It was a little monotonous with the constant (constant!) recounting of movie plots. There are a few nuggets of information and insights, but not enough. This probably makes a better live presentation than book.

It doesn't cover TV at all, otherwise it might have addressed Dr. Horrible Sing-Along Blog or the musical episodes of different TV shows (like on Buffy or Moonlighting). It doesn't spend very much time with the Broadway musicals adapted for film in the last ten years. It doesn't even talk...more

Have to admit I didn't read every word; I skimmed a lot of the book but what a treasure trove of information about movie musicals! Made me add to my already long list of movies I want to see, or see again.

I didn't think I could learn anything new about this topic, and already on page 15 I've learned several.
Finished it! It became a bit redundant, yet a good review of the American movie musical. My only squable is that The Pirate, although it doesn't have memborable songs, is still a great move.
