I was so nervous to read this book! Things were settled to a point in the last book, The Demon in Me, but a lot of larger issues were still up in the air. Darrak and Eden still needed to find a way to separate without hurting either one of them, and they needed to find a way to break Darrak’s curse if they had any hope of ever trying to have a relationship.

This is a book that I picked up entirely on a whim a couple of weeks ago. The cover was super-sexy (I know, I am a cover-slut) and the story line was intriguing. What I didn't realize at the time was that this is the second book in an Urban Fantasy series. No, I haven't read book #1, but that did not affect my enjoyment of this book at all. This is a fabulous book with a really interesting and creative premise.

This is a book that I picked up entirely on a whim a couple of weeks ago. The cover was super-sexy (I know, I am a cover-slut) and the story line was intriguing. What I didn't realize at the time was that this is the second book in an Urban Fantasy series. No, I haven't read book #1, but that did not affect my enjoyment of this book at all. This is a fabulous book with a really interesting and creative premise.

Eden is a human. She's psychic and has, on occasion, worked with the police on their investigations. It was while she was on one of those investigations that a person was killed. That person just happened to be possessed with the archdemon Darrack. He found himself in need of a new host and Eden was there, but his possession of Eden is different than any other human possession that he has done over the last 300 years. Because she is psychic, she can hear him in her mind during the night when he resides in her body. During daylight, he has his own physical form...it just can't be further away from her than 100 yards.

During the progression of the first book, somehow Eden ended up as a Black Witch. The issue with that is, calling on her black magic will doom her soul to hell as will having sex with the very sexy Darrack. They had sex once in the last book so she already has a mark against her soul. Neither one of them want any more, so no more sex, regardless of how bad they both want it.

It's a very sexy book with a lot of sexual tension. Eden & Darrack spend all the time in very close proximity, so it is difficult for them to resist the draw to one another.

Darrack has also been dealing with some other issues. He has always been a demon...Satan created him from hellfire, so he has never had to deal with human emotional issues. He has never had a conscience or had to deal with any kind of human feelings, but after 300 years within human hosts, especially the goodness of Eden, that is changing. Humanity is becoming part of his persona especially when it comes to Eden and his growing feelings for her. This is even more apparent to him as his friend and fellow archdemon Theo comes on the scene and starts razzing him about his newfound humanity.

This was, quite simply, a great book with a great story and a great cast of characters. I can't wait to see where the series goes from here. I don't know if I will go back and read book #1. I am sure it would be an equally fantastic read, but I feel like I know everything about what happened there. Regardless, I can guarantee that I will be reading book #3, That Old Black Magic, which comes out December 6th.

Through no choice of his own, Darrak, an archdemon. He is condemned. He possesses a living being’s body, but only for a short time. Once he drains them of their life energy, he passes on to his next host. Now, he finds himself in Eden. Rather than just a spectator, at sunrise he returns to human form with limited demonic abilities until sunset when he vaporizes and returns to possess Eden. Even there, Darrak and Eden can communicate. And for the first time in his existence, he has human emotion. Something Wicked is part of Michelle Rowen‘s Living in Eden Novels series. If you haven’t read Book 1, The Demon in Me, I encourage you to do so, because Darrak rocks! He’s just a few steps below the original bad guy.

Ms. Rowen’s novel is emotionally driven. It did seem that Eden fit her name too well. I never thought of her as a Black Witch. Many times I thought she was too naïve for our time. As I kept reading Ms. Rowen kept be absorbed with this story. The character’s motivations were strong, and I was never sure which direction it would take them. Eden grown to care for Darrak, can she keep a dark secret from him? Is Darrak so desperate for independence that he will risk Eden’s soul? Read it to find out.

Couldn't put it down. Hubby dear asked me if I was going to go to sleep and I just looked at him and flipped the remainder of the pages with a "What do you think?" look on my face. I then proceeded to continue reading pieces of it to him. He laughed & commented on how it's been awhile since I've done it to that extent. Couldn't help myself. Absolutely terrific!!

Huh huh. The blurb actually makes this sound like a reasonable premise, which is a credit to the craftsmanship of the wording, since it would be a challenge to tone this description down into something readable. Here's my blurb:

This one is a good read, but lacks the energy the first book had. We are introduced to more demons and Lucifer in this one. Darrak struggles with himself. Should he go back to being a bad demon or follow his heart and love Eden? Don't get me wrong, this was a decent story. But I prefer a bit more action and suspense, and romance too.

Darrak is slowly draining Eden of energy, but when they sleep together parts of her soul turn black as part of a curse Darrak is living with. They have to find a way to break the curse before it’s too late.

There are a lot of things going on in Something Wicked, from a new next door neighbour who isn’t as timid as he looks to Leena (werecat/panther) & Darrak having a blow out. There’s also a big honking WTF moment at the end & I can tell you now, Eden’s gonna be pissed. The attraction between Eden & Darrak is explosive, hot hot hot. I don’t blame her for getting a little soot on her soul for Darrak.

I can’t tell you enough just how much I’d love to have a demon in me…okay that sounded really bad. I meant Darrak, okay that still sounds bad! Ha. I love Darrak, he’s snarky, bad but he’s gaining more and more humanity..which means he is falling for Eden hard. Eden is so level headed, one of these days she’s gonna blow. She keeps taking all sorts of bad things and living through them, maybe with the help of a little black magic but it’s always in a life or death situation!

I have always loved the way Michelle Rowen writes, she’s snarky, fresh & so original. Her world building is urban, I can visualize Eden & Darrak in Toronto..but you could picture them in any city. The characters are always hilarious, but they are strong & emotional when need be. A book by Michelle Rowen is like a hot cup of tea on a cold day, hot! I adore this series.

Darrak's old friend Theo was Darrak's best friend. along time ago they even made a plan to kill all 7 lords and take over the underworld and rule together.
Andy finds out that Darrak's a demon and that creatures of the sort do exist, but he didnt run away screaming and all...he was kinda excited.weird reaction for a human right?

Some very disturbing things happened to eden in this book, first she almost got killed because a malleuis member found out that she's a black witch, and trheir rule is to kill all black witches. she finds out her father's an angel, literally. lucifer summoned eden and told her that he need her help and that he's tired of living in hell and wants to be accepted in heaven again. but eden refused, so he brought up the fact that he has her mother's soul, and that that if she helps him he wont accept for the mother to be in hell, and instead decline so that she can have a chance to be in heaven(accepted), and if shes not she will be a drifter but anything s better that being in hell.
he also told eden that not to tell darrak about anything, because darrak has agreed with theo to find the weapon and kill lucas for the throne.
Later on theo steals an angels power, and eden and darrak kicked theo out and didnt want to follow his plan anymore, while andy was doing his job and was taking pictures of a werewolf who suspects to be cheating on his gf, the werewolf found out that he was there and lets just say things happened and andy is now a werewolf.*infectedSome problems show up again as ii read today, and some of those things are, another leader from the underworld is in the real world and is gaining power so that he can kill lucifer, darrak found out about lucifer and lucifer kissed eden for saving him, and some of her darkness went to him(because part of his punishment is that he attracts darkness).
Later in the end theo was killed and asmo was killed and lucas set eden's moms soul free and almost killed darrak but eden saved darrak.Andy is in total denial about his werewolf side. xD

I really just don't know how to rate this series. I do love it and I definitely can't stop reading it but there's just something that's holding me back from considering it an astonishing series. At the end of the first book, Eden had become a black witch, like the black witch who originally cursed Darrak. So, while she genuinely was beginning to like Darrak, she had two big downsides above and beyond absolutely no privacy. (1) While she has all of this great power, she can't use it without slowly turning her soul black. And, (2) with every other host, Darrak has drained them till he killed them. And, they see no reason to believe that Eden will fare any differently.

Possible mild spoilers....

In this book, they've started their quest to find someone to break the curse and separate them, as the witch that cursed him was killed in the first book. But on their way to finding a contact, they bump in to Theo, Darrak's former demonic best friend, who hasn't had centuries of close contact with humans to humanize him.

Darrak finds himself torn. Theo thinks that once Darrak is returned to his former glory, he will regain his former mental view on life. So Darrak is unsure whether to accept his new "good guy" persona, or if he should try to be aloof, or even cruel.

So, while the first book was mainly about getting over Eden's fear and seeing them adjust to each other, this book has a lot of strife as Darrak PMS-es while he decides if he wants to be a good guy or a bad guy.

By the way, Darrak and Theo are archdemons. Created by Lucifer originally as succubus-es, before being promoted to be exclusive guards to Lucifer. They are -- or rather Darrak was and Theo still is -- big bads.

On the other hand, we find out that Eden's father was an angel, making her a nephilim. Talk about a mis-matched pair. But there is good news in that; it might be that Eden's angelic half will keep Darrak from draining her to death.

Good read. I'll still say this is urban fantasy, rather than paranormal romance, but it looks to be the type with a monogamous couple throughout. Similar to Eileen Wilks' "World of the Lupi" series.(less)

I really enjoyed the first in this series, The Demon in Me, and was really looking forward to this one. I’m not sure if it was partially due to my Dark Hunter obsession or if it was the varying POVs, but I didn’t connect to the characters as well in this one. Not to say I didn’t like it, because I did enjoy the book. I’ll definitely be looking forward to the next in the series.

This is the sequel to The Demon in Me, and shows the same interesting balance of a partner/love interest who is inherently evil. This time, though, the focus is much more on Darrak than Eden as he struggles to comprehend what he’s become and tries to recover his former self whatever way he can.

While that might sound selfish, it’s not as selfish as an arch demon might hope.

He wants to believe his dependency on her, and the fact that she’s the first of his hosts to hear him, is why he wants to preserve her existence. Though why he’s so obsessed with the color of her soul he can’t quite explain. His life would be more enjoyable, if not easier, if they gave in to their attraction, but thanks to the curse left by the same witch who destroyed his body, lovemaking only turns her soul blacker, something he refuses to be responsible for.

But before you get the sense that this book is all angsty, Michelle Rowen doesn’t write that way. Not only are they on a desperate search to restore Darrak’s power so he can stop feeding on Eden, an effort that seems doomed to failure, but they’re being hunted by a group of power fanatics determined to eradicate all demons and any tainted by the dark even the slightest bit.

Something Wicked plays with the odd, and very dangerous, not quite relationship developing between Darrak and Eden, while also adding a mysterious human group and some insight into who Darrak was before that allows for a lot of tension and desperate circumstances on top of the moral quandary and relationship issues. It’s a complex novel that explores real questions of who we are and what defines us, but at the same time it’s a thrilling adventure. While definitely in the same world, Something Wicked takes the scenario began in The Demon in Me along new paths with some big surprises on the way, surprises that are well seeded if only the reader knew what to look for.(less)

While trying to find a powerful wizard to break the curse, Eden and Darrak run into another archdemon, who just so happens to be Darraks best friend from Hell. While, Theo was as bad as a Demon visiting Earth can be, I still enjoyed his character enough to see what was going to happen between Darrak and Theo. I wanted to know if Theo was going to be the typical Demon and betray everyone he knows. The addition of a new neighbor next to Edens apartment was also a nice story that intertwined with the plot. Considering who the new neighbor is, it makes for some interesting reading once Darrak and Eden figure it out.

Now just because Darrak and Eden aren't suppose to be romantically involved, doesn't mean the book lets us down on the sexy factor! The scenes that are in the book are smoking hot and can make you envious for your own Demon!

While I liked this book as a sequel, I didn't enjoy it as much as the first book. Darrak did have his Demon personality out more in this book than his humanity personality. There were times I just wanted to have Eden exorcise him and end it already because of his smart ass attitude and lies. But just as I was hoping Eden would call Demon-Busters-Are-Us, Darrak changes my feelings with his smooth talking persona.

While I still enjoyed the first book better than this one, I am still looking forward to the final book in the series. Their are some storyline plots that I just need to know about, such as the mysterious captive in the dungeon, and I need to know if this sexy couple is going to get their happily ever after!(less)

Darrak has to be one of my favourite male leads. He never fails to impress and have me giggling my head off. Someone else who never fails to impress is Michelle Rowen. Our main characters learn more about themselves and each other and the supporting cast is just as fascinating as the stars.

Eden, now a black witch, is having difficulty dealing with all her power causing her to react to the extreme and doubt her own feelings. We go a a bit of an emotional rollercoaster ride with her but Darrak is no different. He's having trouble dealing with all the humanness inside him, bursting to break free. Our lovebirds that can't touch keep the sexual tension going making the love scenes even hotter. A blast from the past tries to corrupt our delicious Darrak confusing Eden even more. Throw in the mix a little visit from the Devil and you know things are going to get crazy. I loved the Devil the most and it looks like he'll have more page time in the future too. Yay!

The big thing I hate here is that it's so drilled into us that Darrak having feelings in general isn't normal for a demon but Darrak's old friend was clearly in love with a human a while back. Seems kind of conflicting if you ask me. Moving on, as with the previous novel I didn't see most of the surprises coming, most especially Eden's family history. Unless I forgot something from the first book which is entirely possible. So, I loved Something Wicked a lot and only hated it a little which means it's a keeper for me and a series that I'll be looking forward to with every release. PNR lovers should get a kick out of this.

I really loved this book. I by accident found it in the romance section of Borders and I dont ususally like the romance books but I thought I'd give it a try. It really surprised me. The romance in it is done very tactfully and not all through the book. Its more on the lines of a paranormal mystery with a little spice thrown in for good measure.

I didn't like this one as much as the first, the demon is so sure that he'll be back to being demonic once he's free of the curse half-heartedly gets a start on that here with some pettiness, which detracts from his appeal. There are some interesting discoveries for the pair, but I just can't say that they will make me want to read the next book.

this was very different than what i normally read as it is a series of books with the same couple in all of them to my understanding ... I loved the concept ... eden is possessed by a demon but he can take form during the day as long as he is near her . good read with alot of hmmmmm wow in it

Pretty cool sequel for The Demon in Me...

Some information is released and new mysteries are presented...

It totally follows the same structure than the first one, that I liked so much, full of unexpected twists and witty dialog among the characters and the story is still interesting enough for me to continue reading through the series.

The book was interesting. Only a bit too longer than it should have been. Darrak, as always, was really interesting and Eden was really sweet, forgiving him and all. Leena was pretty nice, too. All in all, a good book.

I cannot wait until December so I can finally see how this series ends. This was a great read. I love Darrak! Reading from his POV was my favorite parts of this book because you can see how he struggles with being a demon but trying to be good but still wanting to be bad because that's what a demon is supposed to do. The ending was a little predictable.

I have never found a book by Michelle Rowen that I didn't love....and this is no exception! I love how she explores the concepts of is good really good/all good and is bad really bad/all bad in this series. I am definitely looking forward to That Old Black Magic!
