This book is the zenith of the entire Lemony Snicket collection. It is the piece of the puzzle that makes you sit up and say, "Good heavens, there IS a plot!"
When I read the first few Series of Unfortunate Events books, it was only to familiarize myself with what I was told from all sides was sure to be the next Harry Potter phenomenon. I wasn't terribly impressed with the first two or three volumes -- cute idea, I thought, but nothing that really grabbed me. A couple of ...more

I am a long-time fan of Lemony Snicket's Series of Unfortunate Events. I began reading them when I worked as a library page back a few years ago and was hooked on the tale of the unfortunate Beaudelaire orphans. Sure the books have their flaws and after a while, you did start to wonder if there would ever be an end, but the end came, and it was satisfying.
So, the other day I was pondering how to make some use of all my Book Mooch points and I decided to order the Lemony Snicket books and f...more

Really a continuation of the Series of Unfortunate Events, this "unauthorized autobiography" attempts to answer many questions one might have after reading the initial books. Expecting nothing less, of course the autobiography only leads to more questions.
Filled with diary excerpts, newspaper clippings, coded messages and mysterious photographs, each chapter is meant to answer a FAQ. Instead what occurs is a wild goosechase of a read, leaving one with more questions than o...more

The only reason I didn't like this book was simply because I didn't understand it. However someone bought it for me- along with unfortunate events books 1,2,6 & 7!!- so I decided to give it a go. I have to confess that I have never gotten into the unfortunate events books probably because even though I think he is a very unique writer & can be very funny, he can also be very fustrating. Now & then he wanders off on tangents, for example explaining why he had written a certain word, w...more

People who have read the rest of the series...
I've always has hundreds of questions about these books, ever since book one. I couldn't wait for the 13th one to come out, maybe it would clear up some things. I was wrong, it just left more questions. I had to get a book with a higher lexile score when I chose this book for my book report, so I chose this, hoping that I would finally understand the Baudelaire's story. The beginning looked like it would clear everything up for me, I was really excited about it. When I finished the book, I was d...more

What I learned: Kids books can make me laugh out loud. i took this out because i thought it might give me some background on the lemony snicket series of books that kids are reading in my classes, and i wanted to be able to have the background to ask them comprehension questions when we're reading, and know what they're talking about if they do go on and on about things, as at least one kid has a tendency to do. There wasn't a plot really, just a lot of randomness in one little place, which make...more

although i did like a series of unfortunate events, this book was...well, it didn't really give me any information about the author or help to tie up all the many many loose ends left dangling after the sadly sullen series was over. so it's actually not an autobiography. at least the books told you up front that they would be unfortunate and unhappy.

Now, I'll be the first to admit, I have read no other books in the Lemony Snicket line, but I don't find it much of a loss. The style of writing is playful and unusual which are good things to stretch an author and readers muscles alike, but it also tends to get quite annoying after awhile. I was glad when I could put this one down.

lemony snicket is a great writer but gets pretty annoying at the beginning of every chapter b acting lke the reader is a complete moron and explaining things that ppl probably already know. Depending on what he is talking about it is sometimes kinda funny... This book i accually didnt read.. i added it by accident but o well... idc

I really liked the "Series of unfortunate Events" by Lemony Snicket. Lemony Snicket is a very mysterious guy and its hard to even know who he is. However this book didn't really answer any of the questions one may have about this guy. It was confusing and messed up, with bits and pieces of newspaper and other reading material.

That's perfect! Lemony knows how to go over your mind and make you laugh-become angry! Especially the list of names in last pages and pics in chapter beginning are great!!! I love lemony! amusing one he is!

Interesting book. Gave me a bit more information about the Series of Unfortunate Events books. Anyone who read the series and wants to know a bit more should read it.

This series is outstanding relative to other young-adult fiction (read: Harry Potter); always funny, and the meta-story is executed brilliantly throughout the series.

Maybe I should've read this after I finished the series. I didn't get really into it until the end, though it's a clever conceit for an epistolary "autobiography."

Buku berisi potongan-potongan teka-teki tentang Lemony Snicket. Gila dan lucu. Dan sama sekali tidak memperjelas siapa itu Lemony Snicket hehehe...

Kind of disappointing... but I was reading it as I multi-tasked, so I perhaps I didn't give it a fair chance.

Fun, but it gets frustrating to me when you're lead on and on and on without resolution to some topics.

Barely makes any sense and is hard to follow but its fun to look at the picture and just flip through.

Fun supplement to the Series of Unfortunate Events that really poses more questions than it resolves.
