Jude Deveraux is one of my "must read" authors, in that whenever I see a new paperback with her name on it I pick it up. I may have to rethink that after this last one. I don't expect great literary backflips, but I do expect a fun, engaging romance novel with characters that I care about and an interesting story. This novel delivers neither, as the storyline is rushed through so quickly you feel as thow Deveraux is just tossing the plot points at you, rather than letting you experien...more

What has happened to Jude Deveraux? She used to write such great books...the last few I've read by her have been mediocre at best. Maybe she has a different editor, or she's enough of a bestseller that she doesn't really get edited anymore...

Anyway, the writing was creaky, the characters boring, the romance anemic, and the mystery stupid. Honestly, romance writers need to stay away from mystery, if the only way they can think to solve it is to introduce completely new, unforeshadowed twists ...more

There was nothing I liked about this book. The characters were weak and not fully developed. Too many stories within stories about the ghosts, legends of ghosts, the main character's background, story of the house, story of the dead finance, etc. I thoroughly enjoy this author's other books but this was a MAJOR disappointment. She really lost me at the end when the ghosts had to inhabit the bodies of the main characters to end their celibacy so their spirits would be happy.

This book was all right. It moved quickly, had a nice hero and stuff, but, that being said it wasn't anywhere near how well Jude Deveraux can write.

Also there was a bad editing gaffe in it. It referred to his Uncle Frank as Frank Montgomery when most Deveraux readers know Frank Taggert. I'd say it was a different character except there were too many similarities.

Don't waste money, but borrow it from the library or a rich friend if you like Jude Deveraux.

This was a nice story but not in the same category of her previous books such as the fantastic Knight in Shining Armor. The love story of Jane and Nigh was sweet, but frankly I was more interested in the love story of the ghosts Ann and Daniel or of Jace and his dead fiancée Stacy. The book wraps up the suicide mystery but the author writes the ghost story uneven and slow. The epilogue is ridiculous and a discredit to her readers IQ.

I don’t read trashy romance tripe, but I have been a long-time reader of Jude Deveraux’s work. They are romances at heart, but she writes great dialogue, witty and fast paced. She has written probably 20 books with characters all in the same family, from the 1100’s on to current day. This one had a ghost story and a mystery and was a good, quick read (in one day). It’s not heavy literature, but very enjoyable.

I would have to say that this was an ok book! I felt like it was missing some chapters. The beginning started strong but it seemed like the author lost interest in the story and the characters. You didn't really see any development in the character's relationships. I also felt that there was no true connection between the Stacy's murder/suicide and the ghosts. Its not a bad read but its definitely not her best.

i picked this up on a whim because its been a while since i last read a jude devereaux book. i finished this in a sitting but it was more because of the story being easy to read and the story line being quite simple - too simple, in fact. for me, it paled in comparison to her previous books, which had left me breathless and wanting more. but all in all, a good romance fix.

In this story, a widower is seeking truth and peace after his wife commits suicide. He gets some unexpected help in his quest by some unlikely sources. It's an interesting plot, but it didn't have enough surprises for me. I could kinda guess how differnt situations were going to play out before I read the outcome.

Again, so easy to visualize everything that Jude Deveraux writes. She writes so descriptively that you can almost smell the fresh flowers on the table, or the wood burning in the fire place of her stories. She is fantastic. This story was wonderful. I love the 'magic' that she puts in to her stories.

Worst Jude Deveraux book I've read. It seems like it was written by someone else - I think that the loss of the author's son has had a profound effect on her writing. It's almost like when Kathleen E. Woodiwiss' writing style went down hill. Very disappointed.

This is not a typical romance novel, but then, Jude Deveraux is not a typical romance author. Be prepared for mystery and ghosts, a pretty good "whodunnit". No skanky material to be aware of, I would recommend this book if you are in need of a get-a-way.

Quick Read. A romantic murder mystery with ghosts. I really like Jude Deveraux so I had to read this one as well. She is a really quick creative read. A great book to get my mind into the story and not with what is going in my life.

This is a lazy day read. I wanted something that was purely fluff and this was it. Actually for a "just for fun" book this probably would get 4 stars because the story is quick, engaging, and doesn't require deep thought. :-)

When I first picked this one up I thought that it would be ok but not that great, I mean the guy is hung up on a dead woman! But I loved it, I really enjoyed reading about another Montgomery man, they really are fantastic!

Jude Deveraux wrote my favorite book ever (A Knight in Shining Armour) and she has yet to write one as terrific. Read it if you have it around, are going on a plane or to the beach, but it is easily missable.

Jude is one of my favorite authors. Everytime I see a book of hers I snatch it up. She keeps me enticed in the book from the second I pick it up. This story was amazing. Very passionate and warming.

Even though I enjoy reading the classics, a little light reading is always welcome. Unfortunately nothing Jude Deveraux writes has ever come close to A Knight in Shining Armor.

Pretty good, but most of this authors stuff is pretty good. Then again, most of them are fairly alike too. They're pretty much fluff books, but sometimes, you need a good fluff book.
