In her two bestselling books, Math Doesn't Suck and Kiss My Math, actress and math genius Danica McKellar shattered the "math nerd" stereotype by showing girls how to ace middle school math-and actually feel cool while doing it!

Sizzling with Danica's trademark sass and style, Hot X: Algebra Exposed tackles algebra: the most feared of all math classes and the most common r...more

I love this book. Not only are the lessons clear and easy to follow, but the tone is conversational and engaging. I have actually used some of the analogies she uses (integers = mintegers and lintegers) to explain integers to my 10 year old son. Making these abstract concepts into quirky stories helps to break down the math intimidation complex and also makes the abstract comprehensible. Her mini-stories are amusing and keep me turning pages. The examples slowly ramp up in difficulty, but she gu...more

Would you, have you, responded with knee-jerk distaste to a pretty girl, a TV star, protesting loudly that "Math Doesn't Suck"? (especially when her book with that title is subtitled "How to Survive Middle School Math Without Losing Your Mind or Breaking a Nail"?) Do you find the magazine-style covers of the pretty girl's books, promising personality quizzes, and "boy-crazy confessionals" along with word problems and polynomials, patronizing and/or pandering?

Well, you might. You might. But don't...more

Hot X is Danica McKellar's third math book. This one introduces algebra and has the same amusing sidebars and as her previous books, Kiss my Math and Math Doesn't Suck.

Along with the algebra, the book has some life lessons and advice about dealing with bad relationships, bullying and other unpleasantries that a teenage girl might be facing in her life. There are also some included messages from readers of her previous books or from women who use algebra in their profession.

As I mentioned in my r...more

I love this book. I'm a nontraditional college student and it really helped me get thru math. It's written and aimed for the high school crowd but she puts it in language that is easy to understand, using (sometimes ridiculous) examples or "cutesy" comparisons. The teen/girlish talk gets old but somehow the examples stick with u..
i plan to get her other books for my kids asap.

In Hot X, Danica McKellar manages to cover in 400 pages (complete with worked out examples and practice problems) what most algebra books fail to cover well in 800. As was the case with her other two books, McKellar covers the variable, graphing, and exponent skills covered in a traditional algebra class with thorough explanations and a great sense of humor. Any algebra student would benefit from having this book as a reference (that will help them refresh skills as they tackle Geometry and Alge...more

Um yeah so this is only THE BEST ALGEBRA HELP BOOK EVER!!!!!!!!!! No really, it helped me to master most of the concepts in the book...in 7th grade. And for such a math-suck-butt person like me that is.... wow.... And for all the girls in my family that have a math problem problem (I meant to put it that way) this is so helpful!

As usual McKellar does a great job of making difficult concepts very practical. My only criticism is the Watch Out sections give the wrong answers, but fails to share the correct solutions. This book explores Algebra in a fun, approachable way.

This book came off the "patron did not pick up" morning shelf. It looks great. It's like a real life way to understand algebra. This author has also written "Math Doesn't Suck" and "Kiss My Math".

All my life I've struggled with math. This book pulled me through a very difficult test and helped me keep my job. A must read for girls that "don't get math."

I am on page 66! So far I have come to understand things I never understood before. I want to go back and read Kiss My Math first.

McKeller's journey into Algebra for Girls is just what the teacher ordered. If you have a daughter who is struggling with Math, this is a must.

Made for those without the math gift, this is a book broken down into straightforward language, easy charts, and memorable reminders of the process of algebra.

An added bonus to this book is her connection with young girls on a non-mathematical level. She finds motivating stories from young adults who've struggled with math, but learned to conquer their st...more

I love Danica's math books. My favorite part of this one is her method for memorizing the quadratic equation (page 386), which involves five girls at the mall. As for the suggestion that the formula can be sung to the tune of "Pop Goes the Weasel" -- I'm still working on that .

good book... for a math book

This is a great, easy-to-read book with lots of good explanations. I'm an adult taking intermediate algebra in college, and I recommend this book to anyone taking algebra at any level.
Diana
Really helped me understand algebra, wish I didn't have to return it to the library early.

Love! Love! Love!

Danica McKellar takes algebra from being a frightening experience and makes it all sunshine, rainbows and puppies! Being a ridiculous math lover myself, I found the information she presented to be useful logical and entertaining.

I'm definitely looking forward to http://www.goodreads.com/book/show/13... !

Along the same vein as her pre-algebra book. Format is the same, just more difficult concepts are discussed. Gotta love her for appealing to the middle school girl contingency.

A great resource for its intended audience (8th-grade girls).
