Everything Forbidden is not a terribly creative storyline, but that’s ok because the author made it work by giving us characters we could care about and believe in.

Her father having passed away and leaving the family in a precarious financial situation has made it difficult for the oldest daughter, Morgan Albright, to run the household and make ends meet. Everything Forbidden is not a terribly creative storyline, but that’s ok because the author made it work by giving us characters we could care about and believe in.

Her father having passed away and leaving the family in a precarious financial situation has made it difficult for the oldest daughter, Morgan Albright, to run the household and make ends meet. With a mother who seems to think money grows on trees, the family is quickly being sent to the poor house. In order to provide the needed funds to see her sisters through their Seasons, Morgan is forced to seek a sponsor for them.

Enter Ethan Hamon, Earl of Rothschild, Morgan’s neighbor. He is a man who thinks he can never marry because he sees himself like his father; a man who was unable – more likely unwilling, if you ask me - to be faithful to his wife. Ethan watched as his father’s behavior slowly drove his mother to succumb to depression and find her only solace in a bottle. While he vowed he would never do that to a woman, that didn’t stop him from enjoying the many sexual delights they had to offer.

Having witnessed – an been thrilled by – Ethan’s wickedly exciting exploits with women whom he enjoyed “picnicking” with by a lake between their properties, Morgan decided that maybe an arrangement could be made that would not only help her sisters have successful Seasons, but would fulfill Morgan’s own desire for what she had seen Ethan give to so many others - passion.

Everything Forbidden had such a sweet ending. I loved that Ethan finally realized how much Miranda had risked by coming to him and giving herself over to him. Once he did, he came to understand that to win her heart, he had to do the same.

It really was a beautiful, fairytale like ending and that’s part of the problem for me. It ended too quickly! It left me thinking, "wait, did I miss something? Is my book missing some pages?" Alas, it was not that at all, just an ending that came too abruptly. I really wish we could have had more of their relationship once their love had been proclaimed.

Maybe we’ll get to see more of the happiness in the next book which I am definitely going to read.

I think it's important to go into this book with no expectations and with the understanding that it's historical erotica. In saying that, while there were sex scenes aplenty (compared to other HR's), they weren't overly gratuitous or overbearing. It was quite deliciously done and SUCH a refreshing change to the average HR mating dance.

The sexual overtone didn't take anything away from the story in my opinion. While it wasn't as detailed or fleshed out as your average HR plotline, it made...more 5 stars.

I think it's important to go into this book with no expectations and with the understanding that it's historical erotica. In saying that, while there were sex scenes aplenty (compared to other HR's), they weren't overly gratuitous or overbearing. It was quite deliciously done and SUCH a refreshing change to the average HR mating dance.

Ethan (our heartthrobby hero) was so freakin' hot that his every action scorched off the pages, or as my case may be - my iphone screen. He knew what he wanted and unapologetically went for it while still being a caring enough sort (though he didn't realize it at the time) that gave him heart and kept him three-dimensional.

Miranda (our passionate heroine) was one of my favourite heroines in a long, long time. She didn't play games and while originally her actions were a protection of sorts for her family, she never fooled herself or us by concealing her true motivations. She was honest, sensible and allowed herself to feel with Ethan (it was fabulous!). And whilst she had a quiet, determined strength, she was also not afraid to allow herself vulnerability.

Miranda bit her lip. She wasn't going to become upset in front of him. A man like Ethan wouldn't want some hysterical woman sobbing in his parlor.
"Ethan," she whispered, hating how her voice broke just a little.
He hesitated before he slipped the last button into place. Slowly, his gaze lifted to hers and a flicker of heat stoked deep within his eyes. Dark and dangerous, but it gave her hope. He still wanted her.

And Ethan "best lay in England" Rothschild grew on me even more so as it became apparent that he was feeling more for Miranda than he initially wanted to:

He'd lost all semblance of control.
With difficulty, Ethan moved away from the window, determined not to stare like a lost puppy after Miranda's retreating form.

It was Friday.
Normally, the days of the week were meaningless to Ethan, especially in the country. But now, in short order, Friday had taken on a different meaning to him. It meant Miranda.

Swoooooon!

Anything I could change though? For it to be longer. Maybe add in a spark or two of jealousy somewhere *nudge nudge*. And for it to include an epilogue.

I truly loved Miranda. She was gutsy, and not afraid to go after what she wanted, namely Ethan, the Earl of Rothschild, the man she’s been secretly lusting after from afar. The bargain they strike is only temporary, but Miranda is dying to experience passion in Ethan’s arms, however fleeting. She willingly gives him her virginity, never realizing that she would also end up losing her heart.

Ethan is a man used to controlling his desires. Normally cool and dispassionate even while indulging in the pleasures of a woman’s body, he found that control quickly thrown out the window every single time he encountered Miranda. For Ethan, women had always been interchangeable, so when he finds himself wanting her, and not just the pleasure they experience together, needless to say, he’s a bit terrified.

He didn't want this need to be with her more than any other woman. He didn't want this…this strange caring about her welfare. And today he would regain control over his emotions and her body.

And so, he fights against his feelings and tries (unsuccessfully) to keep her at a healthy distance.

The sex scenes were very good, extremely sensual and tastefully done. Ethan had foreplay down to an art form. I loved that he had a bit of a dirty mouth and how he seduced Miranda slowly, building up her excitement (and mine!)

The ending was sigh-worthy, although I do wish we could’ve got a glimpse of their lives together as a happy couple. I guess I will need to read Penelope’s story for that. (less)

Erotic romance is a dessert I love to savory, and a true guilty pleasure of mine, more often then not, many Erotic romance fall short, but Jess Michaels’s Everything Forbidden hit the spot!

Miranda Albright has been trying to keep her family in some sort of means, as their father’s gambling and mounting debts have left them with not a lot, her mother still wanting to spend, spend, forces Miranda to come up with a plan to have her sister’s have their seasons and marry well in order for them to get out of debt, but her plan comes with many risks, and she could be making a deal with the devil full of passion: Ethan Hamon, the Earl of Rothschild. With Erotic romance I love to enjoy the sexual aspect, but more often then not I feel the need to reach of a bar of soap when things get “to” down and dirty with a major ick factor or become bored with the sex coming across as a medical show on Discovery channel. So am very picky when it comes to one of my greatest guilty pleasure. Everything Forbidden brings it all, great sex but also a great story between the two leads and *la gasp* a plot! Another thing many erotic novels lack under all the sex.

Both leads are wonderfully developed with each having their own scars but able to rise above them, with Miranda she’s had to be the glue to hold her family together after the death of her father, her mother has put her down and goes on spending money they don’t have. Instead of bowing down under the pressure, Miranda takes it in her own hands and ask for help, knowing in her heart of hearts she wasn’t going to come out unaffected by the deal she has with Ethan. Soon she falls in love with him, but in her soul she’s always held a love for him, when he opened her eyes to passion. Miranda is a strong lead and a woman she knows her own mind and body, and when she knows she must let go, she let’s go even when her heart is shattered into pieces. I was happy Miranda was able to gain not only her passion but the deep love she longed for from Ethan. Ethan’s past was scarred by his father’s many affairs and how it slowly broke his mother’s soul and heart making her turn to the bottle. Ethan father forces him to embrace sex saying it was in his blood, something he “had” to do. Ethan enjoys sex, because of the power it holds over his lovers, but as he’s able to lose himself in the act, while leaving him empty afterward. With Miranda he finds himself whole for the first time in his life, craving his body, heart and soul to this young woman. Ethan was a stunning hero, he was a sexy, but also had a vulnerability to him, when he shows his love to Miranda it brought tears to my eyes!
The secondary characters moved the story along, and while I didn’t care for any of Miranda’s sisters toward the end of the book, it did leave the book with a loose end for the next in the series.

Now let’s talk about the sex! Jess Michaels writes some great sex scenes in this book. At times making you feel like your taking a very hot bath and just as enjoyable. Ethan takes his time, drawing out each touch and taste, and the passion Miranda feels is written in a way that draws you even deeper into the scene. There is nothing on the heavy side of sex that many erotic novels “have” to have in them meaning no anal sex or bondage, but the sex makes you craving and wanting more, much like Ethan who draws out each encounter.

Overall: I greatly enjoyed every piece of this book, it ranked up there was some of the best erotic romance I’ve read in a long time, and just like a favorite dessert, leaves you wanting and craving more. (less)

Loved it! Wow - Albright really writes some amazing sex scenes - especially considering they were pretty vanilla. The plot isn't my favorite - two people engaging in something they expect to be temporary - but I really liked the characters, especially sweet Miranda and utterly dark & sexy Ethan.

4.5 stars. I took it off of the BDSM shelf. Although there is low end discussion about domination and submission within the context of the sexual relationship, it's very vanilla. Very steamy but otherwise light and fluffy historical romance. It is what I am coming to think of as typical of Jess Michaels fare, that is to say light but entertaining. I loved this book! I have never read anything before by Jess Michaels (pen name for Jenna Peterson), but I will definitely read more. Especially since this is book one of a series, The Albright Sisters.

Miranda Albright, a young girl, and oldest daughter living in the country in England is the voice of reason for her mother and younger sisters. After their father died leaving them penniless, Miranda took upon the responsibility of making sure her family was never homeless. Her mother, was an ridiculous extravagant woman, despite having no money, who only took pleasure constantly harping on every little thing her four daughters did. Miranda, as a younger girl used to spy on the notorious, Lord Eathan Rothschild every summer when he was in the country with his latest lover making love outdoors. He garnered this reputation of being one of the best, but careless lovers in England. Never allowing himself to come to care for a woman, other than for sex.

Miranda had always wanted not just, love but a very passion filled relationship with a man. She had refused several proposals for marriage on the lack of these characteristics and was shunned by society as being a spinster in the making. Her sisters needed to be launched into society to make suitable marriage matches, hopegully relieving their financial burdens as well, sought out Lord Rothschild as an answer to her problems. She made an arrangement with him, as a virgin, that she would become his lover if he would sponsor each of her sisters coming out into society under the guise of owing her deceased father a long ago debt. Miranda didn't do this just for her family, although that was the driving force, she did it because she wanted to discover passion with Ethan, something she believed he could give her after spying on him all those years.

At first, Ethan wanted to dominate, teach, and have absolute control over Miranda. He was like a cat, toying with a canary before he pounced and devoured. Eventually, he lost this total control when he started to develop loving feelings toward Miranda. Convinced that he could never love because of his bloodlines... his father was a heartless adulterer who drove Ethan's mom to drink, then death, lived up to what his father taught him. Have women, lots, and never care for them. If he married, it was for duty's sake and nothing more.

Miranda throughout this affair learned what intense passion and pleasure could be. She fell quickly and deeply in love with Ethan. Their relationship and agreement was shattered one evening when Miranda's mother was hosting a ball for Penelope, Miranda's younger sister by two years and best friend. Penelope unfortunately walked in on Ethan and Miranda. The shock was more than Penelope could bare because she came to realize that Miranda had sold herself for the family. Penelope judged her sister harshly and a little unfairly, not bothering to listen that passion was what Miranda wanted, that her and Ethan had more than just a bargain. This was the only thing that bugged me about the book, I had no complaints with the book, just Penelope being so harsh, unfeeling, and judgemental. Penelope never forgave her sister, but accepted the first marriage proposal from an old man of money that was old enough to be her grandfather.

After Ethan and Miranda were found out, Miranda ended their arrangement and forced Ethan to stay away from her, even though that was the last thing she wanted. During their time apart, Ethan realized that he wanted Miranda back in his life at any cost, that he truly did love her and didn't just want her as a mistress or lover, but as a wife.

These two were thrust together in London by accident at Penelope's engagement party. Ethan, truthfully pours his heart and soul out to Miranda and offers them to her, only to have her doubt him and refuse him yet again. While she is trying to make a hasty get away, he comes back into the ballroom and makes a very embarrassing and public display for Miranda's hand. Thankfully, she believes him and accepts his proposal of marriage and ultimately his love. I truly did feel the love between this couple. The love scenes were well written, tasteful, and smoking hot. I look forward to reading the rest of this series.

No extreme explicit warnings are needed for this book, there is sex and oral sex described, but that is it.(less)

While I would recommended this book to just about any woman, desperate housewife or no, I would not recommend reading this book on the subway, on a bus, on a place (well, maybe on a plane), or anywhere else that wasn't within a few steps of a very private space.

Never has he felt so out of control before. And the more time he spends with her, the more he misses her during the week when she is gone.

During a party that her mother holds, Ethan pulls Miranda into the library because he just can't see her and not want her. As they make love, they are discovered by Miranda's closest sister, Penelope. Miranda goes after her sister and they argue. Their argument ends with Penelope stating that she will find a rich suitor, ANY rich one to marry and help support their younger sisters because Miranda was a disgrace wishing for passion and not respect or honor.

After Ethan left the party, he finally realized what he was feeling was guilt, something that he had always pushed away. Miranda's mother had put the idea into his head about marrying one of her daughters. Marriage? Him? Although he had always refused after seeing the disaster that was his parents marriage, the word marriage stuck in his mind, unless...

He sent word that he wanted to see Miranda even though it wasn't "their day". When she arrived they talked down by the lake and he asked her to be his mistress. He knew that what short time they had of summer left, he wouldn't have his fill of her. He wanted something more, but he knew he could never commit, not to her, not to anyone. Although tempting, Miranda not only turned him down, but also said the price for passion was too high and she could not continue to see him any longer. He offered marriage, too but she also turned him down because she knew she was all ready in love with him and once he tired of her, she wasn't sure if she could deal with the heartbreak. She didn't want to make him miserable or trap him. They made love one final time out in the open where she had learned about passion and desire to begin with and then, she slipped from his life.

Back in London Ethan went to yet another boring party... this time an engagement party for Viscount Nelson. He just couldn't get his momentum back. He was miserable. And then, when he realized that this was Penelope's engagement party, he sought Penelope out, used his rakish reputation to get on Norman's good side and waltz with her, all the time demanding Miranda's whereabouts.

When he found her, the moment he looked at her he realized that he did indeed love her, only to have her push him away because seeing him, hearing his words only hurt as she thought he really didn't know what he wanted. As much she wanted to believe him, she felt it was only temporary and pulling away fled away from him. Yet, he found her again and infront of everyone at the party declared his love and vowed that no matter how long it took, he would someday marry her.

Penelope tried to get her to stop, but Miranda tried to explain that Penelope should never surrender love for duty nor should she marry because she was angry with Miranda. Then she turned and accepted Ethan and said she believed in what he said. They left the party making plans for the rest of their lives. (less)

I trudged through EVERYTHING FORBIDDEN - it's not that good, but no wallbanger either. It's an erotic romance, so it should come as no surprise that the book is really just a series of sex scenes tied together with a thin plot and a mildly convincing 19th century setting.

Miranda Albright risked ruin and was brave enough to pay a call at a bachelor's home just to help her family's dire straits. I admired how she was very honest to herself about her improper feelings, unlike other virgins who usually deny their inappropriate passions and constantly berate themselves about it. I like how she didn't accept marriage proposals just for the heck of it, but waited for that someone who can finally rouse and tempt her hidden passions. The way she conducted herself around Ethan during their romantic interludes were also admirable. She was refreshingly honest and open about her passions and was curious and willing enough to learn from Ethan. Miranda even boldly admitted her feelings for him. It was also very honorable of her to decline his proposal to be his mistress. I was extremely pleased that, as very tempting as it was, she didn't settle for anything less than what Ethan could give. At the end, i enjoyed how she gave Ethan a piece of her mind and declined, then finally forgave and learned to trust him with her heart.

As for Ethan Hamon, well..i didn't really know what to make of him. I found him to be an unscrupulous rake of the highest order and was even a tiny bit disgusted with regards to his sexual conquests. At his rate, i was actually afraid i'd come to loathe him at the end of the book. But to my vast relief, there was evident character growth and maturity so i finally found myself coming to like him. I was annoyed though at how he kept on and on about not being able to love and remain faithful to Miranda because "it was not in his nature." That line really grated on my nerves. I actually think it was just a convenient excuse for him to avoid any entanglements or commitments with those he sleeps with. That's why i'm glad Miranda rebuked him about it and finally put him in his place despite the repercussions it will do to her family. The part wherein i found Ethan admirable was during the end of the book wherein he bravely risked his most prized reputation just to finally have her for good.

All in all, this book is a good read especially to readers whose interests leans more on erotica. This book is definitely satisfying if we base it on the love scenes, but those who prefer more substance and length in their plot will be left somewhat rankled and disappointed. So even though i found the plot too little and the romantic scenes repetitive, i still found this book worthy enough for another read through. :)

Michaels writes emotionally intense, vivid stories, rich in erotic pleasure but always tasteful, and at their hearts they are stories about, well, the heart. Very similar in style and structure as Taboo - and featuring Cassandra, prior to her own story - it presents a stronger male lead but a less vigourous and familiar heroine. Miranda was likeable and sympathetic, and a completely different person from Cassandra - understandable, as they are coming from very different backgrounds and situations and upbringings. Miranda showed fire and strength at rare times, in keeping with her character, but was also so beaten down by circumstance and insecure about Ethan, that she wasn't, well, as fun to read about.

Ethan, though, was quite the erotic male lead. Everything about him fitted perfectly with how he was described, his reputation, his lifestyle, his desires and his own insecurities. He was subtly complex, and worth fighting for. The two had all the chemistry you could need - it practically set the pages on fire.

You do need to overlook a bit of artistic licence with the period setting. Set in the Regency period - 1817, to be exact - there's the same confusion over costume that puzzled me in Taboo. While slim women like Miranda wouldn't have needed to wear a corset under their Empress dresses, they did wear more than just a chemise. Also, their dresses didn't button up at the front, which the dresses on Michaels' women always do. Generally, though, the period is solid and the stories, set in this period, believable. For an fun, intense and satisfying romp you can't go far past Jess Michaels.(less)

I've always wondered why the steam factor in historical romance is so much less than any other form of romance. Is the author trying to remain true to historical accuracy? Miranda's father dies and her sisters need their seasons. She goes to Ethan for assistance and agrees to his proposition. She will be his lover every Friday for 24 hours during the next three months and he will sponsor her three sisters a season each. Miranda accepts.

This book is not a smex fest. It's not 24 hours of kinky loving. Ethan and Miranda make an emotinal connection, which frightens him and makes him skittish. He often sends her away before the day is over. It is their passion that leads to their romance and them falling in love. I loved how Ethan paced the room waiting for Miranda. The he would try to play it cool by making her wait. Ethan was a man who was use to the sexual art of sex. He finally meet a woman who doesn't play the game and revels in the passion he shares with her. In the past he'd notice her. He noticed Miranda looking at him as if she knew him. She was a reputable miss and, therefore, off-limits. Now, he has her and it throws him completely off balance.

I wish this book would have had an epilogue. The ending was abrupt. Ethan proved himself a hero in a romantic way. I liked that Miranda knew what she wanted and went for it. At one point, Her decision-making didn't make sense to me. Still, I give this erotic historical romance a B+.

FYI - For those gentle readers, there isn't any "back-door lovin" or menage a trois. No BDSM either. There was one toy, although I don't know what it was.

What makes a romance erotic? Is it the premise? I think Stephanie Laurens writes hot sexy times. So does Kresley Cole and Shelly Laurenston. Ah well, I'm off on a tangent. Anyway, this book has passionate encounters in front of a mirror, in a chair, and against a window. If you want to try an erotic novel this one shouldn't intimidate a gentle reader. On another tangent...Men really need to read romance novels. Ahem.(less)

I really liked this book! I really enjoyed seeing Ethan struggle with his feelings and how he lost his precious control in the end. I liked Miranda's character and I applaud her bravery and how she dared to want more, when she could have settled for less.
This a steamy book, dont get me wrong, but its more than that. I feel this is a story about family, duty, passion, hope, courage, desire but most of all finding redemption through love.

This was a great short story. I say short because it was about a 100 pages less than the average book, which I was sort of disappointed with, but then on the other hand, its a good thing. Sometimes you just don't need all that extra filler. However, I did wish that the love in this story had been explored more. Definitely better developed than most erotica, but much less engaging and erotic than a really well written historical romance. The chair scene in Untie My Heart? The alley in The Proposition? Just about all of The Raven Prince? Double the character development, and double the sensual impact.
