I'm a fan of the Artemis Foul books. I've listened to them all. Quite entertaining. If for no other reason than they're read by an Irishman. So, I figured I'd take a listen at another one of Colfer's books. Half-Moon Investigations is a solid book that spoke (no pun intended) to me personally.

As with the Artemis books, you've got a pre-teen boy that tries his very best to be as independent as possible, has a higher than average IQ, is witty, clever, and finds trouble around every bend. As the bo...more

I knew when smoky jazz filled the car that I was in for trouble, and I was right. I had to leave ten minutes early for everything because I just had to finish the chapter. The combination of Eoin Colfer's dime-store humor and Sean Patrick Reilly's melodramatic brogue makes me believe I have entered the world of a P.I.

The characters are just wonderful, falling into mystery novel stereotypes while still managing to surprise you at every turn. The plot is engaging, the dialogue is entertaining, an...more

I was an Eoin Colfer fan for quite a while before I stumbled upon Half Moon Investigations, so when I did come across it, I wasted no time in seizing it. And to say that it did not disappoint would be an understatement.

Protagonist Fletcher Moon is a sarcastic twelve-year-old private detective who finds it hard to be taken seriously despite the fact that he has a legitimate degree from a prestigious detective school. His first real client is April Devereaux, the ringleader of Les Jeunes Etudiante...more

From the author of the Artemis Fowl Artemis Fowl (Artemis Fowl, #1) series comes Half-Moon Investigations, a great combo of realistic fiction and mystery. Fletcher Moon isn't an athlete or a nerd, he's a detective! Fletcher (known as Half Moon for his stature) is an accredited private investigator from the Bob Bernstein internet class, complete with silver-plated badge. But when the Sharkeys, two boys that are only known for theft, are accused of going one heist too far, it’s up to Half Moon to uncover the conspiracy behind...more

I've decided I'm pretty stingy with my stars because I loved this book but it only gets four.

1 star=I'm sorry I read this book. It was worthless to me.
2 stars=I know there is value to this book. It's probably a classic, but it didn't have a happy ending, so...
3 stars=It's a fine book.
4 stars=I really enjoyed this book. I might even be interested in reading it again sometime.
To get 5 stars, a book has to change me. It becomes a part of who I am.

So, that said, this book made me laugh out loud. I l...more

Half Moon Investigations

The book I read was by Eoin Colfer, it was called Half Moon Investigations. This book was about a kid named Half Moon he just wanted to be a detective. He is hired to find a missing lock of a pop-stars hair that is believed to have been stolen. This was his first real case where he gets paid. He was very excited about this. But he is being paid but in the process he actually uncovers a larger mystery, kids all around town are missing their things. He sets ou...more

Fletcher "Half" Moon is a twelve-year-old private detective who has graduated from an online detective class by Bob Bernstein, PI. He goes to a school called St. Jerome's, where Red, Genie, and Herod Sharkey also go. They're part of the Sharkeys, a family of thieves and criminals, led by Papa Sharkey. They all have reputations for stealing and bullying, and no one trusts them.

Half Moon is hired by April Devereux, leader of a clique of pink-obsessed girls, to find a stolen lock of a popstar's ha...more

Jetzt ist Fletcher...more

Technically I think this is juvenile fiction, geared more for the 9-13 year olds (think the Nancy Drew/Hardy Boys age range and genre). It’s set in Ireland and follows junior detective Fletcher Moon. Fletcher is a bright, if odd, boy who has honestly finished a correspondence degree to get a P.I. license (signing up using his dad’s birth certificate). Mostly he solves schoolyard crimes. This often brings him into conflict with Herod “Roddy” Sharkey and his older brother Red. The Sharkeys are wel...more

Great book. An aspiring detective tries to detect-ify his way through what at first seems like a simple juvenile crime, but turns out to be a chain of... course, I won't give away the ending for you.
I already liked Colfer for the Artemis Fowl series when I first read this book in the 7th grade, and this just reinforced my opinion. Colfer manages to pull off a great mystery and quite a good interpersonal relations tale from a (junior?) high school perspective. A few other YA mystery novels I've r...more

My name is Moon. Fletcher Moon. And I'm a private detective. In my twelve years on this spinning ball we call Earth, I've seen a lot of things normal people never see. I've seen lunch boxes stripped of everything except fruit. I've seen counterfeit homework networks that operated in five counties, and I've seen truckloads of candy taken from babies.

I thought I'd seen it all. I had paid so many visits to the gutter looking for lost valentines, that I thought nothing could shock me. After all, whe

Oh I loved this book! I listened to it on my ipod, read by a dude with an Irish accent (It takes place in Ireland.) I sincerely giggled in several parts. Fletcher Moon takes an online course to become a detective. Since he is only 12, he had to “borrow” his dad’s ID to actually receive his official private detective license.

He solves crimes in the playground, mostly for chocolate. But he finally gets a “real” case for 10 Euros. As he gets caught up in the case, he is helped by an unlikely guy…...more

Eoin Colfer’s established his unique voice that melds a razor sharp wit, likeable villains, and just-in-time plot twists, and brilliant kids in his bestselling series Artemis Fowl. With the book Half Moon Investigations, Colfer offers nothing less than this distinctive voice in classic noir style. Twelve-year-old Fletcher Moon, who suffers the nickname "Half Moon" because of his small stature and nerdly ways, helps solve crimes for classmates and others in his Irish town. Things sta...more

I was looking for some light-hearted stuff to read after a huge dose of books with lots of serial killers and blood. From Eoin Colfer's other books I have read (love the Artemis Fowl series), I knew I wasn't going to get disappointed. And boy, did this book deliver or what.

This is a story of 12-year old detective, who thinks he has seen all the cases a school playground can throw at him. But then, his own boasts about being a detective get him involved in a case against the biggest criminals in...more

Fletcher moon is an average, except the fact that he's a certified undercover detective. He graduated at the top of his internet class, and now, he solves mysteries for his school buddies which ggives him some extra pay, and a little popularity. When a crime occurs that involves the most guilty party in town, the sharkeys, and his prized detetcive badge, its not just a mystery for flectcher, it gets personal. Not only is this a serious book about mysteries and what not, its also about true frien...more

HALF MOON INVESTIGATIONS is sort of a mystery. The main character Fletcher (Half Moon) Moon is accused of arson. He escapes from the police and with the help of the notorious Sharkey family has to figure out who really did it. Fletcher’s main internal conflict trying to solve the mystery by any means possible. That means even breaking the law to find the real criminal. His main external conflict is not being caught by the police.

Through the book I noticed that Fletcher was an extremely good det...more

The book read as it should for say an... eleven-year-old. There were no difficult phrases full of prose or metaphor and each page had about five words, so it went by almost too quickly. It was also very innocent and true to that age, not crass in any way. However, the witty and often dry humor actually made me laugh out loud at different parts.

The main character is kind of a nerd, but you've got to love his sleuthing. He's just too wise for his age. He dislikes that people don't take his detecti...more

This is a fairly high 3 star book for me. I think I just like Eoin Colfer's characters and storytelling.

This is about a smart middle school kid who dreams of being (and already considers himself) a detective. He's not a popular kid, an outcast because of his obsession with being a detective. Because of this obsession, this story is written like an overly dramatic 40's-50's detective drama. I found it really entertaining and funny, but I could also see how someone might find it dumb. I liked it,...more

Pretty cute. Obviously targeted for people much younger than my old ass, which I wish I'd known before I got started on the thing, but what are you gonna do. I liked Colfer's continuation of the Hitchhiker's Trilogy well enough, so I figured I'd give this a shot. Fletcher is a pretty likable and funny protagonist even if he clearly fits into the "Calvin was never intended to be a literal six-year-old" mold of child characters. And I'll admit that this is the rare mystery where I couldn't guess t...more

Fletcher Moon, the world's youngest detective, feels as if he might possibly be in over his head when he lands in the hospital after an ambush in his garden. He's in the middle of an investigation of a rash of property thefts(seemingly disconnected, but he knows there's got to be a link), but now the police think he is a suspect in an arson case. Fletcher is unexpectedly rescued by the unlikeliest of people: Red Sharkey, whose family is always on the wrong side of the law. As the two kids go on...more

This was my first foray into audiobooks. I was mostly listening to it to have some variety in my children's literature portfolio. It was funny, and I especially thought the way the guy did the voice for the girly characters was hilarious, since he also had this Scottish brogue thing going on, but I kept forgetting what had been happening, and turning my car off mid-sentence didn't help either. So I listened enough to get an idea of what it was like to listen to an audiobook and then moved on wit...more

Fletcher (Half-Moon) Moon is 12 and is a full-fledged detective. He graduated top of his Internet class and is the world's youngest detective. When April Devereux, a 10-year-old vision in pink, hires him to investigate some petty thefts, and other minor infractions of the law, Fletcher soon realizes he is a little over his head. He is attacked and left bruised and broken. He wakes up in the hospital, with a splitting headache, a purple face and a mashed-up arm.

On the other end of the law-abidin...more

Half Moon Investigations:
A Seventh Grader Framed for a Crime

What would you do if you were framed for a crime you didn’t commit? Well that is what happens to Fletcher Moon, Red Sharkey, and many others in Eoin Colfer’s Half Moon Investigations, a very good book that I think deserves four out of five stars. The action starts when Fletcher is lured into an ambush outside his house in the dead of night. Fletcher, who recently received his detective’s badge (in seventh grade), unearths evidence that...more

Braden was required to read this for class. He was almost to the end and had no idea what the main theme was because he couldn't get into it. I worried his grade would reflect that and sat down with him and the book on Saturday. It is a really cute mystery that keeps you guessing until the end. There were even some great sarcastic comments that kept us laughing. However, I was disappointed in the amount of times the Lord's name was taken in vain. I hate when authors put that stuff in books that...more

The book was cute. I'd give it 3.5 stars. I don't know that it was as good as the other books--it wasn't as engaging. It didn't have the happy-go-lucky ending I'm fond of, but it did end on a positive note. Overall pretty good.

Half Moon Investigations is a mystery fiction novel. It is about a boy named Fletcher Moon. He is the youngest detective in the world. Fletcher AKA Half-Moon is a 7th grader at Saint Jerome's elementary and middle school. The main conflict is that various amount of people in his school are getting their stuff stolen from them. People always point their fingers at the most high rated crime family the Sharkeys. Is it them or not.

I liked this book a lot. I liked it because I really like mysteries an...more

When I had found this book on tape in the adult section of the library I had thought, "Oh my gosh! This is going to be great! It'll be just like the books mom and I listen to in the car on long drives."

It wasn't even close.

Firstly, the unabridged production was about a grade schooler. For me, that didn't scream "Adult Section" but I figured it might progress on and he might grow up!

I was wrong.

The mystery was so juvenile. There was no murder mystery- like it had hinted at on the back- and it w...more
