First of all, don't worry that it's first in a trilogy. It ends satisfyingly - the only reason you'd like to keep going is if you're just a big fan of spending more time in this particular world. Second of all, despite having aspects of thrillers and paranormal literature, it is a romance. A pretty good one, not terribly predictable, adorable without being cutesy - but, yeah, really best for fans of that genre. Fairly tame - if you catch your 13 year-old reading it don't panic. The female lead i...more
Immediately I noticed that the tone of the book was quite dry and boring. I only made it through a few pages and had to give up. It was not catching my attention at all. It was due mostly to the creepy story being told.
“When the girls were both thirteen years old, their parents married each other, and Beatrice and her father (who had been alone together for a long time) moved into the house that Heather’s rich father had left to his wife and only child. Some unkind souls (and there were a lot o...more

This is, by far, the worst book I've ever read. And that's saying something considering it came from me. It was as if it was written by a 16-year-old. And the girl in the book is downright annoying. Spoiled, not like the "humble" girl depicted earlier. And the romance was dumb. Why? because it didn't delve into feelings or sensations. It just stated how annoyed the guy is at this 'poor girl' but how he 'liked' it. I mean wtf. And then the girl was saying 'we should make mad, passionate love' ALL...more
Just finished it. Not sure about it overall. The entire book was exciting, and held my interest. However, at the end, instead of the final confrontation with Evil, we just got a "one year later" and then a chapter that was "three years later". I felt cheated! Cop out! I'll probably give this author another try later; so prolific, so not all of the books will leave me with this feeling, I'm sure. Furthermore, while some characters were wonderfully fleshed out, motivations for some of the others w...more
Darci overcame a childhoodof neglect with a positive attitude and determination. Now, she is hired as Adam's personal assistant. Adam won't accept Darci's love until he discovers his parents disappearance, and Darci posseses the otherworldly abilities needed to help him fight a witch. This book was interesting. I wouldn't let my teen daughter read it, just because it talks about sex, and evil torture. UUmmm, I guess the "jury is still out " on this book. I didn't LOVE it, but I have the rest of...more
I started reading Jude Devereaux at the impressionable age of 13, when I picked up her bestseller with the brazenly over-the-top title, "A Knight In Shining Armor". Coming back to read her now as an adult, I am always surprised at how she manages to pull me in to her crazy stories. The back cover calls her a "superb storyteller" and that's just what she is - she weaves incredible tales of people in bizarre situations, silly and unbelievable characters like a millionaire whose parents were killed...more
Wonderful start of a daunting tale. Beautifully written thriller laced with mysterious romance. The story was very well-woven together. The way Miss Jude delivered the series of events scene of scene and builds up such descriptive characters was amazing. I thoroughly enjoyed every intense moment spun into words transferring me to a different world. I genuinely wished that I could just escape into their world and become the main character. I must've reread this trilogy at least a handful of times...more

I haven't read a Jude Deveraux book in awhile and when I saw that this was the first in a trilogy I decided to go for it. After reading this, I now remember why I stopped reading her books.
It starts off fine with the naive girl meeting the worldly man. And the story got really good. And then nothing. The entire book built up to a climax that just never happened. I felt cheated. Really cheated. Out of the few hours I wasted to get to the point that never happened. I actually started reading the...more

So now I find out that this is a trilogy...more books to get :-)
This is a interesting story about Darci and her new boss Adam. What is exactly her job description...it seems Adam has just as many secrets as money laying around. Darci has the True Persuasion power, which she uses to convince people to do as she would like. The other cool connection is how easy it is for her to get into Adam's head and talk to him. Where are they going, what are they looking for and will they have a relationship ....more

A mostly good book with likeable characters. Darci was almost irritating in her naivete, but she turned out to be a quite interesting. My biggest complaint is in how she wrote the book's ending. Essentially, it seemed as if she ran short on time or number of pages that she was allowed to write. Everything was leading up to one particular conclusion, and we never got to see (read) it happen - only as a "one year later..." or something like that summary. That part was VERY disappointing. I have never been more in live with a book than I have Forever. The witches and love story got me hooked. My Mom bought the trilogy a few years ago and I just now picked them up. I spent a day an a half reading forever and I woke her up in the middle of the night to find the other 2 books. Found them, now I can die happily.

The first time I read this book I loved it, and I zipped right through it. Now years later I'm re-reading it and I didn't enjoy it as much the second time around.
I still think it was a good book, and I don't know why I didn't enjoy it as much this time around. Its fun though and an easy read.
The final chapter did end rather abrutly but you are given to epilogue's to kind of tell you what happened and whats going to happen. So the ending didn't really bother me, I am going to guess she will pic...more

I enjoyed the supernatural componenents of this novel and the fact that it was a subtle love story without overt sexuality. The characters are complex and this first book in the series just scratches the surfaces of their personalities and abilities. Once I found that Darci was a trustworthy character I liked her more. Adam, although our romantic hero, was by far the perfect man which made him more real. The end of the story was a little anticlimactic because it ended so quickly and so neatly. I...more
I gave it 4 stars at first because I read it quickly and didn't want to put it down, but I changed it to 3. I didn't like some of the creepy evil stuff that the bad guys were up to and it was a little cheesy which makes it more of a 3 star. It was definatly an interesting story though. A little mystery, little criminial minds, a love story and a little humor.

I would have given it a 2 but just for the sake of Montgomery. Characters aren't developed. I didn't feel a connection to the relationships. In the begining of the book the whole story line was vague but when you're half way thorough it's just terribly predictable a little exciting i must admit, however the last few chapters seems like the author is rushing through a dead line or something, she could've written it with more detail, done better...
This series is one of my favorites, I have read it till my first copies fell apart (So I bought the ebook for my nook)! I have been reading Jude Deveraux since I was a teenager and I get excited every time I see a new one out!
This book/series looks at one extrordinary woman and how she deals with her powers. They also look at how she affects others around her. She also gets to solve mysteries. LOVE IT!

I loved the fact that the characters didn't get each other at the beginning, they're so easy to relate to and so fun to get into. I'm not big in the whole witches thing but I liked the way it was portrayed here, unlike some other paranormal books this one actually leaves enough to reason to make it believable. In a totally random note what the hell is up with that little town of Putnam??
I have read better by this author. Darci and Adam were interesting and the story itself was good but I felt it needed more development of the characters. I would have like more about Taylor and Bodecia.IT just seemed a little contrived. Also the ending lacked punch. I almost felt there was a deadline somewhere and the author just wanted to finish without doing the work on the characters.
I used to read a lot of Jude Deveraux books, but they started getting a little tmi with the bedroom scenes. I'm glad I happened upon this book while searching for another with the same title - it had the romance without all the details. I liked the book although the ending seemed a little rushed. It was a little odd to have an epilogue when there are two more books in the series.
This book started out kind of stupid. I was about 3 chapters into it and thinking, "This book is stupid." Darci was annoying and Adam was about the coldest romance hero I've ever read. However, by the end of the book they wern't quite as annoying or cold and the story got more and more interesting. I kind of figured out a couple of the "surprises" at the end of the story ahead of time, but they were kind of interesting and fun little twists that made me think the story wasn't so dumb after all....more
I have read all of Jude’s books but this series was my least favorite. It jumps around and doesn’t make much sense from one book to the next. In the first book they use the internet to help them but in the second book the internet hasn’t been invented yet. I can usually suspend reality and go with it but there was just way too much to overlook with these ones…
I liked this book enough to track down the two sequels in the series. Based on the reviews of the last one, I'm not sure if they will be worth my time. I am puzzled as to why it is so difficult to tell from the book covers what the order of these books is... but I think I've got it right now, thanks to others on Goodreads telling me which is #2 and which is #3.
I absolutely loved the book when I first read it. I was around 14-15 then. I remember reading it twice. I also know that she shouldn't have added two more books to the forever series. They completely ruined the story, for me at least. Overall, this book is a good lighthearted read. Jude Deveraux has this something that makes me keep reading her.
I found this book lying around in my house, at first I put it aside while I was waiting for my other book to come in. I started reading it and found that it was so entertaining i couldn't put it down. I felt that she could have described more towards the end because she left it hanging. I wanted to know what happened to the Evil lady. I would definitely pick up the second book to this series!
If you are into a combination of the paranormal and romance then this is the book for you. This is the first in a trilogy. The characters are well written and very fun. The only reason I'm giving this 4 instead of 5 stars is because of the way the book ended. The whole thing was geared towards an ending and the ending was really rushed through. It was like she just HAD to end it quickly or something. All in all a good book.
It was a little confusing in the beginning to figure out the characters but I stuck it out and it was worth it. The way it interwined the two families helped draw you in. You knew that something big was going to happen in the end. You didn't know if good or evil was going to win but you knew something was brewing.
This was a wonderful story of mystery and love. It has lots of fun turns and twists that make it a really enjoyable read. My favorite was the unusual nature of this romance novel. It still had the natural struggles of relationships but the mystery and intrigue written throughout made it much more interesting.
This paranormal romance is set the love story of Darci and Adam Montgomery. Darci has a supernatural power that Adam needs to save his sister. Darci's character is lovable, a quiet person who overcame childhood of neglect with spirit and a positive attitude. A good love story filled with magic and humor.
