Several years ago I read the Pendragon series by D.J. McHale and rather enjoyed them, so when I saw that he had a new series out I certainly wanted to read it. Honestly, getting this book was just a waste of a good Audible.com credit. Spoilers coming up…if you still want to read this book, that is…
I really, really wanted to like this book, and kept on figuring that it was going to get better in a couple of chapters…it never did. Let’s start off with the main character shall we? M More...

Meet 16 year old Marshall Seaver. Marsh is a semi-geek who likes his graphic novels, comic books, art and has a hard time letting go and growing up, unlike his best friend Cooper, who likes to live life large and push it to the limits, frequently.
So what happens when Cooper gets himself into a sticky mess more then usual and gets sent away to his family lake house, destroying there summer plans in the process? Or a better question is, what's happening to Marsh as he seems to be haunted or/ More...

The Light is an interesting new series filled with wonderful characters. It's suspenseful, and will keep you on the edge of your chair.
The Light is filled with an abundance of well rounded characters. All the characters felt so real, and were unique in their own ways. I loved the development all the characters had throughout the book, particularly Sydney and Marsh. They started as basic characters, and by the end were these layered, complex characters.

I've had this book for a year now. I don't know why it's taken me so long to get to it. I bought it at last year's LA Times Book Festival where D.J. MacHale signed it for me. And now that this year's Book Festival is right around the corner, and D.J. MacHale will be there again, I thought, "Oh, #@$%!$, I didn't even read that first book!" Seriously, I felt guilty. Which is silly. I don't think this man would be mortally offended that I took so long to get to his book, but I still felt

It begins with mysterious sounds, a fleeting face outside a window–all things that can be explained away. That is, until he comes face-to-face with a character who only exists on the pages of a sketchbook–a character Marshall himself created.

I got this book through Traveling ARC Tours; thanks to them for letting me be on the tour. This is the first book I have read by Hale, and though I am not normally a horror read, the premise sounded interesting and I loved the cover. This is the first book in the Morpheus trilogy.
Marshall Seaver is looking forward to a great summer, but then things start to go wrong. His dad has to go out of town to Las Vegas and his best friend is being shipped off to the family cabin. Then Seave More...

Morpheus Road was filled with creepy ghouls, mysterious occurrences, teen-aged boy antics and even a cute girl to tag along on the adventure. I can certainly see why this book would appeal to boys. It isn’t entirely unappealing to girls either, I imagine, but they’d have to be a bit more into the supernatural to really enjoy it. It does, however showcase a sassy heroine who’s strong with a touch of vulnerability. So that could draw some girls in as well.

Marshall Seaver is 16 and has big plans for the summer, all involving his best friend since childhood, Cooper Foley. But Coop has other plans- he wants to hang out with girls more than build rockets. Then he gets in trouble for selling counterfeit tickets and gets exiled to his parent’s lake house for the summer. This really throws a wrench into the plans they both have, but they have no idea how much worse their summer will get.

Quick & Dirty: A highly entertaining read that is sure to give you nightmares.
Opening Sentence: I believe in ghosts.
The Review:
The story is narrated by Marshall Seaver, an average teenage boy and amateur comic book artist. He's a bit immature and clings to all of the things that define him. He loves comics, video games, building model rockets, and spending time with his one and only friend - his best friend, Cooper. Where Marshall is a total geek and lacks More...

The Light is an intense and down right creepy beginning to an exciting new series. From the get go, I knew this book was going to creep me out. Just look at the cover. This character screams "I am uber creepy. You better fear me." So it was no surprise to me when the first real scary / suspenseful scene occurred early on in the novel and that I was on the edge of my seat the whole time... with every little twist and suspenseful bump making me want to hide under the covers. The Light by DJ McHale Is The First Book In The Morpheus Road Trilogy. This Book Is An Awesome Read! I Was Hooked By Chapter 2. The Main Charater Is Marsh. The Book Begins With Marsh Speaking About The Prior Week And What's Happening Now. His Father Goes On A Business Trip And His Best Friend Goes Missing. The Story Begins Rather Slow But Picks Up Really Quickly In a Mind-Boggling Race. I'm Still Trying To Find Out What Morpheus Road Is, Although That Information Will Probably Be Revealed When T

In spite of a few flaws in character development and overall writing structure, I found The Light to be a very captivating tale with a fresh spin on a good old-fashioned haunting. I didn't realize or remember until talking to the friend that recommended this author and series that the author created the TV series Are You Afraid of the Dark?, which aired on Nickelodeon in the 1990s. I found that reading this novel was almost like watching an episode of that series, but I'm not saying that's neces

Marshall Seaver (anyone but me hearing the Growing Pains theme song in their heads when the name Seaver is mentioned?) is an ordinary good guy type of sixteen-year-old; he's the Luke Skywalker to his best friend Cooper Foley's Han Solo. Cooper's a troublemaker who's mostly interested in chasing girls, while Marsh is a kid at heart, and still interested in building rocket ships and reading graphic novels. The only girl who captures Marsh's attention is Cooper's older sister Sydney, a beautiful hi

Wow, I loved this book!
I've let Morpheus Road The Light sit on my shelf for months because the back description didn't sound too fantastic. I started reading it because I saw that a few of my Goodreads friends gave it a good review, so I figured I would give it a try, and I am so happy that I did! This book was so good!

Marsh Seaver is being haunted. Or hunted. Or both, really. It started with little sounds, like creaks and drips. Then darkness where there should have been light. Then hallucinations. Finally a creature from Marsh's own imagination, the Gravedigger, appeared and tried to kill him. All of this started the day his best friend, Cooper, disappeared. Now Marsh must team up with Cooper's sister, Sydney, to find out exactly what happened to his friend and how, or why, it's tied in with the sinister Gra

This past Saturday, my daughter and I went to the LA Times Festival of Books at UCLA. Our first stop was the Mysterious Galaxy Bookstore booth to get the lay of the land. Last year, we stumbled upon Connie Willis at their booth and had a nice chat with her, so we were hoping for some equal luck this year. We started talking to this really nice, intelligent author named D.J. MacHale. There wasn't anyone waiting to get books signed, so we kind of monopolized his time for a bit. I noticed that

D.J. MacHale has been one of my favorite authors ever since I feasted upon the Pendragon Series. His writing style is immensely captivating, keeping you on the edge of your seat throughout the entire book. This was the first horror I have read in a long time, and I must say MacHale seems to have a knack for the genre. I was surprisingly and utterly enthralled.

This is a new series by D.J. MacHale, the author of the Pendragon series. I understand that Pendrgaon has quite a following but I have not yet read it. I thought I'd give this one a try and I am glad I did. It was scary but not so bad that I slept with the light on, lol!

About the Book: Marshall Seaver is being haunted. It starts with strange noises and symbols appearing to him, but then things get stranger. Marshall starts to see Gravedigger, a comic character he created. When his best friend Cooper disappears, Marshall must work together with Sydney, Cooper's "ice queen" sister to figure out what is happening. The two discover that something bigger than they ever expected is after them-and no one is safe.

This was my monthly bookclub's group read for July and I can say after initially seeing the cover art and reading this inside jacket I wasn't exactly leaping in anticipation for this one. I'm not normally a horror genre fan and YA horror doesn't normally register on my radar. However, I found myself drawn into this book because the protagonist Marshall who is this story's narrator had such a compelling comedic voice. Whether he was filling us in on the gory details of the action packed scenario

Marshall, 16, has been friends with Cooper for years possibly because they are so different. There was never any competition. But now, their differences are growing. Marshall is still looking forward to the usual summer pursuits while Cooper's more adventurous nature is leading him into real trouble and his parents send him away for the summer. Marshall is having his own problems with strange occurrences and finds himself being haunted by a character he has been drawing - The Gravedigger. When

If I were to write a letter to the author:
You've gotta be kidding. D.J., what were you thinking? Has your brain been addled by the TV shows you used to write? I read the first book in your "Pendragon" series and it was amazing! I couldn't put it down. You wrote killer cliff-hanger endings. But this book? It is just a hodge podge of scary, sensational scenes, tied together by a weak plot. When I first got Morpheus Road: The Light in the mail, it was the first time I was hearing about it. I went in to the story with just the description on the back to go by. Man, was this in intense story! It is filled with action, so the pages moved quickly for me. My adrenaline was pumping throughout the whole read.
It didn't take me long to like the main character, Marsh. Marsh isn't the super hot bad boy. He is a normal teenager and, well . . . a geek. In the beginning of the story More...

MORPHEUS ROAD: THE LIGHT is the first book in a planned trilogy from D. J. McHale. As soon as I saw the super creepy cover (which is unbelievably detailed in person) I had to read it. I’m sorry it looks like mud above, but there don’t appear to be good hi-res images anywhere.

I was really creeped out by this book. Some of the graphics made my imagination run wild which resulted in me freaking out. I do give credits for the explicit details and I'm sure horror fans would love this book.
The plot itself was all over the place. At first, it was about the character that Marshall made up and then the "kidnapping" of his best friend, Cooper. They were separate but the author managed to pull things together so both subplots were able to coordinate well More...

4 Stars - When I first started reading this book I soon learned that I wouldn't be reading it in the dark. It had such a high creep factor for me that I almost didn't pick it back up again. What can I say, this book was scary and well… I'm a big chicken. Lol
I did in the end finish it... and was a little bit confused while reading, but I liked the story and the build up for what's to come in the rest of the series.
