Dana Birch vowed never to put herself at the mercy of a powerful man. She became a deputy so that she could take care of herself and protect those she loves. Especially her best friends, the Titan sisters. Twenty years ago, Garth Duncan swore revenge on Jed Titan for abandoning Garth and his mother. Now he's back to fulfill that promise, even if Jed's daughters get caught ...more

[Warning: This review contains spoilers for previous books.]

In the first three books of this series, all of the Titan sisters realized that their father doesn’t give a damn about them, and that they need to stick together instead of falling for his divisive tactics. And Izzy Titan also decided that their unacknowledged half-brother Garth, who has been trying to bring their father down, should be brought into the family and cured with love. Though she didn’t anticipate that their frien...more

I went into this book hating Garth, didn't really think that would change, so I was surprised by the end and now much I really liked him. I also didn't think that Izzy's plan to win Garth over with love would work as it was a stupid plan, but surprisingly I enjoyed that part of the story. I loved how the girls just bull dozed over him and he was forced to just go with it.

When Garth got involved with Dana it amped things up more. The sisters weren't quite sure who they should chast...more

review courtesy of Romance Junkies: Garth Duncan wants to exact revenge on his father, Jed Titan, and he will stop at nothing to achieve his goal. After Jed abandoned him and his mother, Garth wanted nothing to do with him. But unfortunate circumstances arose and Garth needed his father more than ever. Garth went to his father when his mother was diagnosed with a brain tumor, and Jed refused to help them. Because of that last meeting with his father, Garth pushed himself until he became a harden...more

This is the fifth book, and final book, by Susan Mallery in the Lone Star Sisters series. The story is about Dana Birch, Titansville deputy and life-long friend to the Titan sisters. She’s been charged, by the sisters, to keep an eye on Garth Duncan, the family’s nemesis. Garth, throughout the series, has been trying to take down Jed Titan because he refused to help Garth’s mother. Turns out Garth is Jed’s son (it’s not really a spoiler, because you find this out in the second book). This b...more

This is the fourth book in a series that I didn't especially love. I like Susan Mallery as an author and the premise of three sisters who are under attack because of their father's misdeeds. As I said, the first three books weren't fantabulous but I really liked this one.
It turns out that the man trying to wreck the three sisters was Garth Duncan, the illegitimate son of their father. He had gathered up his courage and asked his father for help twenty years ago. Jed Titan (the father) refu...more

Overall, not bad. And overall I would say the series is a 3 star, as well as this fourth and final installment. I am not sure I quite realized it until the fourth book, but while the 3 sisters were great on their own, I really disliked them when they were together. It seemed like they thought they were a force to be reckoned with and everyone else's feelings be damed.

I did like Dana and Garth, and probably best of the couples in this series. Dana is feisty, funny and loyal. Tho...more

Hot on Her Heels was a great conclusion to the Lone Star Sisters series. It was already clear from the previous book that Garth and Dana would be a lot fun together especially with all the banter. It was nice to get more insight and background from Dana. I liked her character growth. Garth as well, not only with Dana but his sisters (who definitely a force to be reckoned with). Plus he was so damn charming, I already warmed to him during his first scene. I kept thinking, wasn't I suppose to hate...more

"Hot on Her Heels" is the fourth book in the Lone Star Sisters series by Susan Mallery. This is the one that I anticipated that I would like the least. In this book, the author takes the bad guy from the previous 3 books and begins to show his good side. Slowly but surely, he becomes one of the good guys. Susan Mallery is good at this, I bought it and loved it! Dana, the best friend of the Titan sisters has a problem with strong men. She is a deputy sheriff and not at all "g...more

Just added this book to the coveted "Best of 2011" shelf! Abso-freakin-lutely one of THE best hero redemption stories I've ever read.

Garth starts out being a vile human being in Under Her Skin and continues being a jerk in Lip Service but by the end of Straight from the Hip you start to see a side of Garth that was unexpected. He's human just like the rest of us. With this book, Garth literally shines. He becomes the man he was meant to be and by the end of the book yo...more

Garth Duncan is the bastard son of Jed Titan. After Jed refused to help his mother and she suffered brain-damage from a tumor, Garth had vowed revenge against the Titans. He thought he could hurt Jed thru his sisters, but no such luck. Instead of rejecting him, his sisters worked to bring him in to the family and show him he belonged. Having their friend Dana keep an eye on him was even better.

Dana Birch was a deputy sheriff and she was not taking crap from anyone any more. Trying to get past he...more

Deputy Dana Birch knows that Garth Duncan is up to something fishy. He has revenge on his mind and she is determined to protect her best friends the Titan sisters from his wrath. The fact that they are his half-sisters just add to the messiness. The problem is that the more time she spends with him the harder it is to stay prickly.

Why I picked it up: The implies that Dana has trust issues, that she will never place herself at the mercy of a powerful man... and yet she is a deputy....more

Since this was the book I looked forward to from the minute I finished the first in the series, I was fully expecting to be disappointed, which is usually the case. Instead, I found it better than expected and thoroughly enjoyed watching Dana and Garth get together while Garth's three sisters joined forces with him to bring down their father. Garth's mother Kathy is a heartbreaker and I loved the short references to her animals. My main disappointment with the book was the quickness with whic...more

Liked the previous books in the series, but this one although not written any worse than the others was a disappointment. Actually it was the character Dana who was tiresome. She is so disfunctionally tiresome that she is stupid. No one is this bad. My thought is that if she dislikes all things "girly" so much she should just have been lesbian and let all the people around her catch a break from all her whining about not being weak. I believe in strong women as much as the nex...more

At first I was disappointed to once again get the finale book to judge, when I hadn't read any of the previous 3. The first few chapters made me fell like I really really needed to go back and read the others to make sense of the characters, because it seemed that I was supposed to know their stories well.

Then, it kicked in, and I was hooked. Mallery is a fabulous story teller, and the characters and dialogue were believable and funny. I found my self laughing more than I found mysel...more

This was a nice wrap-up to the series. I thought it was interesting how Dana and Garth happened. I mean it just happened. There wasn't much build-up and I think neither one saw it coming, but it worked. I loved how Dana wouldn't just bend to Garth's will and that he sort of respected her for that. And I loved that she didn't want to take anything from Garth. Many women wouldn't think twice if Garth wanted to give them stock or take them on a shopping spree, but she really didn't care about the m...more

I really give Hot On Her Heels 4.5 stars!

I was really pleased that Hot On Her Heels was Dana's and Garths book and that they became a couple!

I loved that Izzy and her sisters finally got to Garth and that he became a member of the Titan family! I also liked that Jed finally got what he deserved.

I enjoyed seeing Garth as more than just a bad guy out for revenge on a family that never knew about him and a father that wouldn't help him and his mother. I liked see...more

This was a book I couldn't put down and I enjoyed every second of it! It's the last book in the series and I'm really sad I'll be saying good-bye to the Titan sisters and Dana. This was by far the best of the books and I could so totally relate to Dana.

For an easy romantic read, this is your book (and your author!). Her books are filled with much more than just romance. The characters are always well-devloped and tug on your heartstrings. And the struggles they face are real and exc...more

What a fantastic ending to a fantastic series. Oh man, I loved, loved, loved it! I was actually a bit anxious to start it because I has such high hopes but when I read Edna Lyn's review I knew: It actually was good!

So yeah, I wanted to read about Dana since book 1. I loved her sarcasm and everything. She is just such a great character. What I hadn't see coming was that her lover would be Garth! As in Garth, half-brother and former bad guy (more like the usual bad guy!) who I kind of ...more

Like the rest of the books in this series, I didn't mind this one, liked it mostly, but I didn't find anything really great about it. It wasn't a horrible book by any means, but something about it just didn't ring my bell.

Series Note:
This book is the fourth and last book in Mallery's Lone Star Sisters series. The books are very interconnected and should be read in order.

The fourth and final book in the Lone Star Sisters series. My favorite of the series!

Garth Duncan is the illegitimate son of Jed Titan. Since he was 14-years-old, he's been on a path to destroy his father. Jed's daughters and by default, Garth's sisters, have gotten in the way, but now things have changed. The sisters and their closest friend, Dana, decide to dig up what they can on him to find out his real story.

Dana has never let a man into her life before. She h...more

What a great way to end the series. Instead of his original plan of ruining his Titan sisters, Garth not only develops a soft spot for them but he falls in love with their best friend Dana Birch. They all work together to protect one another and bring down Jed Titan. In the end they became one big happy family and Jed finally gets what he deserves, a long life in prison.

This was my favorite book of the series. Dana and Garth were both tough and kept a portion of their life a secret ...more

A disappointing end to this set of four books. I rated the first three each four stars, but not this one.

The first three books set up the half-brother Garth as the big bad guy, and the three sisters' friend Dana as a no-nonsense, down to earth woman. Of course the fourth book brings them together and makes Garth into a good guy, but not terribly believably for me. Besides that big picture, even the details didn't follow. For example, Dana agrees to go to a big society soiree with Gar...more

And then there were four. After the three Titan sisters, it was of course Dana's turn to fall in love. On the whole this was good, although a bit repetitive in parts, with the same hand-wringing and soul searching going on. Bit of a promise of unpredictability when Jed finally is confronted with Kathy (I'm trying to avoid a spoiler here) but nothing much comes of it after all. I enjoyed reading the series, but not much more than I'd enjoy a bowl of popcorn.

Hot On Her Heels is the 4th book in Susan Mallery's Lone Star Sisters series and probably the best. Of all the 4 main female lead characters (over those 4 books), Dana (the deputy sheriff & family fried) is by far the most likeable. She's not one of the Titan sisters, she's the best friend the sisters grew up with. She's the only one who didn't grow up "a rich girl". She has a strong & believable personality. I enjoyed her relationship with Garth.

It's a tie between Garth and Dana's story and Izzy and Nick's story as my favorites in the Lone Star Series. I was upset with Garth in Straight from the Hip because of what he did to Nick and Izzy, but he redeemed himself in Hot on her Heels. I found myself rooting for him and feeling sympathy for his situation. Izzy was great in her determination to bring Garth into the family, which was very admirable after his behavior in the beginning. Absolutely worth the read.

This was the 4th book of the Titan sisters series. I am glad that they did a book about Garth and Dana but it was my least favorite of the whole series. Garth goes from being a "bad" guy to being a "good" guy in 2 pages and near the beginning of the book. Its a hard switch since he has been "bad" for the last 3 books. I'm looking forward to Mallery's new series coming out my May with Faking Perfect.
