Readers of Bat-comics might remember Michael Lane as one of the ill-fated Batman replacements cooked up by GCPD and the military. Ill-fated is an essential requirement on the CV of anybody who tries take on the Azrael mantle and wear the haunted armour. The miniseries is so convoluted it's almost unreadable. It seemed like Nicieza was trying really hard to pull off a Morrison-style story, but didn't come anywhere close. Not a bad reintroduction of the character to the standard DCU. I cannot see a way that this remains a long running series. Michael Lane has too much emotional baggage, and is already started down the road to insanity. His definitions of justice are more than a little too biblical for my taste. Yet, the character's personality is well defined in this brief TPB.
Very violent, and full of character. The new Azrael is an intriguing character and I look forward to him turning up again.
