First in a new erotic historical series of magical heroines and sexy warriors.

Carys knew from the moment she first spied on Maximus in his naked barbarian glory that he was a dangerous Roman centurion-his taut, battle-scarred flesh marking him as a fearless warrior. But her desire for him was as undeniable as it was illicit.

Charged by his emperor to eliminate a clan of...more

3 ½ stars – Erotic Historical Romance

The premise of “forbidden” love between a Roman centurion who’s charged with leading the fight to eliminate enemy tribes in Britain and the princess of a powerful Druid clan who’s gifted with magic seemed like a unique concept for an erotic romance. And I thought it sounded a little bit like the movie King Arthur with Clive Owen and Keira Knightley, which I loved.

It started off really good, and the star-crossed love affair between battle scarred warrior Maxi...more

A nice change of pace from the usual historical romance offerings: A Roman Centurion, Maximus, and a Druid Princess, Carys. Two lovers caught on opposite sides of a war. What a delicious set up for a romance!

And what opposites they are. Carys - A Druid Princess from a matriarchal line. A cultural that holds women in high esteem, honors their Goddesses above all, doesn’t believe they need a man’s permission. Maximus - Roman, alpha, protective, possessive, sees women as property, patriarchal. It’s...more

This is such a great book. A Roman centurion and Celtic princess in the time of Rome's occupation makes for fantastic reading. Their two worlds have collided and instead of hating each other they fall in love. Add an evil Druid hell bent on destroying everything they both love and the magic of the Goddesses and you've got yourself one enchanting read. I'm so in love with Carys and Tiberius Valerius Maximus. They are such a well matched couple. Their chemistry is vibrant, intense and scorches the...more

If you are looking for a light and fluffy romance, Forbidden is not the novel your looking for. Be prepared for a strong story of passion and adventure as two worlds collide. Caught in the middle are two lovers, on opposing sides, forced to either fight against each other or fight for the chance to stay together.

Carys knows it’s forbidden for her to spy on the gorgeous Roman soldier as he bathes beneath the waterfall near her home, but she can’t help herself. She finds herself drawn to him and s...more

Review: During the time of Rome’s powerful rule, the emperor sends his army into a land ruled by Druids and into a battle of magic, lust, and greed in which two unlikely lovers become entwined in a romance that crosses boundaries. Cary’s unashamedly watches the breath taking Roman as he baths never believing she would get caught watching him bath. Her attraction to him is wrong because he is an enemy of her people and she is their princess. Maximus captures his little voyeur and in the process h...more

Historical Romance-Sept 7th 2010
5 stars

Forbidden is an amazingly sensual and taunt historical that enthralled this reader. Set in the rough and untamed Roman times it made me want a brawny Roman centurion of my own!

Carys is a healer and a Celt Princess destined for great things. But Carys is playing with fire when she is caught spying on the ruggedly handsome and sexy Roman centurion Maximus taking his bath. When Maximus sees Carys he is mesmerized by her beaut...more

Interesting and unusual setting, of lovers torn between warring cultures. This book could have easily been dark and twisty, but it really didn't go that way. Phillips' writing has a hazy, almost ethereal quality that worked given the inclusion of Carys as Celtic, matrilineal Druid princess. Carys was likeable and assertive. Maximus, as a Roman conqueror could have easily just kidnapped her in the first scene, but he doesn't. All of this was refreshing and appreciated. (Same goes for the lack of...more

This is a passionate novel set during the Roman occupation of the UK. Named Forbidden because (of course), it is the story of love between a Roman officer and a beautiful druid.

Carys, the druid, had first seen the gorgeous centurion bathing, and as it was his habit to go to the stream and bathe in privacy, she would often hide in the trees and watch him. Until one day he catches her, and is immediately drawn to the mysterious and beautiful Celt. As the druids have created trouble for the Romans...more

Carys and her people, the druids, are in hiding from the Roman barbarians that have taken over their land. As a healer and princess, Carys wants to care for those that are sick, but if she is caught by a Roman soldier, she fears being attacked and raped. She prays to her goddess for answers, but hears nothing in return. She is walking a dangerous line when she watches a Roman bathing near a waterfall. She is strangely attracted to him and fantasies about becoming his lover. When the Roman spots...more

Favorite Quote: Gods, if he didn’t get relief soon, his balls would explode.

Carys, a powerful Druid can’t help herself as she watches a very sexy Roman centurion, her enemy, bathe in a waterfall. She is mesmerized by him, although she she thinks she is being sly hiding, he discovers her watching. It is lust at first sight for both of them, but their lust is complicated. They come from opposing sides – both trying to decimate the other. If she were to become enslaved by the Romans, bloodshed of a...more

The writing sizzles, but Christina Phillips' real gift to readers is characters with heart and passion. As desperately impossible as Carys and Maximus' love seems, you believe that they have the courage to create a new, shared future. That's the magic -- and the hope -- of romance, and "Forbidden" delivers it.

A wonderful, emotional and sexy read.

I don't often read erotic romance, but this book is an amazing blend of well-researched history and forbidden love. Absolutely could not put it down, and I am looking forward to reading the next book in the series.

It's been a long time since I've read any erotic--I may be getting too old for it, as it just made me tired.

I Love this book. This reminded me a lot of Anya Seton's Mistletoe and Sword as it was very much about Romans and Druid and a forbidden live between the two. What I did prefer about this was that the Roman way of life was much more brutal, without being overly so.

A great read which is being added to my Favorite's!!!!

Christina Phillips has always loved writing, and while her efforts in eighth grade usually involved space ships, time travel and unfortunate endings, as soon as she discovered romance novels a whole new world opened up. She now writes ancient historical romance about strong heroines and gorgeous warrior heroes who, no matter how torturous the journey, are guaranteed their happily-ever-after. Chris...more
