The Holy Terror
I don't know what it is about this series that keeps it from being more than average for me. I like the ideas that Caine comes up with but I don't think she's the greatest writer. I find myself distracted while reading her books and not as emotionally connected as I should be. That being said, I liked it enough to want to continue on with the series and find out what happens with the characters.

This entry in the series starts right where the first book left off. This left me feeling a little los...more

At the end of book 1 Glass Houses, Shane's psychopathic, vampire hunting father and his band of thugs showed up. The Dead Girls' Dance has him running amok in Morganville. The vampires are hunting him and Claire, Shane, Eve and Michael are the meat in the sandwich.

This book has some good things going on, but there are a few things that really annoyed me. The epilogue in the form of diary entries from Eve is tedious. The protagonists spend most of their time whining, and it gets to be a bit much...more

I had this whole review planned out in my head. And then I sat down to write it out. And it's ALL GONE. All of it. I REMEMBER NOTHING. So here I am, making shit up as I go.

This book was so much better than the first one. This isn't really a spoiler, just so you know. Click it. ---> (view spoiler)[I keep seeing reviews about how the first book was so much better. BOO, THIS IS ME DISAGREEING. HARD. (hide spoiler)] I know I only gave it one star higher, but that is a serious star right there. Do...more

Goodreads Summary

Claire Danvers has her share of challenges--like being a genius in a school that favors beauty over brains, homicidal girls in her dorm, and finding out that her college town is overrun with the living dead. When a local fraternity throws the Dead Girls' Dance, hell really breaks loose. Original.

This is the second book in the Morganville Vampire series and it picks up right where book one leaves off. By now, we've learned a bit more about all the inhabitants of the Glass House, where Claire is currently living off-campus while attending Texas Prarie University. Her roommates—Eve the Goth girl, sexy hunk Shane, and mysterious Michael—have been having to fight off the vampires that rule Morganville because situations beyond their control have really pissed some of them off. It certainly d...more

Just like the first book, this held me from beginning to end. I was only a little surprised that Rachel Caine continued to develop her characters in addition to adding new characters with a lot of depth. She seems to be a very talented writer, and I really love all her series'. Shane's dad in this one...what a frightening dude, but I always love a different perspective, and getting his was interesting. I felt horrible for Shane, and honestly cried when he was arrested, and I never cry over books...more

*Warning: possible spoilers ahead.*

Book two in the Morganville series-by Rachel Caine- is Dead Girls Dance. In this book, we follow Claire, Shane, Michael and Eve as they once again attempt to navigate the treacherous underworld of vampires.

Shane's father, a notorious Vampire Killer, has returned to Morganville with a score to settle and the vampires are sure that Shane is in on it. When a vampire ends up dead, Shane winds up in a cage awaiting judgment. And humans are always...more

So, just out of curiosity I decided to take a peek at the first chapter. I'm in the middle of another book for my year long challenge, but after finishing Glass Houses, I was really interested to see how the cliff-hanger played out. I started reading, and didn't stop until just now at 10:32 p.m. I think it's safe to say this book was enthralling. I even had some very teary eyed moments along with Claire and even yearned for Shane a...more

I like that this book picked up precisely where Glass Houses left off and kept to the fast pace. And even though she's often annoying because of it, I do like that 16 yr old small-town nerd Claire is written to be naive and sophomoric rather than implausibly sophisticated. The romantic aspect was also nicely done, as was the introduction of Sam. However, the villains were rather flat--perhaps to underscore that Claire is discovering that humans can be as bad as the vampires--so the sense of broo...more

I started The Dead Girls' Dance almost immediately after finishing Glass Houses. I read it in one sitting of about three and half hours. It was so easy to arrive right back in Morganville as this book starts where the first book ended. The transition is seemless and so I was absorbed from the very first page this time.
I will try to limit any spoilers but if you want to be left completely in the dark, please do not read any further.

From the first book I read in this series, the thing that bothered me the most is that Rachel Caine is a terrible writer. I couldn't figure out why when I read the first book, but now with the second I think I have a few ideas. Her writing doesn't flow smoothly, and a lot of what she says is ridiculous or doesn't make any sense. She also needlessly writes the most terrible cliffhangers at the end of books ever (which this one wasn't too bad but still), and she is terrible at piecing together her...more

This is book two in the series and explains how Michael got to be who is is, and why. It also introduces us to Shane's father, and goes into his family history more. His father is seriously demented, and a bully. The title of the book is about a party, held on campus each year at a frat house.Claire is not a party girl, but since she is trying to find some answers she attends. I will not spoil this for any of you that want to read it,but it goes deeper than just a vampire story. It makes you look a...more

All I can really say about this book is wow. I didn't think Rachel Caine could top Glass Houses, but top it she did. The Dead Girls' Dance was even better than the first in the series and I couldn't put it down - even the second time through. We have several new characters, and even more drama to keep you on your toes. Caine has a way of writing that keeps you interested. The underlying humour is fantastic, even when the story itself is kind of morbid and depressing. The only criticism I have is...more

OK, I raced straight into reading this after finishing the first book. In a lot of ways, you knew what was going to happen in this one. There were some surprises here and there but nothing earth shattering. It was all fairly typical. Bad guys, brave girls, a lot of bled shed and deals made.

I enjoyed it though--in some ways. I think this book had some strong points but I do find the constant fight-fight-fight tiresome. These two books take place in a fairly short period of time. Lives are change...more

I'm officially hooked with this series. The book starts exactly where the first book left us hanging. Shane's vampire-loathing father is back in town and is unstoppable. Of course, this causes trouble for the gang since this will put them in the bad side of the vampires. Shane was blame for the death of a vampire and was captured to be killed. And it was up to Claire to save him. She put herself in a lot of danger, like pissing of the two most powerful vampires in the Morganville. Kidnapped by M...more

The plot thickens, oh how it thickens. Things are getting hot in Morganville and Shane's life hangs in the balance. I really think that kid is an idiot. Anyone that dumb is going to end up dead or dragging others down with him. Claire in case of point. She is getting stronger in this one but still has some way to go. I still think she is waaaaaayyyy too nice to Monica. Actually that gets strained to the point of disbelief in this book. In fact it gets so ridiculous that I don't believe it and I...more

This book picks up exactly where the first left off. This is both a good thing and a bad thing. It’s good if you’ve read the first book recently, because it means no waiting! But if it’s been over two years (like with me), it leaves you a bit disoriented until you can get up to speed again. I actually wonder if these first two books were actually just one that the author was forced to split in two.

But, once you do get up to speed again, this is a decent little book. Claire and her roommates real...more

Bueno, no pasa nada.

What I Loved: Claire continues to be such a unique character for a YA Novel. She is growing stronger, less mousy, and you start to get the impression that she is important to the vampires of Morganville. This book continues the story quite nicely! You learn more about Shane, Micheal, and Eve and by the end you know that our awesome foursome have a lot to deal with in Morganville.

What I Liked: Usually it is the romantic elements of YA that make m...more

This girl is just insane. I remember how I was when I was a teenage but I don't think I had life threatening situations to contend with on a day to day basis. I feel bad that such a young but brilliant girl has to deal with these. The more and more I read about Morganville the more and more I wonder why in the hell everyone doesn't' just pack it up, get out, and stay out. Why would you want to stay in a Vampire feeding ground when there were so many other places to live. But...if the heroine lef...more
