I read a decent enough review of this from someone I trust to make me think that I should give it a try, so when the author approached me about reviewing, I agreed even though I've been trying to stay away from self-published/vanity press/etc works. And I hate to do this, I really do, because I think there is heart in this book. But this is one of the most fractured, stilted, didactic pieces of something I have read in some time. Mary-Anne Grosse Ivie has written a wonderful quick read, "the faerie folk and she- a tale of friendship and love". I originally thought this story was for children, but as I read, I realized that this story is for everyone and that everyone should read it.

Alas, if you're looking for something spicy or adult in nature, you won't find it here. This is a wholesome fairytale; Mary-Anne nudges you back to your childhood page by page with the telling of the story. I won't spoil the book for you, but...more

The Fairy Folk and She is author Mary-Anne Grosse Ivie's first book. The tale begins:
Once upon a time there was an old woman who lived in a shoe, she had so many children she didn't know what to do...
From there Mary-Anne tells an original and imaginative tale. The old woman is unable to care for all her children so she turns to the Razzlewitch for help. Her oldest daughter Lisa agrees to live as Razzlewitch's servant to save her family from starvation.

What follows is a coming of age story as Li...more

When she enters Tranquility through the Black pool in the cave of the Petrified Forest she is spell bounded. Razzlewitch is not how she thought her to be nor is Tranquility where she encounters creature she earlier thought only existed in fairy tales. It soon becomes clear to the fairy folk and Lisa that her coming was no coincidence, it was meant to be. Lisa has to play an impo...more
JG (The Introverted Reader)
The old woman who lives in a shoe is overwhelmed. Her children are hungry. She decides to pay a visit to Razzlewitch and ask for help. Razzlewitch agrees to help in exchange for the old woman's oldest daughter, Lisa. If Lisa will come cook and clean for Razzlewitch, the other children will be fed and clothed. Lisa agrees but wonders what she's gotten into when she finds herself in a strange new world.

This was a lovely little fairy tale. It starts with the old woman woman who lived in a shoe, but...more
