I hate to admit it. I really do. Shame on me but I liked this romance. I enjoyed it years ago and I still did on a reread.

It was cheesy, had a fair amount of purple prose and a cat. A man-cat. A manly-man alpha cat.

I read this series when it was first published (1990s). Even though I don't remember anything exciting with the first two stories -except #1 was a sort-of cliffhanger and you needed book 2-, this one stuck with me.

The initial meeting between the H/h was insta-___. Let's just say '

OK, I want a Gian Ren too! He's the king of all Familiars, beings who can take the form of both a cat and a human. Familiars are also intensely sensual and sexual (picture me fanning myself about now). Jenise needs to escape from her evil uncle who plans to wed her and become king by taking her virginity. When she hears he captured a familiar, she decides to rid herself of her virginity using the captive. Gian recognizes Jenise as his mate and refuses to leave her behind. Last week, I re-read all 3 of the Matrix books published by Dorchester. I haven't been able to read them for some time (I was one of those who got caught in the author's mismanagement of her self-publishing scheme years ago) but I used to love these three books. I was glad to revisit them and be reminded of how much I enjoyed the stories. They're They have sensuality, a sense of humor and fun, and were unique in their world building (even despite some of the derivative elements). It' ...more

A man to make a woman purr in more ways than one…

The whole premise of an otherwordly galaxy, of Familiars, Charls, and such were very interesting – the introduction of Gian Ren in the first chapter was sure to hook the reader head on. Case in point:

“He tossed his hair back and viewed her through half-lowered eyes. The eyes of the ultimate pursuer. Secretive, disciplined, and sexual. His voice was a low, rumbling purr…”

In fact, Gian unapologetically dominates the love story, with his obvious mag

3-1/2 star rating, really.

I didn't get from the summary that this was a mystical story; I'm not usually drawn to those as such. But I enjoyed this very much.

On the positive side, the characters were intriguing. They, especially Gian, could have come off as cartoonish, but the author used a very light hand, and the elements of the story that could have come off as annoying, such as Familiars such as Gian being so sensory-based, worked here.

For the most part.

I could buy that his senses and his ab

I love this !!!!!!!!!!!!!

This is the fourth romance I read way back when I was a teenager in mid 2004.

This romance is for anyone for loves cats or fantasy novels.
This is quite a long novel and it is worth reading.

I visited this book in Feb and the review is long overdue.
This book broke a fewrules for its time, although it atill followed many of the tropes. This book came out in 1998.

My romance reading friends , do you all remember how the novels were back then?

Of course a virgin and an alp

Whew! Okay. This book is actually listed inside the books, as the 2nd book in the series. I read it out of sequence by mistake, but was still able to follow the story.

I can't believe I never heard of these books before.. This one is a very sensual, erotic, romantic, & suspenseful story. Which has an interesting and refreshing take on shifters and their world. It has a bit of a futuristic/sci-fi tone, but not too much. I really liked this one. And all of the characters were well written. It i
Familiars are known for their sexual techniques and appetites. Pleasure is their goal to give many times and then to get. When one of them is captured to be used and then sold for slavery, an unlikely match is made. He escapes with the young princess traveling across world and facing many dangers, while trying to teach her enjoyment.
A fun, enjoyable read that is sure to bring pleasure and tingles to the body.
The third book in the Matrix of Destiny series by Dara Joy. Gian Ren is captured, drugged and chained to a wall. When Jenise is confronted by her stepfather's brother, Karpon, she knows she needs to escape. So she foils Karpon's diabolical plan and helps Gian Ren escape and escapes with him.

Another fun, humorous, and entertaining addition to the series. There were a few unanswered questions regarding other characters at the end but I still liked it.

3.5 stars. Ok, the explanation behind the cover is this: our h's mother's consort has died, his brother wants the crown. However, apparently the people like the h better so he's decided he must remove the competition. Since she must be a maiden in order to take the crown (that she does not want), he figures by siccing a Familiar on her, he can have her discredited *and* keep her as his ho. There's only a few issues with this. 1) the H isn't just *any* familiar; he's the KING of familiars so the ...more
This is the first one I read in this series or by this author and I don't think it suffered much the first 1/2 from a lack of knowledge. The second 1/2, all the characters seem to be explained pretty well. I liked the support characters quite a bit and realized that there were some set up for future books with some of the support characters, only,... she stopped writing the series for over 10 years and the new books aren't about those characters I came to like.
So Janise is afraid of any commitm

Again, I must confess I started this series with the third book. I really don't know what is with me. I seem to always pick up the third book first. I also must add that this was one of the very first romance novels I ever read, which is why I decided to reread the series.

Gian Ren is H-O-T! Yup, that pretty much sums him up. He is a king amongst the familiars, beings that can take the form of a cat and who are extremely sensual. He has been captured, drugged, and is hanging by chains in a nasty

When you've read many novel, only few sticks to your memory. For me, this is one of the few. (Actually matrix of destiny series sticks to my memory. Simply because, they are science fiction romance that doesn't lose their romance taste). I've just read it the second time, and now it is branded to my brain.

We have Gian Ren, a cat shapeshifter, a Familiar. Which is unusual. And Jenise, a Frein. (Thank God, both have human form) Due to circumstance, they stick together to flee from evil plan. At fi

Great addition to the Matrix of Destiny series. Parts of the book will make more sense if you have read the first two books in the series, but there is a stand-alone story that is well told. Familiar Gian is rescued from the evil Karpon by Jenise after he agrees to an unorthodox bargain. In exchange for his release, he is to take her virginity. What familiar would turn down that arrangement? It quickly becomes more than a simple de-flowering when feelings and instinct become involved. With Karpo ...more

I really enjoyed this book. I really loved the characters and the premise. This is the 3rd book in a multiple book series. I need to get the other books in the series.

Even though this was the middle book in a series it could be a stand alone. There were just a very few characters that were mentioned from prior books and I want to read the rest of the books.

Gian Ren is the King of the Familiars. He has been captured in a foreign land and chained in a dungeon. Jenise is the throne princess of Gana
I really enjoyed this book and the author's imagination is fantastic! I thought it would be silly because of too much going on - an alien and a cat shifter - but it worked. Gian is a Familiar who finds himself captured on the planet of Ganicari. Jenise is a free-spirited Frensi who is horrified that her stepfather's brother is planning to marry her in order to have control of their planet. She strikes a deal with Gian - take her virginity and get her away from the planet and she'll help him esca ...more

I'm not a huge science fiction reader but I did enjoy Mine to Take, or shall I say I enjoyed Gian Ren?! He is absolutely yummy! Alien or not! Jenise is LUCKY! The remaining characters, Jenise, Traed, Yaniff, Rejar, Krue and Karpon were all interesting in their own right. I even liked the alien Gruntel! Can't say he was cute, but his gestures were cute. It takes a bit to get into this kind of story, but the age old act of finding one's mate translates in any genre. There were a lot of good quotes ...more

1st Sci-Fi world to me, its kind of unique experience traveling to other planet, a planet like in "Total Recall" movie by Arnold Schwarzenegger mixed with Avatar's Planet. The premise seems promising at the beginning, but not strong enough for me to continue till the end...

This 'on-the-run' romance will be much much better if more action from Karpon's army, and more dangerous side that confront during their run. It will be much more excited, imo.

Several love-scenes are hot, but a

I'm a bit disappointed. While this book was better than book 2 (Rejar), neither were as engaging as book 1. The book was enjoyable, it was just easy to put down. I liked Gian Ren. His character was very well developed, the plot interesting. His female counterpart though I felt was a little flat. I never really cared for her or knew anything about her other than she sought "freedom". But she never really even clarified what exactly she meant by that. I could have done without the Frensi dance dea ...more
Jenise is trying to escape from her uncle, who wants to mate and marry her so he can control her property. She escapes by rescuing Gain, (familiar cat shifter), giving him her maidenhead and transporting to a different planet. They have grand adventure trying to get to Gian's home. There are breaks from their adventure, where Rejar is revisited and his studies are explained. Gain was fun, he was flirty, brave and liked pleasing Jenise. Jenise was ok, she was afraid of commitment and didn't let o ...more

3.5 stars.

This was a great quick read. It was nothing like I expected and was pleasantly surprised at the depth of the story and setting. Much more than just a erotic romance novel.

Yes ladies, it has some hot and steamy sex scenes, but let’s be honest….after Fifty Shades of Grey every sex scene I read now just seems tame by comparison. Though I doubt readers will be disappointed in this novel :).

I truly enjoyed this book. Dara Joy did a wonderful job describing and showing the reader Gian Ren's personality as well as Jensie. I really liked her series Matrix of Destiny but I have to admit this is my favorite out of the four she wrote. The only SMALL and UNIMPORTANT concern I had about this book was that it shadowed Rejar's problems and to be honest, I didn't really care for Rejar's story. I also didn't like the fact that Gian Ren's child would not be king. Its great that Jensie and Gian ...more
If you ignore the unbearably stupid scenes with a Merlin clone & light sabers, this book is quite unique and entertaining. In order for a princess to avoid being married to her heinous stepfather, she decides to shed herself of her virginity by making a bargain with a captured part-feline being. In exchange for deflowering her as quickly as possible, she will let him free. What she doesn't count on is him kidnapping her to make sure his escape is total. This sequel to Rejar brings more SYFY romance to Dara Joy fans!
The hero is in the same bloodline as Rejar from a distant planet.
He travel thur the worm hole from his glaxay to our & uses his powers & charm to seduce a woman.
He thinks she is his prisoner but some find that he is hers for the taking.
Warning, this book is almost XXX, very hot & steamy.
You will want to keep it locked away for yourself.

This is a good story with engaging characters. I liked the way Gian and Jenise meshed so well together. Even though Jenise had misconceptions about what freedom really is, I liked that she didn't just try to bolt away from Gian (well, except for that one time) and that she was open to learning that she could be free and still mated to Gian.

Also enjoyed seeing so much of the characters from other books: Lorgan, Rejar and Yaniff (I was even okay with seeing Deanna/Adeanna again and she was not my
I really enjoyed this book, and still do despite that I've not really been into romance novels the last decade.

The Sci-fi/fantasy world building is really nicely done and visually appealing. The characters are enjoyable as is the overall storyline/progress despite the cliche 'soulmate' concept.

I haven't gotten around to reading the others in the series, but I'm not much interested in the dimension-hopping thing into historical Earth. I do like the idea of interconnected worlds, but maybe if it
