When I first read The Body Finder I was struck with the feeling I had found something special, complete with the a great plot, heartwarming romance, suspense, and character development. So when I heard there would be a sequel I found myself counting the days until the release. Then (finally) I read Desires of the Dead and I must say I feel a little let down.

I stayed up all night reading The Body Finder because as much as I wanted to put it down and get some rest for work in the morn More...

This was an amazing sequel. It was what I hoped it would be--complete with the awesomeness that is the Jay and Violet love story. It was filled with new characters, new scenarios, new drama, new challenges. If you liked TBF then you will not be disappointed!

I am having a hard time writing a review for this novel. It was every bit as good as The Bodyfinder. All the same characters were there, but the focus was more on the kids this time than the parents. Chelsea had more "face time" so we got to learn more about her. Jay and Violet's relationship continued with some major hiccups. I'd say Jay showed some character growth, showing some more vulnerability where it comes to Violet, and maturity at not forcing things out of her before she More...

Well, I'm on a roll. This is the third book in a row that I have read this week in a matter of days. I'm very pleased by this. Completely.

That said... I read Desires of the Dead by Kimberly Derting. This is the sequel to this year's The Body Finder. Wow. Derting does it again. These books make me so happy, and desperate for a sequel... which means I now have to wait until Spring(ish?) 2012. Whinge!!!

Anywho, intelligent review... yes! Yes, I can do that.

My Thoughts: Once again we are back with Violet and her hectic abilities. Remember, from The Body Finder we found out she can hear echoes from dead people, the ones who died; murdered. It isn't just people she can hear, she can also hear animals. She can also sense the people who committed the crime since the imprint attaches to them. Creepy? Yes! Useful? Sometimes! Violet is trying to adjust to life just being herself and spending time with Jay. She was always so used to having him as he More...

If you read my review of The Body Finder then you know I loved that and was so excited when I was able to get my hands on the second book in this series. While you are pretty much able to predict what happens in this sequel it was still a wonderful book that I could not put down. Violet is pulled into another mystery as she tries to figure out who is stalking her and leaving her ominous messages while also trying to adjust to going from best friends with Jay to boyfriend/girlfriend with him.

I really enjoyed The Body Finder and couldn't wait any longer to read the next book in the series. Everything that I loved about the first book (the suspense, the chemistry between Violet and Jay, the mystery) was here plus a few heartbreaking moments for me, but great additions to the storyline. I understand why Violet was hurt by something Jay did, but wished she didn't act so hasty. She really scared me for a while there since I've been rooting for them from the start.

In this sequel to "The Body Finder" the missing dead are still calling to Violet and they want to be found. Just when Violet finally begins to piece her life back together after the 'serial killer' fiasco she discovers the body of a young boy and this catches the attention of the FBI. Kimberly Derting’s debut novel, THE BODY FINDER, was one of my favorite books of 2010. Her follow-up sequel, DESIRES OF THE DEAD, is one of my favorite books of 2011. The whole story is: She and her books are awesome.

In DESIRES OF THE DEAD, Violet and Jay are finally dating, and she’s starting to recover from that crazy dude who tried to her in THE BODY FINDER. Being with Jay feels right. Her life feels right. Everything is almost normal . . . until it isn’t. On a tri More...

Okay so I'm really looking forward to reading it. It's been a while since I read the <c>Boy</c> Body Finder, so I can't really make adequate predictions. But I absolutely LOVED the first one, so this should be a Fantastic followup. I love the cover soooo preeettttyyy. Erm. I wonder what is going to happen between Vi and Jay. Holy cow! Desires of the Dead is one of the best sequels I've read in a really long time. I forgot how amazing Kimberly's writing is. I'm literally at a lost for words.

Wow. Just...wow!

What I love about Desires of the Dead is how Kimberly write's from Violet's point of view, but switches every now and then to "the bad guy's" POV. This is what originally hooked me on The Body Finder. It's dark, it's twisted, it's made of win!

Violet can hear the echoes left behind when someone dies a violent death. When she phones in a tip about a body, she comes to the attention of the FBI. Violet is reluctant to trust anyone with her secret, especially a government organization. At the same time her relationship with Jay, best friend turned boyfriend, has gotten complicated. She doesn’t feel like she can talk to him like she used to, especially since he has been spending more time with a new kid in school, Mike. Mike has secre More...

This was a good sequel to THE BODY FINDER. It gave me more of Violet and Jay's relationship, but I felt that at the same time, there was less of the mystery that so thrilled me in TBD. The revealing of the clues regarding Violet's stalker was obvious, given the situation, and I felt frustrated as Violet had to make some hard choices, and this caused a rift between Violet and Jay.

Derting definitely has a style when it comes to writing the thriller aspect, and while this worked on many More...

i have to admit that i had somewhat forgotten about violet and jay (probably in part because i feel like 'the body finder' was more about violet's abilities than her relationship with jay). i didn't feel a particular need to read this book with any sort of urgency, but once i picked it up, i was thoroughly wrapped up in it.

this author really knows how to weave a tale of suspense. despite being annoyed with violet most of the time (how dramatic/stupid can you get), i wanted to know more More...

Gah. I don’t know why I do this to myself.

I hated the Body Finder. I found Violet to be a complete idiot, Jay to be an annoying control freak, their relationship to be based off of physical attraction and the whole ‘I see dead people’s bodies!!!’ thing to be a minor subplot the author added mainly so that she could pretend the whole thing had a point and wasn’t just some lame ‘loser high school girl lands a hottie boyfriend’ fantasy. We’ve seen Stephenie Meyer attempt this on five d More...

I really enjoyed the Body Finder, and initially thought it was going to be a stand alone novel, so I loved having Desires of the Dead to get my hands on. I love that this book explores Violet and Jay's relationship and how cruel we can be to the people we love, all for pride. I really liked being inside Violet's head as she struggled with this really personal and difficult "gift."

The Body Finder had an excellent plot, good characterization, awesome twists and was so suspenseful that I literally could not put it down. But this one was hard for me to finish.

I'm not quite sure what I think of this book. I guess I'll start by saying that it was good enough to keep my attention, so it didn't take long to finish. Overall, it was pretty good.

That being said, this story has a lot of flaws. I got annoyed how much the author tries to trick readers so she can surprise them later when most of the time, I don't think she was really fooling anyone. I really like this author and the Body Finder books. These books keep me interested in the story the whole time. The first one was better, and I liked the plot in the first one more than the second.

My biggest complaint with this book is that Violet still won't rely on Jay or her family to help her when she's in a life-threatening predicament. She gets Jay upset again because she went out on her own in the dark looking for an echo. You think she'd learn or at least you think she' More...

One little well meaning act, in a moment of indecision, can change your life as Violet is discovering. She knew it was mistake. She know she shouldn't have placed the call let alone been there in the first place, but she was sure there was no way she would be connected to the crime, could be connected to body she found. She was wrong, though she didn't know this until it was too late, until the FBI was calling her to explain how she knew.

Argh. It was like in the span between the first book and this one, Violet has gotten ten times more melodramatic. It's so irritating seeing a character backslide like that. She's jealous of the time Jay is spending without her, she doesn't talk to her family or Jay about her problems (even though they have known for years about her ability to sense the dead), and I spend a good portion of the time wanting to slap some more sense into her. It was like the author took her main character and forced More...

Violet Ambrose has a special gift; she senses the echoes of people who have died brutally and tragically. Not only can she sense the echoes of the dead, she can also see the imprint on their killers. The only downside to this gift is that Voilet never reaches the victims in time to save them.

Desires of the Dead! Finally! If you haven't read The Body Finder yet, then you wouldn't understand how much I suffered waiting for this book. But if you have, I hope we share the same sentiment.

The Body Finder was one of the most gripping and breathtaking books I've read in 2010 so my expectations for Desires of the Dead were rather high. So, did DotD live up to my expectations? Sadly, no. I liked the book. I liked the characters and even though there were no real surprises for me, it was still interesting. One of those don't-want-to-put-it-down books (note - not a can't-put-it-down book). I will probably check out the first book now just to have read both in the series. :)
