I loved Reeves YA debut Bleeding Violet. It was original, strange and beautiful. Slice of Cherry has the same qualities, the only other thing they have in common is the setting of Portero, TX.

6/20/11 ** Picture book biography of Leon Foucault, the untrained scientist who, in 1851, finally figured out how to prove that the earth spins on its axis. This beautifully illustrated volume shows a scientist at work: notetaking, measurements, failed experiments, etc.

A detailed author's note adds information that didn't fit smoothly in the picture book narrative; likewise, there is a glossary and bibliography of additional resources on Foucault's life.

An underachiever in school makes good. He came up with a very elegant solution to how to prove the earth spins. One reviewer said that he sounded like he had Autism spectrum disorder, which makes sense.

Enjoyed learning about Foucault. It would have been nice for a real sketch of Foucault to have been included somewhere in the book.

Fascinating biography, illustrations are unique with some pages in panels this really adds to the work.
