Heartbreaking and heartwrenching are what comes to mind when I think about Gideon and the conclusion to his story. What an awesome read. The emotional and physical suffering was so overwhelming. The constant conflict within Gideon's mind just blew me away. His battle of the feelings that both Daegan and Anwynn stir in him are constant. I mean, here is a man that has never belonged to much of anything or answered to anyone in his adult life, seeking comfort and praise from not one but two vampires. His devotion and loyalty to them are amazing considering that for the past 10 years he has been a vampire hunter! I was so glad to see that his sense of humor never faltered. He was truely a selfless servant.

Anwynn. Anwynnnnnnnnnnn. I can only describe her human self as an incomplete puzzle. As a vampire, she completes that puzzle---because I believe she was born to be the powerful vampire mistress that she easily portrays. She was at her best when she was within the safety of Gideon and Daegan's arms and when she was a Domme. For her to let Gideon go, tore her to pieces.

Daegan!!!!!! Holy hotness on a stick, batman!!!!!! What a great character! He is deadly, mysterious, and sexy as hell. He knew what he wanted from Gideon and made sure he got it! His handling of the council on behalf of Anwynn and Gideon were so honorable. Even when both he and Anwynn had to show the council how devoted Gideon was, he never gave any other heir than that of a dominating Master. I believe that scene was one of the MOST brutal of the BDSM moments in the entire series.

I'm glad that Gideon's story came full circle. It was very touching to see him with his brother at the end and to know that he was at peace with himself and his acceptance of the vital role he plays within the trinity. *SIGH*

Could not put this down, read through the small hours..
Continues the story of Gideon, Daegan and Anwyn. Seriously hot story of vampire menage and BDSM! Loved the relationship between the super cool 700 year old vampire Daegan and angst-ridden ex vampire-hunter Gideon.

I really loved getting to see more of Deagan! I enjoyed the change in scenery and the action at the end (which was the only point in the book I had to stop myself from scanning to get to the end because I was so on the edge of my seat)....more

Anwyn is a newly turned vampire. One who was turned against her will. She is part of a young vampire triad. The 2 other members are a vampire hunter named Gideon who wants his independence from the triad and a powerful and seductive vampire named Daegan. Anwyn cares for Gideon but realizes he doesn’t not want to be her vampire servant and he definitely doesn’t want to be in a relationship with another man! Anwyn and Daegan want to prove him wrong. But, Daegan has left their group and won't come back until Anwyn asks him to. He understands Anywn has emotional scars that she needs to overcome before she accepts him and becoming a vampire. Gideon's past as a vampire hunter has also come haunt them as the Vampire Council seeks retribution for his kills. But will Gideon bow down to them and become a vampire servant? Will they be able to have a lasting relationship or will their pasts and emotional scars tear them apart?

The author does not hold back as she goes straight into the life style of BDSM. This story was imaginative and lush but not for the faint of heart. There are ménage scenes and situations in the story are not always cut and dried and even coerced. Joey Hill explores the dark, sexy and unconventional alternative lifestyle. Anwyn is a dominatrix or mistress and both her men are also dominant men. While a large part of this book does include sex it also features characters that are 3 dimensional. They all have a deep pain in their past that makes them sympathetic. Particularly Gideon who was a strong vampire hunter and now is the submissive in their triad. Can he accept the Anwyn and Daegan for being vampires and accept them even if he does want them? I also enjoyed that the author delves deep into the vampire society and it was interesting to read about the vampire hierarchy and politics.

Complex, gritty and edgy. This is not the typical romance but one for readers who enjoy a lot of spice and dark fantasy.

Anwyn was a fledgling vampire under the care of Daegan Rei (older than old) and her human servant Gideon. The fact that Gideon's brother was with the Lady Lyssa (the oldest vamp of them all) notwithstanding, Gideon is overwhelmed being with two vampires. In the past he was a vampire hunter with 36 kills. Is this one book? Or is this part of a series? I’m not sure. I hope series, because I’d read the shit out of that. (I Googled this – seemingly this is book 6?! I must look at the first five. Either way, it works brilliantly as a stand alone book, so either way I’m fine). If you’ve never heard my ramblings on Twilight and 50 Shades, I’ll sum it up. This is what it should be like if you combine the two of the books, but if they were done well. This book encompasses what Vampires should be like – they’re dark, they kill, they need human blood to survive. It also encompasses BDSM and sexual curiosity far better than 50 Shades (but then again, most things do). The proclamation that sexual desire is an integral part of being a vampire makes it appear seamless, and it’s really good.

Where both the (fairly crap) book series I mentioned lack a real plot, or a plot with grit (falling in love with a baby and proving the baby will grow up is not a plot to me), this has it. There’s love and lust, yes, there’s issues with the transition into being a vampire, yes, but the plot is pretty solid. When it came to 50 Shades, someone had told me she was plot-focussed and kind of skimmed over the sex because she got sick of it, others I know did the opposite. Vampire Trinity doesn’t have this issue. The sex scenes were good, well written and creative (and not completely ludicrous and worshipping – I will stop referring to the two rubbish books for comparison now…) and the plot kept me page turning because I simply had to know what happened. Fantastic. One of the best books I’ve read in a while.

Other note: Twilight was the last new Vampire book I read. I grew up loving Vampires i.e. Dracula. Dark vampires, dangerous vampires. Much like erotica now, I felt like shying away from it because all other books I read would be a pitiful representation. I mean, if everyone takes Twilight as what Vampires *should* be like, why wouldn’t every book since then portray them as sparkling pansies? This made me feel better about it. I’m not sure if it was written pre or post Cullen, but I like that there’s at least some fantastic Vampire books out there, where they’re not vegetarian sparklers.(less)

OMG what a story. I am not sure Joey could have crammed anymore into these two books. I mean with all that went on in the first with Anwyn transition and bloodlust and almost killing Gideon. You move to this book and her having to go in front of the Vampire Council for validation when she isn't stable. There is the intrigue with who is betraying Daegan. I also loved that Gideon saved Daegan in the showdown it just shows how much they need each other.

The trinity in this book was amazing, each one of them fitting together perfectly. Even Anwyn at the end made me cry by letting him go even as she sacrificed her own vampire feelings. Gideon leaving started what was the best part of the book for me. It was so emotional and him thinking that he never belonged with them or to them was so sad. I loved this part of the book because it showed all of them at their most vulnerable. This book was also exciting and I never knew what was going to happen all I knew is that Gideon has a mark on him that was undeniable.

Now, just a couple of words on Daegan. He is my favorite character in this entire series. He just has this way about him, he is so sure of himself always dominant and so careful with Gideon that it breaks my heart. The way he respects him as a vampire hunter and trusts him was everything Gideon needed. Daegan knew how hard it was for Gideon, he could've marked him from the beginning but waited for Gideon to want it. When Daegan showed up to save the day I almost stood up and started shouting hooray! He refused to let Gideon not own up to the feelings he had for both him and Anwyn. He just never gave up and for that reason besides the fact he is hot and has amazing sex he is my favorite. (less)

So couldn't wait to finish this 2nd part of Anwyn/Gideon/Daegan's story.
It was great to see Gideon's struggle with everything: being a human in vamp world, being a hunter, being a servant, being accepting, letting the past go, letting himself accept what he wanted & needed.

Anwyn's struggle with her mental demons & the way she needed Gideon's help to handle them was a nice twist. A way to weaken & make dependent a independent/dominant person.

Throughout the Vampire Queen Series, Joey W. Hill has gracefully blended genres, and has used this blending as a catalyst to explore the more stringent aspects involved in Dominant/submissive sexual relationships. Maybe by adding the paranormal genre to this mix she is able to give the reader the illusion or permission, if you will, to explore this world without feeling they are compliant to what polite society deems illicit behavior.

Oooor…maybe she just thought; “how hot would it be to write a series about scandalously dominant vampires with dexterous sexual vigor, enthralling beauty and give them human servants to have hot money sex with… and see what happens?” I mean sometimes a spade is just a spade. Regardless of why, Ms. Hill is a talented writer with a style that can only be deemed exclusively hers.

Putting aside the scintillating sexual influence for a moment… Wait, what? Why would she ask us to put that aside, she must be joking…she is joking right????” Hold your horses; I just want you to also understand that all of the books in this series are ardently poignant romances at their finest.
Joey W. Hill has combined perfectly synchronized characters that while stimulating your libido, will also capture your heart. Keeping you riveted to the very last page.

For those of you like me that can’t wait for the next book in this series, I’m afraid that won’t be until, Vampire Instinct comes out in July of 2011. L

They are forced to Berlin to the Vampire Gathering… not good, not good at all. Notorious vampire hunter at a vampire meeting-no bueno. Naturally, the vampires have plans within plans that you need a magic decoder ring to decipher. Nothing simple or straightforward for vampires… ever. All 3 are tested in some way, shape, form or fashion & all are barreling toward the inevitable ultimatum. This story is choc full of action & at one point I thought ‘damn, these 3 just canNOT catch a break!’ Seriously, when it rains it pours.

We get more background on Daegan & even Anwyn. Daegan is for all intents & purposes a bad ass, even amongst the vampires. We also discover that he too has been a lost & lonely soul for a very, very long time. Gideon is forced to face some uncomfortable truths about himself & Anwyn is struggling to find her balance in a new world. Lord Brian & Debra play sort of an instrumental role in this one & I find myself more & more intrigued by their relationship through the brief snippets that we've gotten over the course of the series. I wonder if they'll eventually get their own book. At any rate, in a nutshell it was fantastic! But, I've come to expect little else from Ms. Hill.

This book is a common re-read for me but I hadn't done a review since I read it before joining GR. Out of 5 stars, it's a 10 star read. An all time fave. Gideon is a favorite in all my romance/erotica reading but Daegan is a close 2nd and Anwyn fits perfectly with them. They are a true trinity and this is an excellent follow up to Vampire Mistress. You do need to read Vampire Mistress to enjoy this book. Gideon is so smart mouthed and fun. Yet, he's also incredibly brave and loyal. He adds the needed balance to the dark and brooding Daegan. He's not afraid to challenge Daegan and Daegan is, for the most part, ok with that because it's usually with Anwyn's best interests at heart.

As Gideon describes it, Daegan is the leader of their little army. Daegan's first instinct is to protect what is his and he loves at all costs whether they like it or not. It's clearly Anwyn and Gideon who he loves even if he doesn't say it. He's truly one of actions speaking louder than words. Anwyn through this series has been trying to gain her confidence since becoming a vamp. Despite this, she recognizes what her and Daegan need and it's Gideon. She sees through Gideon's walls and does what she has to to help him. Even when he doesn't think he needs it and even when it breaks her heart.

The sex is sizzling, especially when it comes to the interaction between Gideon and Daegan. Oh, myyyyyyyyyyy. Are those two smokin' together.

Anwyn takes on the domme role when it comes to Gideon. I haven't found many domme books I like but Joey Hill does them well. Gideon remains true to himself while still showing his desire to submit and protect. He remains a strong figure and fighter but someone who very much needs to love, serve and protect someone in his way. For him, it's clearly Anwyn and Daegan but it's hard for him to admit his submissive needs to serve and his desire for Daegan when he had never been attracted to males before. Anwyn and Daegan are both masters to Gideon but Daegan is the true leader of their little army.

This book is not for the faint of heart. It's bloody, brutal, hard core, with vamps and all their dark ways. It's also an incredibly positive story of finding love and happiness. Joey Hill's writing is always incredibly well done. She's my favorite author and an auto buy.

I felt Gideon got cheated in a way...but the story really was a good one. Of the 3 Gideon had the most to overcome and he did it so admirably. His self sacrifice and endurance should not be overlooked. While he had to SAY how they made him feel etc. Deagan and Anwyn got away with blocking their thoughts and only conveying their feelings via waves of emotion that they allowed to escape. I did found this conclusion to Gideon's story to be a fulfilling one, to be sure. As started in Vampire Mistress, Gideon, former vampire hunter and now third-marked servant, works with Daegan Rei, vamp and Council assassin, to ease Anwyn's transition into the vampire world. Joey is an expert at driving my emotions over the top. It was a gut wrenching for me. Had my stomach so tight and twisted that I had to put it down several times, and I mean in a good way. Oh wow I loved this book. It was the perfect conclusion to Gideons story. I found I was emotionally involved with the story so I got upset when Gideon when out on his own. this book was heart wrenching and about home and family and how it can be different from what people thin is normal but how it makes it no less important just because it is different. Fantastic! I was at first hesitant to read these as although I read a lot of books with strong female leads I usually don’t go for total femdom. The lead in these two books is Anwyn Naime a Domme who owns a fetish club. So I was not prepared to be blown away by this intelligent, sensitive, well written story. But as you may have guess I sit here all agog regretting that it took me so long to read these. Now I will have to get and devour the rest of the books in this series.

Due to the subject matter -- including fantasy!BDSM which is not necessarily safe, sane OR consensual (if someone says "no," thinks "no," but subconsciously is on-board.... I lean towards listening to the "no" even when mindreading is involved) and crazy amounts of self-created drama on the parts of two out of three characters -- I don't exactly recommend this book to anyone and everyone. But I did thoroughly enjoy it.

So I thought this book was going to be a little like Lover Awakened, since it's like the fourth book or something like that after the Vampire Queen's Servant. Anyways, it had a really high rating and I did not enjoy it. I skipped and skimmed pages A LOT, just to get to interesting ones. It just seemed to me like it dragged on and on, and was kind of boring. :-(

loved this one, but you must read Vampire Mistress first. The relationship among the three of them is so well done, just riveting, I was rooting for them the whole way. Another dense, fairly slow exploration of emotions with a lot of hot sex and m-m tension, but I kept coming back and really enjoyed it.

Mrs. Hill delievers a pack full all goodies with Daegan, Anwyn, and Gideon. Gideon, a vampire hunter, has been overwhelmed with affection for Anwyn and Daegan, and has to decide if he can be in their company forever. He loves them both and is fighting with himself about his feelings.

I'm really hoping for more of Gideon,Daegan,and Anwyn.Vampire Trinity and Vampire Mistress have been my favorite in the Vampire Queen Series.The bond that the three of them share is just so well written and their relationships are full of chemistry and passion.

Very much look forward to more.

This book is the follow-on to Vampire Mistress. Both books taken together definitely stretch the envelope of horror meets romance - or is it romance meets horror? Anyway, the books taken together make me think of Stephen King, and I can't fully explain why. Maybe it's the "ho-hum" way that King throws in graphic violence. It's kind of treated like no big deal in these.

I really loved it! I was presently surprised since I wasn't head over hill with part one of this storyline, book 5Vampire Mistress. This one was very steamy and as the norm for Joey W Hill tastefully done. I enjoyed the bloom and blossom of Daegan and Gideon's love and sexual build. In the early books of this series there lack some of the love aspect, imho, but this book was not lacking in that department. I felt the love and struggle between the three of them. From then on, though I may appreciate their craft or art, it has somehow been tarnished.

Therefore, whenever I’m asked to provide personal information about myself for readers, a ball of anxiety forms in my stomach as I think: “Okay, the next couple of paragraphs can change forever the way someone views my stories.” Why on earth does a reader want to know about me? It’s the story that’s important.

So here it is. I’ve been given more blessings in my life than any one person has a right to have. Despite that, I’m a Type A, borderline obsessive-compulsive paranoiac who worries I will never live up to expectations. I’ve got more phobias than anyone (including myself) has patience to read about. I can’t stand talking on the phone, I dread social commitments, and the idea of living in monastic solitude with my husband and animals, books and writing is as close an idea to paradise as I can imagine. I love chocolate, but with that deeply ingrained, irrational female belief that weight equals worth, I manage to keep it down to a minor addiction. I adore good movies. I’m told I work too much. Every day is spent trying to get through the never ending “to do” list to snatch a few minutes to write.

Despite all these mediocre and typical qualities, for some miraculous reason, these wonderful characters well up out of my soul with stories to tell. When I manage to find enough time to write, sufficient enough that the precious “stillness” required rises up and calms all the competing voices in my head, I can step into their lives, hear what they are saying, what they’re feeling, and put it down on paper. It’s a magic beyond description, akin to truly believing my husband loves me, winning the trust of an animal who has known only fear or apathy, making a true connection with someone, or knowing for certain I’ve given a reader a moment of magic through those written words. It’s a magic that reassures me there is Someone, far wiser than myself, who knows the permanent path to that garden of stillness, where there is only love, acceptance and a pen waiting for hours and hours of uninterrupted, blissful use.

If only I could finish that darned “to do” list. (less)
