blue Bloods series, but how I regret reading this book now! Dear Miss de la Cruz, you fail me big time! *sighs*

Okay, instead of vampires, Low Red Moon offers us werewolves. We get a 'forbidden'...more

Avery Hood's parents were brutally murdered in the woods outside their house, and the only thing she remembers seeing is inhuman flashes of silver. Homeschooled and raised in the forest surrounding her ramshackle house, Avery is sent to live with Renee, her paternal grandmother. The two have been estranged for many years, and it's an awkward living arrangement at best.

Avery struggles to cope with soul-rending grief as everything she's ever loved is taken away from her, especially her deep connec...more

This was a nice little surprise for me. I had dismissed this book all together at first, then i saw it for $5 at a discount bookstore and grabbed it. And i'm so glad i did. It turned out to be really good.

The last line of the blurb reads 'part murder mystery, part grief narrative, and part heart-stopping, headlong romance.' And that's exactly what it was.

Avery has witnessed the brutal murder of her family, but can't remember a thing. She is grief stricken; her parents were everything to her, and...more

I honestly can't remember the main reason why I bought this book because there's nothing overly interesting in the blurb that doesn't make it sound like every other book out there. I think I was still coming out of my younger girly days and into the paranormal YA fiction when I picked it up.

From what I can remember (as I read this a long time ago) the story is about Avery who lives with her grandma after her parents are murdered. She was there the night they were killed but can only remember a f...more

This book had potential but just just didn't feel fully developed to me. Some plot points were weak, like the town having a meeting to tear someone's house down. Seriously?! I'm pretty sure it wouldn't be THAT easy to tear someone's house down. I'm sure there have been murders in other houses, and towns just haven't torn the house down - without even discussing it with the owners - just because of a crime committed on the property. Also, the whole cutting down a tree to kill someone thing seemed...more

I found this book totally unbelievable! There was nothing realistic except he fact that most of the book was total bullshit.

The book starts of with the death of Avery's parents, she is found near the body and covered in blood but cannot remember what had happened or how she had survived, all she could remember was something silver.

Avery was homeschooled until she was fifteen but never really fitted into high school, more so, after the deth of her parents. I never really understood that! Her pare...more

Low Red Moon was a book I really had no idea what to expect when I had started it. It was a good read, but I had some issues with the overall plot.

The plot was interesting. The book was too short for some of the whys to some of the ideas raised to fully be fleshed out, and that left me dissatisfied. The whole deal with the forest was probably the biggest. I didn't quite get why everything happened because of it.

I overall liked the characters in Low Red Moon. I could not stand Krista, how she act...more

What attracted me to read this book was . . . the cover! (stares at cover and sighs). It's so pretty! Yes, I'm such a girl, but I can't help it! It's so shiny, and pretty and RED. And don't get me started on the inside. Each chapter has a pretty tree, the word moon is red throughout the book, the pretty red forest footer...see! Everything is so pretty!

A suspenseful young-adult, paranormal romance

Avery Hood was the first person to find the bodies of her parents. They were brutally murdered in the woods near her home, a dilapidated shack in the country that her father built himself.

Avery is so traumatized by the event, she has amnesia and can't remember anything about that night, other than a flash of silver, moving inhumanly fast. Night after night she has violent, bloody dreams that terrify her, but her memory remains elusive.

Prior to the m...more

When I read the synopsis for 'Low Red Moon' I thought it had all the makings of a good novel, but I found it a little disjointed. The story as a whole is a combination of romance, the paranormal, and a mystery. The book is short and the story felt rushed.

The story is told from Avery's point of view and it starts with her recollection of the events after her parents death. I sympathize with Avery, as this must be a very traumatic experience, not only did she lost her parents, but her memory of th...more

Plot: 3 Stars
I really love shapeshifters, so this novel is right up my alley. But for all of the werewolf talk, we never really learn much about the lore or the creatures. Avery learns they exist, and accepts it as fact a bit quickly. She barely denied it for a day before accepting it as normal. But with that easy acceptance, there was ample opportunity for her to learn all about them, and that just didn't happen. All we learn is a few details about the change. Although I was disappointed about...more

I read this book twice because I enjoyed reading it. It's a typical paranormal romance, with a few bonuses that are splendid. Naturally, I have a list.
1. It's Twilight but not so obnoxious...so to speak. I have to defend the paranormal romance writer in general. They've all seen the success of books with insta-love, brooding boys, and sweet somewhat lonesome girls. They're popular. Teen girls LOVE them. Single women LOVE them. Moms LOVE them. I mean, you see what I mean. If it ain't broke, don't...more

Firstly, I should say that this book is beautiful to look at. The cover is gorgeous and the little red forest at the bottom of every page is ever-so pretty! I picked up this book based entirely on the cover and, once again, my instincts steered me well.

I was dubious when I got home and read the blurb. I've read a few werewolf books over the last couple of years and I've found the format to be somewhat prosaic and predictable. While Devlin's book didn't come with any shock-horror twists, it cert...more

I received this book as a trade today from Read It, Swap It and started reading it straight away, I've just finished it.

First of all, I have to admit that I was a bit unsure about this read, I've been a little bored of werewolves for a while and only got this book because I was looking for something other than dystopian for a while, so i didn't exactly set my hopes too high. As well as this, I have read a few bad reviews so I wasn't expecting...more

I wasn’t sure exactly what to expect when I picked up this book. Someone had already told me they’d hated it (after I’d bought it), but I’d also seen some good reviews... Possibly that’s the way it will be for this book, some will love it some won’t. But I honestly didn’t see anything in this book to land it on such a knife edge. A book like Fallen, reading that I can understand the hate it or love it phenomenon, but not with this book.

Avery is a lovely character, who despite her uniqueness is e...more
