J'adore New York is a fast paced, entertaining debut about moving to New York, not to escape, but as a career move and is full of office politics, ambition, fashion and love. This novel provides a glimpse into the harsh realities New York lawyers face and this novel had enough substance to transform it into a notch above typical chick lit surrounding a move to New York.

She’s in the heart of the big apple, New York City, with hardly a friend in sight and not even an apartment to come home to quite yet. She quickly learns that the only way to survive in the cut throat business of corporate law is to scratch your way to the top or get out of the way. When her new life begins to crumble before her eyes Catherine is left wondering where things went wrong and what choices she should make next.

When BookSparks PR approached me about featuring J'adore New York, I was intrigued. It's not my normal sort of read and I'm not typically drawn to chick-lit but something about this book made me want to read it and not just pass on by.
I think what caught my eye was that this story is told from the point of view of a french woman, Catherine, who has transferred to New York to practice law. She is thrown into a cutthroat world of office politic...more

Catherine Lambert is an attorney with Edwards and White. They are a global corporation. Catherine works in the Paris branch but when she receives a mass email that the company is looking for staff to transfer to their New York location, Catherine accepts. As soon as Catherine walks into the New York office, she instantly has regrets about transferring.

J’adore New York has constantly caught my eye at the bookstore, and when my friend finished it in a matter of days, I asked to borrow it. Figuring I’d enjoy it, I didn’t realize how quickly I’d actually get through it as well! This debut novel from Isabelle Laflèche, a fellow Canadian, is a fun and entertaining read.

Catherine Lambert is thrilled when she applies for, and is offered, the opportunity to transfer from the Paris office of her prestigious law firm to the New York one. Catherine has always been a lover of fashion and can't wait to explore all that New York has to offer her.
What Catherine is not counting on is the fact that New York will be far more challenging that she initially anticipated. Catherine is under constant pressure to meet her billable hours quota, and her bosses aren't afraid to put...more

First of all, I have to start by thanking the author, Isabelle Lafleche, for sending me a review copy. I live in India and it's not cheap to ship anything here. It was really generous and kind of the author to agree to sending me a copy without hesitation.
It was the cover, more than anything, that made me really want to read J'adore New York, isn't it gorgeous? Of course, the blurb pulled me in too.

I loved this book! The Devil Wears Prada meets the lawyer world. My two favorite subjects in books high fashion and a hardworking career. The character of Catherine is a likable character and one that the reader will come to love. Some of the other characters in the book will keep you guessing as to where their loyalties lie. This book is the perfect debate book for Isabelle Lafleche.
See why I love school? My last book, read over Xmas holidays, took me two weeks to get through. I read all but the last few pages of this one in one day. The only reason I will miss my daily five hour commute to school!!
My aunt went on a purging spree and gave me all her girly books, and said that this was her favourite, so it was the top on my to-read list. And I could see why she liked it so much. The story was good, I liked hoe fast-paced it was (although the ending seemed a little too rushed...more

Catherine Lambert, a Parisian lawyer who loves style and a good challenge, takes the opportunity to transfer to her firm’s New York office. New York- the fashion, the glamour, the excitement- Catherine cannot wait for her new chapter in life. But New York turns out to be nothing what she expected. The workload and office hours are much worse than what she put in at Paris, the employees are gossipers, her boss very well may be from hell, and her clients are self-absorbed a-holes. But Catherine is...more

The cover shows a gorgeous woman with the most stylish pink suit-dress I've ever seen, you know you are in for a style conscious character. And yes, Catherine Lambert loves fashion! It plays an important roll to the plot as well.
So you know Catherine finally lands the transfer to New York she has been working so hard to get. She wants to become partner and is determined to work herself to death to get it. Okay not literally, but she works such crazy hours I lose the abi...more

I've really enjoyed reading this book. As a student at law, it scared me a little of the practice in a big office. Especially since the author wrote from her personal experience. But I never had such aspiration anyway ;) It was very easy to read and I will probably read the sequel "J'adore Paris" soon. The only thing I didn't like about the first book was the end. It felt rushed a little and I asked myself after reading it, if it was due to the inexperience of the author as a writer or just the...more

I was so so so thrilled when Isabelle Laflèche told me she would be more than happy to send me a copy of her (absolutely fabulous) debut novel. Let me tell you this: I finished it on the same day it arrived in my mailbox. It was seriously addictive and I loved it so much. J'Adore New York is the third book I've devoured in a day this year and I'm more than happy to gush about how perfect it is to wrap up a fantastic year!

I had such high hopes for this novel. A Parisian woman moves to NYC! Written by a Canadian! Sadly, it just... fell completely flat. The writing is technically sufficient, but the characters are so flimsy and hollow. The protagonist seems to feel superior to all the shallow and judgmental people around her, but she is actually exactly the same as them. I gave up halfway through, but skipping to the end revealed that nothing would change. No character growth (because the character is perfect, of c...more
Fast paced and very fun, J'Adore New York pulled me in to Catherine's story very quickly. In only the first few pages there are horrible bosses, flat tires, crazy taxi drivers, champagne and fraud; entertained I finished the book faster than I had expected.

J'Adore New York was not what I was expecting. I thought there was going to be a lot more New York and far less legal jargon throughout the pages. Due to the specific use of legal terminology used by the author, I, as a reader who knows very little about the law, hardly understood what I was reading. I was really hoping to have far more of beautiful NYC showcased. Despite all of this, the book is well written, there is no denying that. I would read another of Lafleche's works, in hopes that it i...more
I was really disappointed by this book. I never really got a feeling for the main character Catherine, and for someone who is French and moving to NYC, I felt that the book used too many American colloquialisms that a European would just not even think to use. Plus, for a character that was so dedicated to her work and doing the right thing, I was confused by a lot of her choices throughout the book. Definitely not worth the time it took to get through it.
This was about a 2.5 star book but it was sooooo much better than the book I read right before this, I gave it an upgrade. Catherine, a French lawyer, moves to NY and has to deal with extra work, a client that comes on to her and another client who is very handsome. She also is having problems with coworkers. None of the problems are very interesting or compelling, but it was an easy read. Can't recommend.
A lovely and interesting tale! People with innate fashion sense are always enviable. ;) I loved the peek into corporate law and the devastating hard work behind it all.I also loved that this book doesn't have one sex scene, though there is, of course, implied sex.
I actually picked up this book because I have a friend who is obsessed with New York and I'm a sucker for French. It was worth the read.

Ugh. Complete crap. I liked the cover and took a chance. What a waste. Terrible characters, terrible writing, boring storyline, main character was a completely self-obsessed loser. How anyone is supposed to believe that this woman is a high powered lawyer is beyond me. More like a talentless Bridget Jones without the humour.
Granted, not the deepest novel in the world, but I enjoyed very much. First, as a lawyer, I totally identified with the stressful law environment (particularly at firms), the politics and so on, the logistics (yes, that is nerdy lawyerly of me to say). Second, I love the discussion of labels, designers and NYC. Third, the descriptions of French-American culture shock was enjoyable too. The plot wasn't bad either. Will it change your life? Probably not. But if you want to have a fun read and are...more

Isabelle worked for over ten years as a lawyer before giving up her career to write. In 2005, she was responsible for the business affairs of a fashion designer where she developed a penchant for haute couture. She enjoys yoga, running, skiing, and walking her pooch Leo.
Her first novel, J'adore New York, became an international bestseller. The sequel, J'ADORE PARIS, will be published this spring!
