They thrive on the scent of fear. And if it is night, as sure as darkness, the will come." "In a valiant rebellion against a half century of occupational by the Kurians, the newly form...more

** "Valentine's Exile" (Vampire Earth 5) by E. E. Knight starts slow, reviewing the setting and cast. I first listened to the audio, before the book was available. Never again. Hours - was it 18?. I thought I knew what was coming the first time, the second pass was not nice, I held my breath over crude, crud, and stink, even humor bits. The hero is stuck in horrible pits. Parts were not credible, such as that he saddles student-free old swamp teacher Eveready (from book #1) for months ...more

E.E. Knight’s Valentine’s Exile begins shortly after the events of Valentine’s Rising. David Valentine and his platoon of Razorbacks have just finished playing the key role in saving Southern Command from complete destruction. Valentine’s troops are mobilized to Dallas, a city currently held by the Kurians. When the Razorbacks save the day again, Valentine is promoted and is given three months leave. Unfortunately, Valentine hardly sets out before he discovers himself exiled from his homeland un...more

Val cannot catch a break. The guy just wants to serve the cause to the best of his ability and stuff keeps happening. Stuff happens here too - and he (of course) manages to overcome it. Sort of. Nice cliff-hanger ending.

Wonderful continuation, though doesn't make much sense if you haven't read the others. I think E. E. Knight has managed to put every single type of thriller novel and archetype into this series: military ranger, secret agent, escaped prisoner, battlefield commander, etc. Pretty ridiculous.

I think I might be a little bit tired of Valentine's own side's politics and backbiters kicking his butt. That might be why I'm giving it a 3 instead of another 4 for the series. I'm continuing in it, but it wasn't All That.

Book six or so of a series that was great for the first two books, and has been enjoyable since.

I love this series. I am not a huge Sci fi/fantasy fan, but I can't wait to pick up the next book in this series.

Another fantastic book, I couldn't put it down, waiting to see what happened next. The ending was...I don't know a little scary, in what Valentine might do. Can't wait for the next book.

Lot slower than the other books in the series. I'd call this the (hopefully) quiet before the storm. Still, a visit with an old friend is always welcome. Knight paints such a wonderful picture in my mind that I can't quit this series. Now if you'll excuse me, I have to go buy the next 2 Valentine stories.

It just keeps getting better! Man, I wish I could tell you some of the stuff that happens in here. Kept me up most of the night because i couldn't put it down. I can't WAIT for the next one!

A nice, light read. One thing I like about this series is that Knight isn't afraid to change his world or characters in fairly drastic ways. You don't find that much in serial fiction.

being a man of action and not of politics, valentine is forced into exile because of the choices he has made... ENDING IS FANTASTIC!!!
