Fans of erotic romance with a bit of suspense
Pretty hot book and a decent story to boot. Beth Kery has written some of my favorite books in the past few years (Wicked Burn, Daring Time, Release), and while Explosive doesn't quite reach the caliber of my favorite, "Daring Time", it's still a very entertaining read.
To summarize: The heroine, brown-eyed blonde, classy, conservatively dressed thirty-something Dr. Sophie Gable practices internal medicine in Chicago. She knows the hero, 6'4" dark haired, green-eyed, thirty-something hunk, invest...more

Looks like I'm in the minority of not liking this book. There are a lot of 4-5 star reviews/ratings, but I feel like I'm being generous if I give this 2.5 stars. I just got very bored reading this book and couldn't get into the story at all.
Summary:
Sophie Gable is a doctor who has developed a crush on the brother of one of her associates patients. The two have been dancing around each other for a while, but Thomas Nicasio is going through a tough time with the recent deaths of his...more

2 1/2 stars at best. When the story started I thought it was very interesting and intense. The hero Thomas is going through a PTSD attack and is found at an acquaintance, Sophie- the heroine's, vacation home dazed and confused. Since she is a doctor and aware of the horrible drama going on in Thomas's life she feels for him. They had met before and have been attracted to each other from afar, but have never had a real conversation, but she is who he searches out in his current mental state. It i...more

My first Kery book. I had read reviews, which was good, because I then knew what to expect. I agree with everyone who says the beginning was confusing with the back and forth in the story timeline. I was surprised, however, by how good the mystery / suspense subplot; I really thought it was great! Had this been a regular romantic suspense - or even only a suspense novel - it would have been excellent, with more time therefore being spent on developing that part of the story. I don't kn...more

Explosive by Beth Kery took me into the lives of two extraordinary individuals. Dr. Sophie Gable and Thomas Nicasio possessed a volatile physical chemistry that leapt of the pages. But it was Sophie’s nature as a doctor that gave additional insight to her caring nature. She wasn’t prepared for Thomas to show up on her doorstep and immediately found something was off. As a friend she helped him in the best way she knew how, by keeping him ignorant of the knowledge she possessed. As a friend that...more
Sure wish I’d taken the time to check out the cover of this book before I started reading my e-ARC. It’s perfect for the story. Thomas has suffered a family tragedy and turns to Sophie for comfort as he tries to break through an amnesiac haze to get on with his life. The man can’t keep his hands and mouth off of her. This is one hot, hot, hot, hot, hot, hot — throw in about another 50 or so hots — read. If you’re looking for a sexy, sensual, and downright sinful erotic romance, this book is what...more
Very good for steamy, lusty, intense, erotic sex. Pretty good suspense with amnesia, organized crime, and murder.

The mystery, suspense, and SMOKIN-HOT sex made this book a very delicious read.
Thomas was a dominant, sexy, possessive amnesiac looking for answers and safe harbor at Sophie’s door. Already being acquainted with and attracted to Thomas, the compassionate Sophie takes him in and tries to help him put together the pieces of his broken memory. The intensity of his need for Sophie was so powerful it was almost overwhelming. I absolutely loved the two of them together.

Dr, Sophie Gable always noticed when Thomas Nicasio was around. Whether in the elevator going to his office or whether he was in her office waiting for his brother, he was just the type of man to catch and hold a woman's attention. Other than some brief casual flirting Thomas had never given Sophie any indication the attraction was mutual. Until Thomas shows up at her vacation house dazed and obviously injured. After a night of explosive passion, Thomas is gone the next morning, only to reappea...more
Man this was one smoking hot book!!
I will admit that I was very confused just what was going on at first, but I think that was done on purpose. Thomas had a trauma related memory loss, but somehow he felt that Sophie was a safe place for him. The only time that he felt normal was when he was having sex with her, and whoooo boy, was there a lot of sex. Thomas is very much an alpha male and asserted himself. Sophie was game for anything and everything he wanted to do. She also was worried about hi...more

This was hard read with a story that didn't go anywhere. Thomas and Sophie work in the same building and have an attraction to each other but have never acted upon it. Suddenly out of the blue Thomas turns up at Sophie's home dazed and confused and they end up having sex, the next time they meet they immediately have sex again after which Sophie realises that Thomas doesn't remember the first time. There are FBI agents and a hint at organised crime, Sophie realises that Thomas is suffering from...more
Explosive is a page turning mystery with plenty of suspenseful moments. The story opens with Thomas being frustrated because chucks of his last few days are missing. Without really thinking he seeks out the one person that he really shouldn’t involve in his mess of a life.

Since reading and loving Wicked Burn a few years ago, I've become a big fan of Beth Kery and eagerly read everything Kery has published, and her newest book, Explosive, is right up there with Wicked Burn and Daring Time as one of her best.

I wanted to really like this book, but I can't rate it higher than 3.5 stars. If the whole book was like the last third, maybe it would have been 4 stars. It seemed like it was just page after page of the same thing: Thomas shows up completely out of it, Sophie wants to comfort him and be there for him, they have sex. Repeat. I truly did believe in her falling for him, and the sex scenes were hot, but the whole mystery aspect of what happened to Thomas was soooooooooooooooo drawn out without bei...more
I'm not a huge fan of contemporary romance and yet for some reason I keep coming back and reading them. Although the beginning of this book left me twitching a bit and looking around in confusion, I ultimately liked it. Most of the confusion stemmed from Thomas' state of mind when Sophie encounters him at her lake house. His confusion leads us in circles at first and it isn't until Sophie starts unraveling the mystery of why he showed up so unexpectedly that things begin to fall into place.

I just don't know what to say about this.... I was kind of excited to read it given the reviews, but there was so much information in the first 50 pages that I honestly had no clue what was going on. Apart from a strange guy coming to Sophie's house, having sex with her and then leaving! Hmmmm...
The 'ender' for me was this sentence, "He saw her dark brown eyes widen when she saw his strange reaction to seeing her." I read it 8 times before I got what it should say.

Suspenseful, betrayal, love... very good. Nothing was predictable, everything was very solid and just made you want to read more and more so you could get to the bottom of it. Sophie and Thomas made a great couple and the fact that he trusted and protected her at the same time and inadvertently was very sweet. The way she kept desperately trying to help him because the idea of him hurt made her hurt spoke volumes even before she admitted to herself her feeling for him.

At the heart of Beth Kery’s latest romantic suspense are two self-sufficient people who are longing to belong. Dr. Sophie Gable is a woman who instinctively needs to take care of anything or anyone who needs help. Thomas Nicasio is an ex-Navy explosives specialist who finds himself in the vulnerable position of needing help and not knowing why. Explosive is a dynamic, immediate and sensual read. Doctor Sophie Gable had seen Thomas Nicasio watching her in the office where his brother worked, but he had always kept his distance. She's on summer vacation and he shows up unexpectedly on her dock at the lake, looking mussed and dazed. She knows he's been dealing with a lot in his personal life lately, but until now their lives had barely crossed. Now he's saying he came for her. They get their groove on and he splits before she wakes up. The next time she...more

As a reader, I don’t think I could find a more apt description of Dr. Sophie Gable and Thomas Nicasio’s love story then the title of the novel. ~“Explosive”~ As a character, Thomas himself is a powder keg of whirling emotions related to something that has happened to him during a short period of time when he suffered memory loss. Sophie knows something horrible has happened to Thomas, but what? She has her suspicions and is very worried about the man who turns up on the dock of her summer retrea...more

fans of erotic romantic suspense and of course, all Beth Kery fans
There’s nothing better then having an erotic-romantic suspense jump right in and immediately hook you. Literally, first sentence, Thomas Nicasio has interrupted Dr. Sophie Gable’s annual summer getaway by appearing on her lake house dock. This is the sexy, ex-Navy explosives specialist who has been been giving her heated glances and, not always discreetly, checking out her body. Though they’ve only had a few flirty conversations in the lobby of her medical practice, it’s Thomas’ face Sophie sees...more
I started reading this last night, and finished it tonight.I couldn't put it down.Loved the characters and the story. It's suspensful but also very steamy!.Some scenes were quite full on. The author sure has some imagination!. Thomas is suffering from a recent trauma which has left him emotionally damaged and his involvement with Sophie becomes more intense. All she wants to do is help him,but she is keeping secrets to protect him, which could interfere with their relationship

"La teneva delicatamente per le braccia, accarezzandola piano con dita lievi come ali di farfalla suscitandole mille brividi d'emozione che le incresparono la pelle"
Un romanzo molto dolce nelle scene erotiche (e anche davvero contemporaneo visto che in una scena lei infila a lui un preservativo) anche se forse nel raccontare i traumi passati del protagonista l'autrice ha avuto la manina un po' pesante...

This is my 3rd Beth Kery endeavor. So far, I liked 'Exposed to You' the best. But this one wasn't bad either.
A lake house, lots and lots of sex, amnesia, Guy Fawkes....erm fox, and Chicago mobsters! What's not to love?
I wish the author had spent some more time on Sophie's background story, as clearly she has some family issues as well. Also the ending felt rushed, everything happened almost simultaneously.
Nonetheless, good for a quick time passin' read.

This was an interesting book. On the one hand, holy crap there was a lot of sex. But on the other hand, there was this sort of mystery that was woven well. Would he ever remember their first night? Why was he blocking it out? My goodness, they have such a strong, almost animalistic, attraction to each other. They couldn't get enough of each other, which was good for someone who likes to read about people having sex, lol. But wow, there was a LOT of that. And the climax of the mystery was pretty...more
Very good story, with a little mystery & plenty of steamy scenes. I really liked it, my kind of book because as much as I like the sex & romance, it's nice to actually have a story too. Plus then when people ask what I'm reading I can say, "oh some mystery about a guy with PTSD, who's a potential witness against the Mob who falls in love with a doctor... Blah blah blah" instead of "oh just some trashy soft porn" ;)
Really enjoyed this. A very well done erotic romantic suspense. The love scenes were not gratuitous/repetious at all but tied to characterization and the development of the relationship (and to a lesser degree, the plot). But wished there was a bit more plot and a little less sex. In fact I put the book aside for a couple of weeks because of this very reason. But when i picked it up again I devoured the rest of the book.
