Okay, so I needed a book to read....still can't get my hands on the book club book.........so I raided Zach's bookshelves. He likes Mary Higgins Clark and buys them at the .25 cent library sales. He said his teacher read this to them in 10th grade. I had never read any Mary Higgins Clark, as popular as she is. I was hooked! Very well-written and fun suspense story. And yes, I was able to fall asleep. I was worried about that since all of my reading time is usually at night.....as a result I ofte ...more

When I first read this, I started and then forgot to stop. What it lacks in some qualities it makes up for with the fact that there is no right place to take a break and put it down. I started it one school night and had to stay up until three to finish it. Don't tell my parents.

I have to admit that this is the first book I have ever read a book by this famous author. I love mysteries so I don't know how I have missed such a classic writer. I am only reading it because it was left in a holiday apartment I am renting.
I could not put this book down. It is fast paced, you feel empathy for all the characters as Clark, brings them all to life with their tales from the past and heart wrenching stories. I could visualise Grand Central Station, from the gr

I chose to read the book "A Stranger Is Watching" by Mary Higgins Clark. This book follows the story of a man named Steve as well as his son Neil and Steve's girlfriend Sharon. One day when Sharon is watching Neil alone, a mysterious man only calling himself "Foxy" kidnaps them both. From then on, the story follows individual characters ranging from Steve to Sharon and even Foxy himself as Steve tries to save his girlfriend and his son. We are given several viewpoints of the situation through th ...more

Mary Higgins Clark pretty much never disappoints. I was actually surprised to find that this was originally published in 1977. It was only when I found myself asking why the characters were using payphones rather than cell phones that I looked up the publication date.

A good, fast-paced mystery. I picked it up off my shelves of books I pick up at thrift stores for $0.25-$0.50 while trying to decide what to read next, knowing it would only take me a day or two to finish. It was an engrossing stor

When it comes down to murder, you have to be extremely careful on who you accuse of committing the crime. That decision just might be the deciding factor between your life and death. The author, Mary Higgins Clark, uses plot, character, and setting to make this story so suspenseful. The climax of the story was very extraordinary. Throughout the story she expresses the difficulties people may face while being involved with and dealing with a murder investigation. Inside this novel, Clark reveals ...more

A fast pace plot that doesn't hold the punches. I found this book absolutely amazing and just couldn't put it down - that's not happened for a while! The first few chapters I did find a little confusing, but then the plot just took off in a tangled time line of events. The narrative twists from one character to another building up a complete picture of developments. From the outset the perpetrator is revealed, but you are left with the possibility that everything might not end 'happily ever afte ...more

“A Stranger Is Watching”, by Mary Higgins Clark, was a great book. The best feature of this book was the way it was written. I liked how each chapter was written from another point of view. I also liked how the author made me feel what they were going through. The book was really intense and I couldn’t take my hands off of it.

My favorite thing about this book was how it was written. The book started from a psychopath’s point of view, who is planning on murdering the main characters of this boo

A Stranger is Watching was a very compelling and enthralling read. I was hooked from page one up to the last. I couldn't put the book down. This was my first read that dealt with Capital Punishment.

Two years ago, Steve's wife, Nina, was murdered. And their son witnessed it. His determination to bring the killer to justice paid off when the accused Ronald Thompson is to be executed by the state. But his world turns upside down again when his new love interest Sharon Martin and his son was kidnapp

Recommends it for: mystery lovers
This book was quite good. Alexandra's 3 year old son was kidnapped two years ago which ended in the destruction of her marriage because her husband blamed her for the kidnapping because of the young babysitter she hired. This book has a lot of twists and turns and some good mystery and a surprising ending. I enjoyed it.

A STRANGER IS WATCHING is an interesting book on a few levels, but mostly that it is so unabashedly anti-capital punishment. Like most readers, I like my personal views to be exalted in fiction. I am being cheeky, mostly. Clark does a nice job with the plot as it moves at a rapid case and no one acts too idiotically in order to stop things from happening. The only reason that I can't give it a four-star rating is because I cannot believe that two people who are so ideologically opposite could ma ...more

This is something new. I say 'curiosity gets a cat finish a book'. Mrs. Clark had a different take on this one. I've read some of her books, they all told the bitter approach of death and the sweet meaning of love. They all reveal the antagonist either on the climax or on the end part. This time, she reveals the killer a little too sooner. Then I thought 'now it gets boring because I know who kills and the motive is clear'. But the thought of Sharon and Steve crazy about each other, Neil, Steve' ...more

Mary Higgins Clark is another pop corn read for me and I was lucky enough to pick a bunch of her books at a discount sale. :)

This book deals with a topic i have never been able to make up my mind about - Capital punishment. As a man faces death penalty for a crime he did not commit, the actual murderer is plotting another horrible death in the same family where he wrecked havoc a few years ago. Steve lost his wife Nina 2 years ago to a very angry killer and is only now ready to welcome a new lov

A Stranger Is Watching by Mary Higgins Clark is a great book. This book is especially good if you like suspense. A Stranger Is Watching is about a man named Steve on a quest to get his son and girlfriend back, who have been kidnapped by a mechanic named Foxy, who unbenounced to Steve killed his wife years earlier.
Foxy held the son and girlfriend for ransom, which sent Steve on a wild goose chase to get them back safely. The chase finally came to an end on one night, in one room, under the tra

This book is amazing. I felt captivated and astonished when the book reached the middle act and the spectacular finale. This book will make you feel as if you are being watched yourself, that's how well this story is written. The character development, the setting up of the story, and mind numing and teeth grinding suspense is absolutely fantastic. This book really puts you in the action and makes you create and have feelings for its characters. Mary Higgins Clark is a master of suspense and it ...more

A Stranger Is Watching, by Mary Higgins Clark is a great book. It's main plot is about a man named Steve who tries his very best to find his girlfriend, Sharon and son Neil who've been kidnapped. Although, he's only eligible to complete this mission by clues from the kidnapper. Yet, he and the people around him have clues that could help find this man and maybe Sharon and Neil, but they. Don't know it yet. There is phenomenal details to create suspense and keep the reader entertained. There rar ...more

This was exactly my kind of book a few years ago. But not any longer. I started losing my patience for a whole paragraph that describes how a person stops the car, gets down from it, unlocks the door and kills a stranger. I mean the mundane no longer interests me. I know that after getting down, someone has to walk to the door and ring the bell etc... i also understand that it would be too boring to just write
1) man comes
2) man kills etc.

Am not sure exactly how i would have liked it...

This book was very fast paced. Probably one of the more suspenseful books I’ve read in my lifetime, although I wouldn’t really say it was my type of book. The whole book, page by page, you are forced to be on the edge of your seat. I can honestly recall one day in class when I actually quietly said, “come on!” out loud.
I think the Author uses a great amount of secretive foreshadowing because several times in the beginning, quotes and events in the book affected the end of the book. The book was
