Despite much study of Viennese culture and Judaism between 1890 and 1914, little research has been done to examine the role of Jewish women in this milieu. We know the author.

A lot has been written about Jewish life in fin-de-siecle Vienna, but always focusing on Jewish men. This book is an exhaustive study of Jewish women in that time & place, including childhood, religious education & commitment, political involvement, educational opportunities, activities in art & culture, & dealing with Zionism & anti-Semitism. Etc. Well written, with lots of original research based on women's (& some men's) memoirs.
