After seeing several rave reviews and recommendations online, I read Virgin River by Robyn Carr - my first read by her and I loved it. Being the obsessed reader that I am, I felt I had to stop and read the Grace Valley Trilogy before continuing with the Virgin River series. These 2 sets of books are loosely related in that some of the characters are mentioned as friends of each other later on. So here I am just having finished reading Deep In The Valley Oh. My. God! I loved it so much! This book...more
Having read all the Virgin River books, I am now reading my way through the Grace Valley trilogy by the amazing Robyn Carr. Deep in the Valley begins the series with a cast of interesting characters in the small community of Grace Valley, a fictional Northern California town.
Dr. June Hudson, a thirty-seven-year-old and daughter of Elmer Hudson, the town’s recently retired doctor, has taken over the practice. She is dedicated to the community and her profession but has concerns about her spinster...more

I was reading Virgin River, my first Robyn Carr book that was voted highly (2 votes) on a sparsely voted on listopia. Started the book. Absolutely love it so far (I think we have a 5 starer coming up!). What a delightful suprise Robyn Carr has turned out to be.
In Virgin River the main characters visit with June and Jim and June tells a detailed version of how she and Jim get together. So I read it thinking "wait a minute, there is too much detail here. June has got to have her own book." Her own...more

So, what does a woman who has a huge stack of review book sitting in her room do on a long weekend? Why go to the bookstore, of course. If you look at my archives for this summer you'll note that I read Robyn Carr's Virgin River books. I enjoyed them, but like many series, but they end the books spent so much time catching you up with old characters that the story line was, in my opinion, somewhat diluted in the later books. At the bookstore I found Deep in the Valley (Grace Valley Trilogy) whic...more
Deep in the Valley is the first book in Robyn Carr's Grace Valley Trilogy. This book is billed as a romance, but there's very little romance to be found here. I chose to read this book because I love Robyn Carr's Virgin River series and we meet many of the characters from Grace Valley in that series.
Deep in the Valley centers around Dr. June Hudson and the daily lives of the citizens in Grace Valley, CA. This is a small town of approximately 1500 people, and I think Robyn Carr introduces us to...more

My daughter returned my Grace Valley series to me recently and I didn't have the heart to return them to the shelf before reading them again. Reading them again for the 3rd time I think! Robyn Carr is one of the best writers who can write about a fictional town and capture the essence of a small time feel with real people's lives, loves, hopes and trouble. I love the main character of June Hudson and all the other people of the town Grace Valley. Her search for a new OBGYN brings in the Stone fa...more
Going back 9 years (that's publishing years) we see the village of Grace Valley, the over-the-mountains neighbor to Virgin River. I ordered the Grace Valley trilogy on line when I ran out of Virgin River books. The anchor character is Dr. June Hudson, later to become the good friend of Mel, midwife of Virgin River. Here June is looking for a partner in her father-daughter medical clinic, and thinks Dr. John Stone may be too good to be true. On the other hand, she almost instantly trusts Jim, who...more
My bag is packed and I'm ready to head straight to Grace Valley. I was excited to start a new series by an author I had little knowledge of. I was thrilled with the result.
Robyn Carr has gifted to us a wonderful small town with plenty of small town drama. We are introduced to June Hudson, small town doctor, who has assumed the role from her father, Doc Hudson. We are immediately introduced to the chaos that is the life of a small town doctor ... not all of us can run for the phone after a showe...more

This is the first book in a trilogy written by the author. From what I can see in the storyline it's sort of a precursor to the Virgin River series that the author writes. We are introduced to a peaceful valley town and a young woman doctor who has taken over her father's practice. Her father still sees patients but she is looking for a partner as the practice is expanding. We are introduced to the colorful characters who belong to the town; as well as the new doctor coming into the practice. We...more
This was my first Robyn Carr book so I am glad I started reading the first book in the Grace Valley Trilogy. I found the book charming. I loved the comradery of all the inhabitants of the valley. It showed the closeness of small town folk. Some of the characters were more likeable than others. I did have issues with remembering who was who since there were so many characters. I found myself writing a list of who they were as they got introduced into the story. It definitely came in handy since I...more
There are few secrets in Grace Valley. Robyn Carr goes so far as to make a lovely tension out of trying to keep the love story a secret here, attempting to outwit the gossip. But the gossip and the grapevine prevail - to such an extent that this very failing of the townsfolk almost causes a catastrophe. It certainly contributes. How they respond to that catastrophe is a measure of how caring the townsfolk really are. The love story in this tale is peripheral but the characters, the joys, and the...more
This is Book #1 of THE GRACE VALLEY TRILOGY. I enjoyed the story that takes place in a very small town. Everyone knows everyone, including the secrets, stories and all. The main character is a female doctor who has a practice in the small town. Her father was the original doctor but is retired....most of the time. As the town gets bigger, the secrets and the problems get bigger as well. There are many characters in this story and the reader learns about all of them. I will certainly be looking fo...more

Why I read this book: I read this book for more than one reason. First, I enjoyed reading all of Robyn Carr's Virgin River series and wanted to learn more about Grace Valley. Second, my online book club chose to do this book as a buddy read.

I really love the Virgin River series, so I have been wanting to try this one as I have seen some of these characters in those books. I wonder though if I went into these books with too high expectations. While overall I did like this book it just didn't have the greatness of VR.
One of my big issues with this book was that so much happened in this book. Granted the book did take place over a few months, but in such a little town I have to really wonder how so many different events happened. I al...more

This is ultimate fluff. It's perfect for a grandmother who wants to pass the time between crocheting afghans and petting her cat. It's safe and so sweet your teeth will hurt. I'm sure in some part I was supposed to cheer, but I'm too "POLICE BRUTALITY" to do so, even if the guy DID deserve an asp in the kneecaps.
I guess that's fiction.

Sometimes I'm a little surprised at home much I enjoy Robyn Carr's books - from a romance reader standpoint. But this book just sucked me in and I couldn't put it down. Carr really knows how to tell a story.
Series Note:

If I wanna be honest about this book, I can say I was tired of all that explanation about characters. I'm not against the power of story-telling of Robyn Carr but I think, it was too excessive at some point and you felt that you have already read what she has said before. Perhaps,I was used to read the books that wrap up the whole story not with focused details. Hence, talking about the story and the way June Hudson hid his lover from all nosy people of Grace Valley was thrilling and full of exc...more
What a sweet story about a small town doctor and all the excentric citizens who are her friends and patients. Also includes the beginning of her covert romance with an undercover DEA agent. The book is not earth shattering but I couldn't put it down because the characters are so interesting, from the native american police chief, to the excentric/trouble maker 80 yr old aunt, the "retired" doctor who is also her father + many more.
This is the first in the Grace Valley trilogy. I had read the Virgin River series and loved them, and this one did not disappoint me. I can't wait to start reading the next one. These are very easy reads.
Wouldn't it be nice if there really were communities that stood together to help there own. Robyn Carr does a fantastic job of portraying what community should be and creates characters that are memorable. Can't wait to visit Grace Valley again.

Robyn Carr has an uncanny ability to mix "issues" into small-town romance without coming off like a jerk. I was pleased with her focus on domestic violence and the interplay between men and women in a community and how the small-town minding of everyone else's business shouldn't stop for domestic matters. Also the treatment of post-Vietnam mental health issues? These topics interspersed into fun reading make a happy social worker!

Having read all of Robyn Carr's Virgin River books to date, I thought I would go back to catch up on the Grace Vally series that introduced some of the secondary characters I met in the early VR books. I did like the way the romance played in the background while all of the characters and the town were introduced. Will put next two in this series on my library reserve list.

I like Robyn Carr, this is the second series of hers I've read. I would have liked to give this three stars but couldn't make it happen. Love the community, I think of all the books of read her idea of community appeals to me the most and she does a great job with the characters. However this was very not a very climatic book. I'm hoping the next two will not be as slow. Still enjoyed it though.
Very detailed book that is the beginning of this series that has a real good explanation of each character and starts building the background for the town, characters, and situations. It is similar, but yet different, than the Virgin River Series and some of these characters are mentioned and intertwined with the Virgin River Series. Very good book - can't wait to reach the rest of the trilogy.

The pre-quel series to Virgin River. This has Robyn Carr's characteristic writing style, an ensemble cast of good and bad small town characters and an interesting secret romance between the town's doctor and an undercover federal agent. Despite the close-door love scene which I am not a fan of, I do enjoy these home town romances of Robyn Carr's and look forward to continuing the trilogy.
Although the book started out kind of slow for me, it gained my interest quick enough and I had to know what was behind all the craziness happening in the small town. I got confused often b/c there are so many characters and I don't get why it is listed as a romance novel b/c there isn't much at all! I am happy with the ending though and look forward to reading the rest of the series.
This is the first in a tirology about a fictous town called Grace Valley, Ca. The Main character is June Hudson who is the town doctor. She grew up there as the daughter of the town doctor. The book tells the story of June and the other citizens of Grace Valley. It kept my interest through the book and I stayed up late to see how it would end. The only issue I had was with the amount of characters there are. Sometimes I had trouble keeping them straight. But, other than that it was a fun read an...more
