A nice solid reintroduction of the character (and hopefully the return of Mike Grell washes Bruce Jones "re-imagination of the character out of people's minds). Yes, the modern man tossed into a savage environment dates back to ERB, but Grell does some things better than most. His female characters, Tara, Mariah and Shakira are the equal of the male companions. The little science tossed in that from the empire that destroyed itself. Great artwork, good writing. This wasn't what I was expecting, but it is a great reintroduction of the character. Highly recommended for any Grell fans, and also any Edgar Rice Burroughs fans.

Mike Grell (born 1947) is a comic book writer and artist.

Grell studied at the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay, the Chicago Academy of Fine Art, and took the Famous Artists School correspondence course in cartooning. His entry into the comics industry was in 1972, as an assistant to Dale Messick on the Brenda Starr comic strip.
