I was looking for a quick, cozy mystery and loved the premise of this book, so I snagged it at the library.

But everything disappointed me in this book, from the way the main character unrealistically jumped to the conclusion of murder before anyone had even examined the body, to the way she interviewed and annoyed all her neighbors in her small town.

There was no tension, just a huge snooze.

However -- this writer showed competence in her writing and in the way she thought up her characters, and...more

This book was hard to rate.I felt it was had a very strong mystery especially for a cozy, but I also had a very serious problem with the set-up.So I guess I will start with waht I liked and then go to what I didn't.

My favorite scene is when Suzanne meets with her book group friends. They are discussing why people in mysteries always act so strangely. Suzanne's response is if they called the police at the first sign of trouble, it would be a very short book. That was the perfect response.

As i said...more

Over all this was a fun, light read. It's worth a lazy afternoon. At times the dialogue seemed forced, and didn't flow naturally in general.

The spare character, (view spoiler)[David, offered nothing to the plot of the book, and I'm really unclear on why he appeared at all. It seemed that the intention may have been to add him in as potential competition for the protagonists boyfriend Jack Bishop, but the story line was never developed. (hide spoiler)]

Overall there wasn't much character developm...more

I absolutely loved the first book in this series, Glazed Murder, and was so enthused to start reading the second book, Fatally Frosted.

This time it is Suzanne that is framed for murder, when Peg Masterton eats one of her donuts and dies!

Fatally Frosted was a enjoyable read, as Suzanne tries to discover who the murderer is, with the help of her friends Grace and George. However her love interest, Jake, is caught up in the investigation and unable to help, so its up to them to solve it themselves....more

Not nearly as good as the first on or the most recent Drop Dead Chocolate. At least I know the rest of the books in the series aren't all downhill after this one. If I hadn't already read the latest one to know this then I may be hesitant to read another book in the series. It just seemed so rushed and the exact same thing as the first book but with subpar writing and a boring murder victim. Plus, how does Suzanne afford to pay for her friends' meals when they go out to eat or give them all free...more

I thought this donut mystery was even better than the first one. A fun, light and quick read that will leave you craving donuts! Suzanne Hart is in the middle of doing a cooking demo at a neighbor's house when Peg, the sharp talking woman who organized the event, is found dead in the backyard. When it becomes clear that her death was caused by one of Suzanne's donuts, she sets out to find the killer and clear her name. This book wasn't exactly life changing but it was a real page turner- I was i...more

This the second book in the Doughnut Shop mystery series. Suzanne has been asked to be a demonstration chef on a tour of homes, and is making a modified version of beignets. She is being harassed by tour organizer, Peg, who thinks Suzanne is not qualified and may embarrass the tour; however, even Peg can't resist Suzanne's delicious lemon filled doughnuts. When a dead body is discovered before the first beignet is made, it looks like someone is trying to frame Suzanne. She must use her amateur d...more

As I stated in my previous blog post, I continued to read this novel in hopes it would tie up some loose ends from the first one, Glazed Murder. It didn't, and I was extremely disappointed.

In this book, our slightly plump heroine, Suzanne Hart, discovers a pushy local has been murdered by one of her own donuts. In order to clear her name, she has to...

I didn't really care for the first book in this series- I'm pretty sure I also rated it 2 stars. I normally wouldn't have continued with the series, but I bought both books at the same time and I figured I would go ahead and read the second one, just in case it was better than the first. It wasn't. I can't really even begin to express how awful I found this book. I suppose if you really liked the first one, you might like this one, but I wouldn't count on it.

I was in the mood for something other than romance . . . . a friend suggested mystery, but I don't like to read about violent stuff, so Jessica Beck was suggested.

This book was a fun mystery, quirky and interesting. I couldn't relate much to the lifestyle of these people, so I didn't enjoy it immensely, but I finished the book and the mystery wasn't easy to figure out, so I guess that makes a good mystery.

I struggled with the first in this series and this one just didn't do it for me either. I found the dialog to be stilted and un-natural, although there were some hints of humor, and I just didn't care about the characters. I did love how the main character didn't hold back and stood up for herself, though. Something that should happen a bit more often in cozy mysteries. :)

I really enjoyed this book. The murder is sudden and bounces the book off to a splendid beginning. I like the characters and the location. The dialog is good and keeps you interested. For those who love Donuts...well, the recipes will keep you going.

I liked the ending and am looking forward to "Sinister Sprinkles" the next one in the series. Pre-order now!

I still haven't decided if I love this series but they're cozy little mysteries that give me something to read when I wait at doctors offices or at swimming pools. I think I'll keep reading. Super curious to know who is actually writing these books. The author uses a pen name and nobody can write THAT many books in just a couple of years.

Outspoken Suzanne has a donut shop and one of her donuts was poisoned and used to murder Peg. Suzanne takes on the small town and tries to figure out whodunit. She is pretty harsh with some of the people, so this is not all a sweet story. Kinda silly, but a quick read. I liked the bits about the shop and it being in an old train station.

Who killed Peg Masterson, the organizer of the kitchen tour? Suzanne just has to investigate because Peg was killed via a doughnut. Yes someone sprinkle one of Suzanne's doughnuts with rat poison. The second in The Doghnut Shop Mystery series is a good read. I read it in one sitting. You will emjoy this series set near the Blue Ridge Mountains of North Carolina.

This is the first book by the author I've read, although it's book #2 in a series. I didn't go in with high expectations, so I enjoyed myself far more than I thought I would. There's just something about running a donut shop that makes me go "Eeee!" The murder was just icing on the donut.

This is a cute, mindless read for those days when you just want to relax. I picked it up at the library on a whim. It would be good for plane/train rides or vacation, but I think I'd wait for it to be available at the library instead of paying any money.

This is the second in the Donut Shop mysteries. It is one of the myriad series of shop owners (candy, cookies, donuts) who solve murders in their small towns. They are the popcorn, potato chip, M&Ms of the literary world. Quick and easy to read and you can't stop at one. Haha

Kept my interest the whole way through; it was sprinkled wih donut recipes throughout. A small town mystery of 'who-dun it', with the suspect asonveigating a murder. And only at theend washe murderer revealed.
Haris
A run-of-the-mill cozy mystery, with characters whose emotional reactions don't sync up with what's happening around them. Stilted and shallow at times, but still better than its predecessor in the series.

As a fan of culinary mysteries I'm always looking for new books and this one was great. I'm hoping to see more from this author in this series or anything similar. This was a good mystery with good hummor.

Suzanne, who owns a donut shop in N Carolina, is under suspicion for murder since someone was poisoned with one of her donuts. She is innocent. The niece of the murdered woman is the killer.

I just love this North Carolina town and the Donut Hearts bakery. It is amazing how much murder takes place in such a small town! If you read it, you will want to return again and again.

I wanted to love this series but just can't seem to. The characters don't gel for me, like they are not multidimensional . Even the main character, Suzanne, sometimes I think I get her, and then there will be some dialogue or an exchange with another character and I realize I can't pin her down at all. Her relationship with Jake is flimsy at best, and even her day to day encounters with Emma, her assistant, are weird to me. She will be some sort of boss lady to Emma one day and joking around the...more

Absolutely delicious! This mystery was fun and light hearted. I am in love with this little town that Jessica created, I even do venture to say that this book is even better than the first. Here we are introduced to the higher society of the town that Suzanne lives in, which is being headed by the town jerk who is just waiting for our new favorite detective slash baker to fail. Within the first couple chapters someone is murdered and all of the blame is being placed on Suzanne, and her love life...more

Okay, I'm getting hooked on this series of cozy mysteries featuring a donut shop owner -- even though there are recipes at the end of every single chapter.
Robyn
It was a very good book and a great mystery. However, the romantic part of Suzanne's life still feels like it's up in the air. I don't know if Jessica Beck intends it that way or not, but some of the things the character said about her current boyfriend left a bad taste in my mouth.

Fun read, but lacked a little compared to the first book in this series. Still love the main character though! I will continue this series:).......
