"I give you my child, my bairn into your keeping."

The girl: Cameron (no last name given), has been raised by her 'grandfather' in the northern Highlands of Scotland. Although raised isn't quite the right word, since there was only her 'grandfather' and a nutty housekeeper and Cameron was allowed to run wild like a boy, until one day the old man is on his deathbed and he needs to give her into another man's care...

"What madness had made him ride the length of Scotland in answer to a curt message

In 1746, the battle of Culloden in the Scottish highlands destroyed the old Scottish way of life. The victorious English confiscated the lands of the "traitors", banned the wearing of kilts and playing of bagpipes, and basically tried to assimilate Scotland into "Northern England." So is the point of view of the author Aleen Malcolm in her sweeping historical romance The Taming.

Her hero, Lord Alex Sinclair, is one of the next generations of Scotsmen who decided it was more pragmatic to bend the

4 and Stars! A Poignant Love Story from the Highlands of Scotland After the Battle of Culloden

This post Culloden story set in Scotland, beginning in 1761, tells of Sir Alex Sinclair, the son of a laird who was exiled following the battle in 1746. When we first meet Alex, he is 25 and living in Scotland, called to Cape Wrath at the top of the country by a friend of his father (the author includes a great map!). Another one I read when I was around the 12-14 age range and absolutely loved. Again, who knows if I'd like it today, I really don't care. It's all about the nostalgia :).

I struggled with this book for almost a week. I wanted to like it, want to find some redeeming quality, but I just could not.

I couldn't stand either of the two main characters.

The heroine was only fourteen or fifteen years old and I just could not get over it. I cringed every time the much-older hero described her still-developing body. Not unexpectedly because of her age, she acted childishly. Every other page has her either throwing tantrums or running away. I understood her back story but it

I'm not done reading it but I am on the verge of just putting it aside. I can't tell who is suppose to be the heroine here at this point. The supposed heroine or the mistress.

The hero and the heroine spends 2 weeks together and get into some very heavy patting. She's enchantingly free and unspoiled by her surroundings, this makes her wanton, a wild child, in a intriguingly endearing way. All of this was just so refreshing and wonderful to read about for me. This gi

I don't think me and the Highlands are ever meant to be; I've tried several but can never get into them. Maybe it's all the cannaes and dinnaes? This one had the temptation of being a bodice ripper but it didn't ever get going for me and became a DNF. Yawn. Ye ken me?

Read this romance paperback as a teen. My mom's bookshelves were full of the old fashioned bodice rippers. They were not kind to women.

I'm always hopeful when the book is set in Scotland, but this was not my thing. (sorry, misfit!) The characters were awkward together and their relationship was tiresome. Far too much roaring and crying and "shaking with rage."

But! At least no one said "mayhap."

I would have rated this book 3.5 stars if I could because I did like it. I just got really bored toward the end and it was hard for me to finish it. I wish AM hadn't dragged the ending out. I have the book that follows I just haven't felt like picking it up because I lost interest by the end of this one. I had high hopes for this book due to the reviews and I couldn't wait to get it. I loved it until the last hundred or so pages but that's just me it seems.

Sweet story but tame compared to it's reviews. Anti-climatic ending. I kept thinking of her age as she never stopped acting the fifteen yr old stubborn brat. Otherwise, could have been 4 stars.
