I am in complete love with Rachel's Low Country Romance series. These novels are calm yet romantically tense. The characters are real and quirky and the heroes are heart beating hunks on the page. I thoroughly enjoyed Sweet Caroline, and Love Starts with Elle remains one of my favorite contemporary Christian romances to this day and ending with "Dining with Joy" I'm a content reader.

Disclaimer- due to the high number of arcs I've gotten recently I passed this out to a trusted coworker to read. I received it at a romance conference and it wasn't the type of book I'd normally read. So on to the review!
Unfortunately, this one didn't pass muster. It had difficulty holding the reader's attention. The reader couldn't get attached to the characters or writing. It also had the main characters getting "caught up in the moment" and kissing pretty much right after they met and on tv i...more

Once in a while, a book comes along that you know would make a good family movie. This is one of those books. In the first chapter, you learn that 'something' happened on a promotional trip to Omaha. In the second, you learn what that 'something' was. The way it was written, I could picture immediately the opening teaser of the movie: cooking show host Joy Ballard reacting badly to a surprise cook-off with her rival.

This is the first book I've read by Rachel Hauck that I didn't simply fall in love with. A cooking show host who can't cook and resorts to cheap gimmicks to keep from being discovered? Hasn't that storyline been done already?

I found the book a little slow in the beginning but it picked up gradually. The characters were fairly well developed. They had their positives and their negatives just like any other person. I was a little disappointed with some of Joy's self-centeredness. I believe she should have revealed the truth to Allison before things got to where they did. I believe having things be revealed the way they had did not do her credit as a Christian witness to the faith. The whole situation made me just crin...more
This was an absolutely delightful book! Set in Beaufort, SC, my home state and where I've lived nearly all my life, it abounds with everything you'd want in a Christian novel. The characters learn to depend on God for everything and to show them the way in their problems. Joy is a cooking show host who, strangely enough, can't cook. Doesn't even have a clue and every effort to do so ends in disaster. She is joined on that show by co host Luke Redmond who is not only a fabulous cook but handsome...more
Joy is the host of Dining with Joy. She got the gig when her she was working as associate producer on her father’s cooking show, Dining with Charles. When her father passed away the show became Dining with Joy. Dining with Joy has started to become wildly popular. The network TruReality has picked up the show for another season. There is just one problem…Joy can’t cook!

Joy, who is the host of a TV show called Dining with Joy, can not cook. I mean she can not cook, she can not make toast, boil water, nothing.
She has her staff sworn to not say anything - well as you can image this book is about how everyone finds out and the consquences of that.
I enjoyed this book, there was a little dragging right after the middle but I got sucked back in and enjoyed it.

I LOVED this book. Not only is it a great and realistic story line, the messages in this book are outstanding. This is a Christian book, appropriate for anyone to read.

I picked this book because a cooking show host that couldn't cook really appealed to me. This book started out slow to me. It took me a little more than 100 pages before I was drawn into the story. The story is focused around Joy Ballard. She is a celebrity host of a well know cooking show. Joy took over hosting after her father died suddenly. Joy has mixed emotions over her masquerade as a cook. So many people depend on her for their livelihood that I could sympathize with her character. This b...more
The premise for Dining with Joy is cute and a little far-fetched. Joy can't cook and, after her father's sudden death, took over his cooking show out of obligation. Rather than learning to cook, she perpetuates the myth that she's a celebrity chef with help from her staff, family and friends. When her show is sold to a new producer, her secret is threatened. However, she doesn't voluntarily confess to anyone, yet she professes belief in God.

Joy is the bubbly and popular host of a cooking show called "Dining With Joy". But what her fans don't know is that in real-life, she cannot cook. When her show is sold to a new network, she struggles with whether she should spill the beans to her new producer or not. When chef Luke Redmond is brought in to add a bit of spice to the show, Joy hopes he will save her bacon, so to speak. As they begin to feel a strong attraction to each other, they also try to keep Joy's secret from ending their sh...more
Let me say right off that I LOVED this book! It will certainly not be the last one I read by the fantastic story teller, Rachel Hauck.
The characters of Joy and Luke (along with the minors) are filled with depth and flaws, humor and charm that stand to life on the page. The story is well told with word pictures abounding in a manner sure to grab your attention and refuse to let go. This is the kind of book that when you have to put it down, you want to go back to it immediately.

The title and cover are so cheesy, and even the synopsis sounded lame, but I read it because I really liked the other two lowcountry romances. I love Rachel Hauck's characters--some are realistic, some are eccentric, but they're all so likeable. And I'm in love with her setting, so I read this one despite its first impression. And it was like the other two--sweet romance (though with some strangeness this time), great characters and dialogue. The only thing that bothers me is the plethora of phr...more
I just did not care for this one :( and I LOVED the other books in this series. I just never saw a true relationship between Luke and Joy. It was just lust and all about kissing. The first kiss on TV and then the 2nd kiss on TV again was just too much. I rolled my eyes. It was just an unbelievable relationship. The kicker for me was when Luke actually got MAD at Joy during her worst moment when all along he KNEW the secret and decided to play along. Why was HE mad?? After 4 books in the row by t...more
Meet Joy, a cooking show host who can't cook. I know, what is that about. Her father was a amazing cook and died suddenly after just getting the show popular. Joy takes it over to make her dad happy. She tries to bring a new fresh and comedic way to the cooking show. It works for awhile, but her secret is eating away at her. Here she is, almost 30 and living a lie. She has no husband ( or prospects), no children, and no passion. Enter Luke, a handsome chef who is hired on to co-host the 4th seas...more

This is my favourite book yet from Rachel Hauck! Not that I didn't love her other books (because they are all FANTASTIC), but this book was so unique and delectable that I just could not put it down. Like with all delicious things you want "just one more bite," and in this case it was "just one more page!"
This story leaped off the page and played out in my imagination like a movie. The exquisite attention to detail appealed to every one...more

I had a realization when I was reading this book: I like foodie books. I don't mean books about food like cookbooks or anything that talks about food. I mean fiction with food as one of its major elements. I've read two in the past year ( The Crepe Makers' Bond and Always the Baker, Never the Bride ) and although I was pretty lukewarm about them, I enjoyed the cooking aspect of both books and how food played a part in the story.

Dining With Joy is the third in Rachel's Low Country series. The first two being, Sweet Caroline and Love Starts With Elle. First of all, I have to comment on the covers of all three of these books. They are very attractive and creative! I love them! I have older cover versions of the first two and may have to go get the newer versions just so I have all three matching books, :-)

Such a well-written contemporary inspirational romance, but I had a really hard time getting over the premise. I just don't care for the heroine who lies to everyone even when she has a very good reason. And this book did handle that well--I liked Joy and Luke. Great chemistry, great couple. The lowcountry slang also was a big plus, and the realistic, colorful characters added to the overall tone. This is an entertaining read by a very talented author--if you don't mind the deception factor.
I wasn't surprised at how much I enjoyed this story after having read so many rave reviews. Dining with Joy is a wonderful story that will appeal to both readers of Christian fiction and foodies alike. It's not only a romance but a story of a woman discovering what God wants for her and having the courage to pursue it!

I've always liked watching Food Network shows, so the plot summary of this book is what caught my eye. I don't read a lot of contemporaries, but "Dining with Joy" was pretty good. From reading the other "Lowcountry Romance" summaries, some main characters from those novels show up, and while it made me curious, it didn't take away too much for someone like me reading "Dining with Joy" like a stand-alone.
It was really nice to read a book with a great story but without swearing and sex. The romance was still there but it wasn't the whole story. The storyline was intense in that you knew that Joy was going to get caught (she couldn't cook) but you never really knew when it was going to happen. This seems to be book #3 of the Lowcountry series by Rachel Hauck. I will be looking for the other two in the future.
This book was pretty good. I'd probably go more of 2.5 stars. I just didn't end up caring much for Joy. She gave me a headache through about 85% of the book. Self absorbed and a little on the obnoxious side- I just didn't like her. And I didn't feel the chemistry between her and Luke. Just didn't work for me.
The other characters were more interesting and entertaining than the two main ones...

Fun romance with the main character being a TV food show host (so it played to my love of the Food Network!) and the locale was LowCountry (My favorite vacation spot). Lots of twists and turns kept me reading way past bedtime, but the ending was predictable. Christian fiction, so you won't blush as you read the book. Looking forward to reading more books by Rachel Hauck.
The third novel in the low country series, Dining with Joy, takes you right back to Beaufort, SC, a fantastic place! Rachel Hauck inspires me like no other author. Her characters are to be admired; they are charming, loving, Christian, generous people and in a world that lacks those characters in main stream media, they are refreshing. The marriages, and really all relationships in her novels, are ideal and are a great example of how a couple should engage with another, with Jesus and God in the...more
