The Bondage Breaker by Neil Anderson is a very power non-fiction novel. He introduces the struggles that many people encounter on the daily bases from emotional battles, depression, negative thoughts, guilt of the past, anger, bitterness, doubt, suicidal thoughts, and so many other problems that people face on the daily. These issues, Anderson unveils, are a battle within self and they can be defeated by discipline and surrender to God. I love His boldness to step out and confront all the inner...more

This book opened my eyes to the truth that I really am in the middle of a spiritual battle! Not necessarily for my salvation, as I'm already covered by Jesus Christ and my faith in Him, but for my daily victory in God. Satan's constant attempts to trip me up are meant to stop me from effectively doing God's work. No more! After reading The Bondage Breaker and studying the Bible I still struggle with spiritual darkness, but the light is much more visible now. This book has really changed my life...more

I read this several years ago and I don't remember much about it, but I do remember it impacted me. I was a young adult and new Christian, and was struggling to reconcile the truth about the mercy of Christ with my pretty crazy background and history. I can't remember how I stumbled across this, but it seemed to fit the bill. Then at the library when I checked it out, the lady working looked me in the eye and said "make sure you have someone praying for you while you're reading this." Holy smoke...more

I understand the concept, but I am confused by several things. First, where in scripture does it say that the Holy Spirit and Satan can occupy the same vessel? He does not give scripture to back up this view point, just his own reasoning. Secondly, I have an issue with him saying that God will employ demons to "possess" people to get his work done. I don't believe that. Why would you use the very thing you are suppossedly trying to cast out of someone in order to reach them? I don't understand t...more

This is a very misleading book concerning the power of Satan and work of Jesus on the cross. Anderson's main thesis for this book--that born-again believers can be possessed by demons--is not supported by Scripture. His understanding of sin and Christian's struggle to victory, is understood by this thesis alone; thus, every believer needs to be delivered from some type of evil or they will never experience freedom in Christ. His resolution to this problem is his "Seven Steps to Freedom" found in...more

A friend lent me this book because I was under attack again. I never really paid attention to spiritual warfare because of a highly secular and rational worldview. This book is easy to read, short chapters with stories of people turned to victory.
If there's one thing this book encouraged me about, it'd be that Satan is really Grotesque and malicious and fearful to the human...but not to us the children of God who are fully empowered to resist him only if we depend on Jesus.
And on the sidenote, t...more

This book is one mom wanted me to read once she was done with it, so I've picked it up, and am about 4 or 5 chapters into it. So far, it's looking really great! I'll let you all know more once I have finished it myself.

This was a creepy book. It is not so much a psychology self-help as it was the views of the author on how to break the bonds with spiritualism. Many stories were told of how the author helped those who had spirit guides. There is some good here, mixed with error which is a usual method of Satan. The author insisted that very specific prayers must be prayed and that the one seeking release must say out loud all of their claims in Jesus. From his writing that one must do much more besides casting...more

This was one heavy book. It gave me a lot to think about, changed my perspective on many spiritual things and was much like a 200 page counseling service.

The examples in this book were pretty extreme (like something out of the Exorcist) but the truth is, everyone holds some kind of spiritual bondage--even if it's just unforgiveness. We've all given the Devil some kind of foothold in our lives and this book brings that to light.

Before I read this book, I read "Fight Like A Girl" by some chick a...more

A great book that I would commend to any believer. Anderson's background in psychology and his experience as a pastor our brought together in tackling the issues we all struggle with - the lies that we have convinced ourselves. Lies that Satan has fed us through our own difficult experiences, through our culture or even through out churches. Anderson's argument that the truth of who we are in Christ and the truth's God has given us in Scripture are our strongest response to Satan's deceit.

Parts of this book were good for me, such as taking each thought captive to Christ and getting rid of things in the home that serve as negative spiritual strongholds. This part of his family history questionnaire really bothered me, though, and continues to bother me when I think back on reading this book three years later: "Was your father clearly the head of the home, or was there a role reversal in which your mother ruled the home? Explain."

Now, I think there is such a thing as being "too fem...more

I read this book and I really liked it. Recently I began to hear that some Christian leaders were speaking out against the author. I hadn't seen anything wrong with what he said in this book, so I was bothered and interested enough to try to find out what the argument was against him. It seems to me the main issue is confusion regarding the difference between demon possession - which can't happen to Christians, and demon attacks - which can. Of the portion I read of the argument against him I di...more

I'm not sure what I think of this book. I'm glad that it takes spiritual warfare seriously. But I'm not sure that much of the methodology in this book is well, ... biblical. Maybe that's just my modernist/post-modernist worldview coming through. It's worth reading through with an open mind though. Just because things aren't necessarily biblical doesn't mean they can't help. :)

Taken within the correct context, this book is a useful and needful tool in Christian ministry and even living. (The only concern I have is the people I have noticed in my life who used any tools as a substitute for the Bible.)

This book by Anderson has a lot of revealing insights and has a sharpening, purifying edge to it. I would suggest a bible study in a group while approaching this book, as it is highly spiritual and as it so very well depletes , the battle is in the mind.

Sequel to Victory over the Darkness to be read only after our awareness of our position in Christ. The Bondage Breaker opens our eyes to the bondage in our lives, be it stress, work, addiction, thought life, etc. and through Scripture guides us toward the breakdown of these self-imposed chains in a practical way.

I read this when I was going through some hard times in my life about 4 years ago. It was good. It helped me a lot at the time, but it's one of those books that has so much information you need to apply to your life that you could probably read it 3 or 4 times and learn something new each time.

A must-have resource for the Christian looking for healing and freedom from their past traumas, habits, and hang-ups that are causing their walk with Christ to be be something it was never intended to be: burdensome and ineffective.

This is not a 'self-help' book, but a way of reshaping your thinking with a solid scriptural basis, confronting lies that have held you down, and embracing your identity in Christ.

I have seen God free people from Satan's power recently and this book helped them stay free. I appreciate several books that this author has written. We used the Portuguese version in Brazil for years. I just bought this on Kindle to have it with me wherever I go.

As I read this book I could not help but think that it filled in a serious previously unknown gap in my seminary education. It is fascinating intellectually, and it provides a pathway to significant spiritual healing.

This companion book to "Victory Over the Darkness" is another essential read for Christians that are struggling with their identity in Christ and want a look at the practical ways they can connect with God and break free of the work of Satan, the flesh, and the world.

Included in the book is a section called "Steps to Freedom in Christ" which walks the reader through numerous sections of prayer/confession/repentance for past actions that, in turn, hopefully leads the reader to a renewed relations...more

Excellent book on spiritual warfare! It not only goes over the normal areas of bondage but very practically takes you through a confession-repentance- reallegiance to Christ in each area of your life. Breaking down strongholds in your life. Unlike many books on SW it is not just a bunch of Christianized mantras to repeat daily true self-examination. Giving you the opportunity to take back ground that has been given to the enemy

Practical book about setting people free from demonic oppression and bondage. I learned a lot from this book. As a Christian it is useful to read at least one book on this subject, so as not to be ignorant.

Neil T. Anderson is gifted in helping you see strongholds in area of your life from reading this book and Boundaries is amazing as well. He also has a wonderful bible study on praying in the spirit.

yesterday when I was a little over half way done, I would have given this a two. Then today I wad commited to finishing it and I must say it has changed my life. The prayers at then end were so affirming and the forgiveness of self I am feeling is just amazing. Yesterday I thought that Neil was a finger pointer...today..totally different opinon. a must read to heal those irrational feelings from a spirtual place.

It explained my life to me. It's a book I go back to from time to time to be reminded of the truth. It's deep, but can change your life if your willing to get real.

lives up to it's title. so glad i read it! in this book, neil anderson tells story after story of people suffering with bondage of sins or evil spiritual influences on their lives and the process used to finally be free. it's over-simplifying it to say there is a formula to deal with evil spirits and sins in our lives which keep coming back over and over even after committed prayer. ...but, it really is that simple. he breaks it down into seven steps called the 'steps to freedom' which are at th...more
