It’s summer and Melonhead and Sam have Big Plans. Big Plans that include seeing the titan arium “bunga bangkai” plant. According to Melonhead, this plant is better than moldy ham and flaming bats. It’s a plant that not only blooms once every seven years, but, best of all, when it does bloom, it smells like putrid, dead mammals, plus rot, plus spoiled food. In order to go, the boys know they’ll have to stay out of trouble, and let’s face it, that’s not always easy for them to do. So, they co More...

Ramona the Pest for boys. Melonhead is a pro at getting into trouble. He swears stuff just happens to him, and it's not like he plans any of the messes he gets into. But one summer, his mom decides to make a list for him that she turns into a game. The list and the game are called Remind-O-Rama. Every time Melonhead thinks about doing something that will get him into trouble he's supposed to look at this list of things he's NOT allowed to do - like swimming in a fountain, walking across chairs a More...

I love the Melonhead books. They are ridiculous and silly, and yet Kelly writes for the adults that she knows will read this book as well. There is definite humor in the book that adults will smile at while kids won't have a clue that something is funny. The best children's lit is this way....it pleases both audiences.

Such dead pan repartee among the friends and family! Really funny situations kids and families (of boys, especially) can relate to. Wish I had thought of the Remind-o-Rama card years ago, but it would not have been large enough!

Since Melonhead is a friend of Lucy Rose how could this not be a great and funny book. Melonhead tries so hard and has such great plans, but they all seem to blow up in his face.

The first Melonhead book was an instant favorite for me. Melonhead reminds me a lot of the Wimpy Kid series (with a lot more depth) or Clementine or Judy Moody. I literally laughed out loud at some of the parts in this book.

Melonhead is trying to get his parents to let him go to New York and see the "big stink"--a plant that only blooms once every 12 years and is supposed to emit the worst smell ever. However, Melonhead finds himself in trouble, accidentally, and he ends u More...

I certainly don't envy Melonhead's parents - the boy has a knack for getting into trouble - but his escapades are hilarious to read about.

Lucy Rose, Melonhead, & Co. are my absolute favorite elementary-grade characters. They are extremely fun books to read aloud, & it's impossible not to laugh out loud while doing so. More, please!

I love this series!!

During the summer between fourth and fifth grade, Adam "Melonhead" Melon, who lives in the Washington, D.C., neighborhood of Capitol Hill, tries to stay out of trouble to earn a trip to New York City to see the giant "stink flower".

For the elementary age student, protagonist is in 5th grade. Not a bad book. I'm not sure what appeals to the younger set. It seems a little immature for 5th grade, but then again, I'm no expert.
