I normally love the Dark Hunter series, but I just couldn't get into this one. My faviroute scenes were the ones Nick was in. I am totally in love with him!
Overall, the book was okay, I don't think you need to read it to get the story. So, if you want just skip it. It really won't matter.

OMFG!!! She’s done it to me again!! I settled in for what I knew would be a great PNR book, thinking that it would be a quick and easy read - I should have known better. Yes, I slipped straight back into Kenyon’s incredible world, but an easy read… not so much, I was flipping pages madly and my heart was pounding through most of it. This is the tenth book in the Dark Hunter series, and in addition to the story told in this book, the story arcs continue from previous books, as well as new storylines starting.

This book was primarily about Ravyn, the swoony Were / Dark Hunter who is described early on in the book as “sex on a stick”. Yeah, I’ve gotta agree with that! I loved his character. Apart from his paranormal abilities and his undead-ness (yes that’s a word, I just made it up), he seemed so much like a real guy. His actions and his dialogue were so believable, and he wasn’t over the top in his Alpha-ness, and I really liked that.

Susan was also a great character, with lots of sass and sarcastic humour, and the two of them were perfect together. Their love story seemed real and believable, and I loved that they had a true friendship in addition to the romance.

We got to understand a lot more about the Squire part of the world in this book, which I enjoyed, and there were a lot of new characters, in addition to lots of characters re-appearing from previous books. Thank God for Sherrilyn Kenyon’s website with its database of characters (and cheers to Aestas for hooking me up with it) – it helps keep everybody straight and I’d probably be a bit lost otherwise!

I loved seeing Nick come back into the action, but am in disbelief at what is going on with him. Where is that going to go? And Cael! His story was tragic, and again left me wondering what’s going to happen there? Stryker provided a few surprising moments, and I'm keen for more of his story. Savitar’s cameo was brilliant as always, and had me laughing out loud. And then there’s my beloved Acheron who showed up, and was more tortured than ever (view spoiler). Part of me dreads getting to his book because I can’t bear to see him suffer any more, but then again, I need to see him get his HEA. He’s such an amazing character.

I love this series! Kenyon makes me feel so strongly for her characters, that each book and every little twist is absolutely heart wrenching. But she adds in great action, laugh out loud moments and sensationally swoony romance and I just can’t get enough! Love it!

I found the hardcover edition "Dark Side of the Moon" for $5.99 on the Borders bargain books rack. Sherrilyn Kenyon has a lot of books in print and seems to be quite popular. I'm not into the whole vampire lover genre, but for $5.99, I figured I could at least see what made Kenyon so popular. I must now shamefully admit that I really enjoyed "Dark Side of the Moon". The heroine, Susan, was constantly (and I mean constantly) making some kind of quip about what was doing. Now, I can respect sarcasm and humor in a woman, in anyone, but Susan was a little over the top for me.

I liked Ravyn, though. He was a cutie and a sweetheart. However, I felt that he told her about himself and trusted Susan too easily. All of the Dark-Hunters have felt betrayal; that's how they got to be Dark-Hunters in the first place. That being said, they have the tendency not to trust very easily and not be quite so open with their pasts. While it's true that Susan found out about his past from Dorian, Rave's brother, Ravyn answered her questions a little too honestly to be realistic in the beginning. Why would you tell a complete stranger your secrets?

I thought it was ridiculous that Susan was allergic to Ravyn. At first, it was kind of funny, but after that, I just wanted to shoot one of them to put me out of my misery. I don't really want to hear about how she's sneezing up a storm while she's trying to have sex with Ravyn.

I loved the Squires and other Dark-Hunters. It was really nice to see Otto again after Seize the Night, and I loved Kyl and Leo. The Dark-Hunter Zoe was pretty hilarious, and I liked Cael, even if it was weird for me that he was married to an Apollite woman.

So, Ravyn is the only Dark-Hunter who doesn't want his soul back? Yeah, that was a bit ridiculous, too, in my opinion. Why on earth wouldn't he want to be free of that bitch Artemis so that he could just live his life with Susan?

Nick Gautier, that little shit, needs to leave Acheron alone. I can understand Nick being bitter and angry about his mother dying and his becoming a Dark-Hunter, but I in no way appreciate him blaming Ash for everything, especially Hurricane Katrina. Ash can only do so much people! Even he has rules! That being said, though, I know that Nick gets hooked up with Satara (the bitch) and Stryker somehow and it was nice to see how he got roped into that.

Also, I was pleasantly surprised to see a little bit of a nicer, softer side of Stryker. Now, I know that he's in no way this nice guy, but it's always nice to see the super baddie have a little bit of a soft side.

Overall the book was okay, but it's not one of the Dark-Hunter books that I would rush to re-read.(less)

I think this was the first Sherrilyn Kenyon book I ever read-talk about jumping right in to the Dark Hunter world. I love the Dark Hunters and this is a fun one. Anyone who loves the DH series will love it, and PNR romance lovers will love it. I strongly recommend reading them in order (I did not-it sucked).

Although there were a few disappointments, the majority of the Dark-Hunter series has been entertaining and very worthwhile.

You all know that I don't pick up hardcover books... but I just could not help myself with this one. It was a year after the last book came out, and the mmp wouldn't have come out for another six months... I COULDN'T WAIT THAT LONG!!! Again, another awesome book by Sherri. Argh, frustrating story. Least favorite of all the Dark-Hunters in the series (I've read the first 10, this being 10). The story did have some interesting backstory on Acheron, Nick and Stryker, but not enough to read the book in my opinion. The main romance story was a bust. This book was a little slow in the beginning but really picked up about a quarter of the way through.

Susan meets Ravyn when she picks him up at an animal shelter at the request of her friend. Ravyn is stuck in cat form because of a magical collar and if he doesn't change soon, he will die. Susan gets the collar off of him and the bad guys start showing up. This is where the story started to get interesting.

Susan and Ravyn are fighting the Daimons that seriously have it in for the Dark Hunters. Ash is nowhere to be found (haha, I read Acheron so I know where he was, why he was there and why he couldn't leave!). During all of the fighting, Ravyn and Susan somehow find time to fall for each other, despite the fact that she is allergic to him :) After they do some mattress dancing, they get the magical markings that say they are mates. So basically, the rest of the book was fighting with Daimons while trying to figure out what their master plan was, as well as Ravyn and Susan trying to figure out their relationship aka do we wanna be mates?

I really liked Ravyn in the book, I am a sucker for a hot shapeshifter. Susan's unending sarcastic remarks got on my nerves at first but I started to warm up to her, though I still don't think she could have been the great Daimon fighter she was depite the karate she took years ago. I think I understood this book a lot better because of reading the first half of Acheron before this book. I know who Appollymi is and why she is in Kalosis, I know Ash's background and why he lets the "bitch goddess" treat him the way she does (plus I know he will be free of her and no longer have to pay in flesh and blood for love). Overall, it was a decent book but still doesn't hold a candle to Acheron.(less)

WOW. Lots and lots of badly done sex wrapped very loosely around a...plot? Wait, was that a little plot I saw over there? Too tiny to make out, poor little neglected thing!

I think if a caveman came into the modern world and was introduced to this as his first book, and was told there were libraries in every city in the world with hundreds of these things, he'd hit everyone with it and return home to announce civilization has gone backward. I'm currently reading Robin Hobb's The Mad Ship, which is fantastic but pretty dense and also long at 906 pages. I made a deal with myself that I would take a quick break when I was halfway through and read something lighter.

I got this book for Christmas from a well-meaning relative who knew that I loved to read. That was back in 2007. I was fourteen.

If they knew the contents of this book they would be horrified that they gave it to me, so I never told them.

Well, at fourteen, this book was very shocking to me. I had never read a book with a sex scene before, let alone ones that went into such graphic detail.

Oh I should have got to writing this one before I read another book but oh. I'm a little fuzzy on the details but all in all the book was great.

His entire family, his mother sister-in-law and almost every other female in his village was murdered and his remaining family blamed in on him, killed him and disowned him after he was turned in a Dark-hunter. So he pretty much has no need of people around himself. He is a loner even by the Dark-hunter standards and he never trust anyone.
For some unknown to him reason though once Susan Michaels came into his life all his guards started falling down around him, letting her in like no one else. Something about the nosy and persistent journalist caught his attention and there was no letting go.
Their story was kind of hilarious because Ravyn was in his leopard form when they met and he was held like that by a magic collar that would have killed him if Susan hadn't gotten him out of it. Well okay, maybe it wasn't hilarious to him but hey I LOL a lot.
I've gotta say I was impressed with Susan. She held it together when suddenly the little cat from the animal shelter turned into a very big leopard and then into an incredibly gorgeous naked guy lying unconscious on her living room floor. I guess it was because she thought that it was a trick even though I don't know how she explained the lightnings... Oh well too bad the cops tried to kill her after that. That sealed the deal and willingly or not she had to believe that her life was never going to be the same.
The story built beautifully. It wasn't too fast of too slow. It was just the right pace and the relationship between those two didn't happen instantly . It took some time even though the attraction was there.
We also got to see Nick Goutier again, and he managed to get himself into so much trouble that I have no idea how he's gonna get out of it.
I was sad to read about the disaster in New Orleans... I had no idea what happened right along with Nick because there was no indication in the previous books that something like that was happening ...

Oh well. I really liked this one. I liked it a little more than the other because of the were-hunters again but this was a strange mix and it took some getting used to.
I'm of to read the next book... hmm I guess I'm starting the Dream-hunter series now since this one is next in order...(less)

D'abord, changement de décors. Nous ne sommes plus à la Nouvelle Orléans (dévastée par l'ouragan Katrina), mais à Seattle! On se sent un peu perdu au début sans nos Chasseurs de la Nouvelle Orléans, mais on s'y habitue vite.

Un passé très sombre et douloureux a rendu Ravyn solitaire et méfiant de tous et surtout des humain(e)s. Alors lorsqu'il croise la route de Susan, son passé ressurgit et ses certitudes contre les humains vont être ébranlées.
Susan elle, va découvrir avec stupéfaction le monde réel dans lequel elle vit; ce monde infesté de démons suceurs de sang humain, d'êtres immortels qui ont pour job de protéger les humains des démons. Elle a la tête bien "vissée" sur ses épaules, réfractaire à toutes les histoires farfelues que Léo, son patron, s'évertue à lui faire écrire pour son journal, alors quand elle découvre dans son salon un magnifique léopard de la taille d'un chat et qui se change en un superbe specimen de la gente masculine, tout son univers s'écroule.
Bien malgré elle, elle va suivre cet "homme" et vivre les heures les plus incroyables de son existence! Je ne vous en dis pas plus...
Autre fait nouveau, les démons ont de nouveaux alliés dans leur soif de pouvoir et de sang, ils sont maintenant aidés par quelques humains. Des humains prêts à tuer tous les Chasseurs de la Nuit, qui eux ont l'interdiction formelle de blésser ou tuer un humain.
Ce tome marque également le retour de Nick, ancien écuyer, parmi les Chasseurs et va nous montrer un visage des plus inatendu! Je vous laisse le découvrir, mais on peut dire que dans son genre, Stryker à plus "d'honneur" que lui!
Tout cela donne un épisode très sombre comparé aux autres. On a une réelle sensation de combat entre les forces du Mal et celles du Bien, et il se pourrait bien que certains basculent du côté obscure de la force...
Belle nouveauté aussi (mais ça on s'en doutait déjà!), une révélation est faite sur l'identité de notre cher Achéron. Un Akri très usé et pas au mieux de sa forme.... à suivre.
Même si l'histoire entre les 2 personnages principaux n'est pas l'une des meilleures, j'ai passé un très bon moment et j'ai beaucoup apprécié la relation de tendresse et de respect entre Ravyn et Susan (certes un peu différente de celle de nos autres héros!lol).
On reste néansmoins à la fin un peu sur notre .... faim! J'espère que c'est voulu par SK et qu'on en saura plus sur eux dans les prochains tomes!(less)

Rescued by Susan, he drags her into a world where the Daimons have changed all the rules and the only safety he can find is in his family’s sanctuary – a family that loathes him and blames him for so many of their loved one’s deaths centuries ago.

Now they have to save the city from the Daimons, try to keep the Dark Hunters alive and deal with the added complication of familial angst, were-hunter bonding and Savitar dropping the enraged and troubled Nick Gautier in their laps.

And, of course, Acheron is never around when you need him

Ok I’m going to start with some social justice issues then come back to the plot.

We do have some POC Dark Hunters in what is becoming a habit – whenever you have group scenes of Dark Hunters you will get the odd few who are POC. They show up, we’re given quick introductions showing they’re from Egypt/Japan/Sudan and then, of course, they have to leave because Dark Hunters can’t spend too much time together without draining each other – which is great and has good storylines, but we end up following the Nordic Greeks and other European Dark hunters.

Betrayed by his human mate, Isabeau, he returns from a hunting party to find that she led her human clan to his village where they slaughtered all the women and children. Enter Susan Michaels, a reporter with a penchant for finding herself in situations that are less than desirable. She works for a tabloid newspaper after a scandal destroyed all her credibility in the real news world. Leo, her boss, is a college friend and as it turns out is a squire for the Dark Hunters. Leo’s tabloid paper helps keep the Dark Hunters under wraps, so when Leo sends Susan on an assignment to investigate the musing of an angsty college student blogger he never expects her to cross paths with someone from the Dark Hunter world. Life never seems to work out the way we expect it to, does it?

Susan visits her best friend, Angie, on the way to check out a story for her boss. Angie’s husband, Jimmy is a police detective that believes there is a conspiracy involving the disappearance of several college kids. The meeting with Angie was a ruse to get Susan to hear Jimmy’s theories before he leaves town in fear of his own life. To continue the ruse, Susan agrees to adopt a cat, which she is allergic to, only to get him home and see him change into a man. A very angry, gorgeous, powerful man. From that moment on, Susan finds herself in the middle of a supernatural war that she would’ve never believed possible.

I like this coupling. Susan is spicy and smart and everything that Ravyn likes in a person, even is she is allergic to him which makes for some comedic moments. We get appearances from Ash, Stryker, mentions of Hurricane Katrina, Savitar, and Nick finally comes back into the story. Boy, you want to talk about anger issues? That Cajun boy has them in spades and he’s out to kill Ash. Doesn’t that just play into Stryker’s hand perfectly? Oh yes, my friends, lots of juicy details in this fast paced, action filled book. A great installment in the Dark Hunter series with a huge build up for future books. Cael, anyone? I’m dying to see how that plays out.

I’d give this book four out of five moons.

I like Kenyon's books, but there is some "something," I can't put it into words, that often keeps my ranking into the 3-4 star range, instead of the 4-5+ that most folks post.

This one started wonderful, but I got tangled up a bit in the relationships at the very end. Ash, Savitar and Nick. It's likely that I just need to read the books before this one, in order, but this is the first one that the library has.

Take the main reason we read these books, the romance. Susan and Ravyn are both characters we grow to love and cheer for individually. We just can't muster the energy to cheer for them together. Ravyn's impression of Susan is mild, she's attractive but nothing to turn his head. Susan's allergic to Ravyn! (He's a were-leapard and she's allergic to cats) She can't stand to even be close to him without erupting into sneezing fits. As time progresses, they find they have tragic pasts in common and seem to get along well. When faced with the possibility of being mated, both are actually annoyed and disappointed they might be stuck together for eternity. How are we supposed to buy into this romance if the characters aren't even buying into it?!? Even as things ratchet up and a declaration is imminent, Ravyn claims he might be falling in love with her. That's it!! The story never once gives us a reason to believe in this romance. We have A plus B equals D... we're missing C, folks!!

This is also the first time I have actually been confused over the intricacies of Kenyon's world. Things were assumed but not explained, other things were left hanging, some were just plain confusing. For instance, there is a scene where a daimon (I'm really trying not to spoil here) breathes into a dark-hunter and turns him into a daimon. I didn't know one could do that. It has never even been alluded to in all the books before. That little ability is BIG, why didn't the daimons do this LONG before now? It would have changed EVERYTHING in their world! Absolutely NOTHING was explained.

Over-all this book was head-shaking confusing in all areas and that is SO unlike Kenyon. Hopefully this is a fluke and her next story will be back on track and scrumptiously entertaining again.

I have thought about flouncing this book and start DH #10 but then Savitar showed up, slapped me in the face and told me to keep on reading or...and then he lost interest and said there was no OR about it. I have to read this book to get to Acheron's book...and eventually his book. Lol. There are twenty books in this series. TWENTY! Other than the BDB series, I have this six-book limit per series. I really liked this edition of the DH series. It was a nice change of pace to have a hero who still actually had a family...even if said family is a bunch of jerks. It was also nice to have a tough-kick-a-little-butt-cause-I-trained-like-a-dark-hunter-too kind of girl for the heroine. I like this series, and I like the Were-Hunters. That is the only reason this book gets 3 stars.

I was not into the location, I was not into the plot, and I did not love Ravyn and Susan. I feel like these characters and this story came out of nowhere. After the steamy love and hotness of Wren's story, this was just lacking. It made me happy that I don't have to wait for the other books that came after it so that I can wash this book out of my memory.

I had a really hard time getting through this one and to be honest, I skimmed through about 50% of this book. Although I'm not a huge fan of S.K. I find her books to be quick and easy fluff reads. I enjoyed most of the book up to this one. Although I'll admit, the repetativness of them makes it hard to read some times and a lot of it is so kampy. The supernatural elements and the world-building (and the longevity of the hero!) are all superficial. I feel like a whole lot of mythology (from random sources) has been mixed up willy-nilly with the modern vampire-urban-fantasy ethos without much integration. As an urban fantasy novel it’s a disappointment. As a romance novel, it’s not bad. The sex scenes are steamy. The hero and heroine have complementary tragic pasts that mean they “understand” each other at a gut level. Kenyon has a tendency to tell, rather then show (and be rather trite about the telling, too) – but when she does show their behavior towards one another it’s rather sweet.

The heroine, Sue, is something of a MarySue – she’d disturbingly competent at EVERYTHING (journalism, sword swinging, marshal arts, shooting…), and everyone on-screen seems to admire her (it’s just the “world” that’s betrayed her). She also has the urban-fantasy requisite smart-mouth, which makes for some witty repartee. The hero, Ravyn, is your standard tall, dark, handsome and brooding hero with a Tragic Past (tm). He has the added bonus of being immortal. And a were (a were-kitty, rather then werewolf. But still...) My biggest complaint with their romance is the element of divine decree involved in it – I grew out of liking the idea of Recognition (a la Elfquest) a long time ago. It now feels like a cop-out to me; a way of allowing the hero and heroine to skip the relationship-building step and skip directly to the happily-ever-after part.

It’s actually the non-romance plot elements that intrigue me. Dark Side of the Moon is obviously part of a long story arc. I’m not sure how much the non-romance plots were advanced during this novel, but some significant screen-time was accorded them. It’s reminiscent of the long-term plot elements in Laurell Hamilton’s Meredith Gentry series, except that more is happening (and more time was devoted to them!). Since Dark of the Moon is in middle of the series (and I haven’t read the others), I’m not sure where the plot is going (or where it’s been) but it’s got enough potential that I might read others in the series next time I want romantic brain candy.(less)
