Sophie's sister Hannah is getting married. Sophie isn't wild about the guy but knows she can't change Hannah's mind so she is performing all the "party planning" from pre-wedding parties to dinners, breakfasts and lunches. Of course she has to put up with lots of comments, criticism and interference from Natasha, her rival in party planning.

In the second of the Domestic Diva mysteries, our heroine Sophie Winston is struggling to make sure her sister Hannah's wedding goes off smoothly. Planning this wedding has been difficult for her, as she dislikes Hannah's intended, Craig, and secretly hopes that Hannah will change her mind. When Craig's ex-wife is found hanging in a neighbour's backyard, Sophie is certain that the wedding will be cancelled. However, it is not, and although Craig hasn't invited any of his family members to the we...more
Da DA da dua. It's going to be a wedding. Hannah and Craig are getting married. I, for one, thought that they were doomed since book 1. Hannah always seems to be bending to Craig's wishes. That's no way to be in a relationship.
I do, however, love the rivalry between Sophie and Natasha. Natasha just seems so over the top. Never let Natasha plan anything. She's WAY too organized, and seems to like the most complicated plans for events. She's also oblivious to the fact Sophie dislikes ...more

The frustration continues as human doormat Sophie Winston allows her bridezilla sister Hannah and nasty comb-over fiance Craig to work Sophie to a frazzled wreck in prep work for their wedding that they throw out the window in short order. And when they're not yanking her chain, Sophie's interfering mother is trying to reunite her with Mars (Sophie's ex-husband), and persistently placing the butter dish just out of Sophie's reach. The actual mechanics of the mystery are so-so, but I already ha...more
I've been on a cozy mystery kick this winter. The stress of the holidays makes me want to read something light. The only problem I run into with this genre is sometimes they're a bit too light. I've given up on a number of them because I just can't take them seriously (even enough to get through the book). I'm happy to say that this one was different. The characters were well developed and believeable. The story lost some steam toward the end and the ending was a little too rushed, but overall I...more
Sophie is planning her sister's third wedding to a man she doesn't like. Her ex-husband's live in girlfriend is helping. They live almost next door. It gets worse. Every chapter ends with some sort of mini cliffhanger drama. Oh my! I thought I was picking up another Kyra Davis mystery. Krista / Kyra- and both heroines are named Sophie and they both have sisters that were previously married...Oh well, live and learn. The story takes place in Old Town/Alexandria VA. It sounded nice, I wish the are...more
Event-planner Sophie is working on sister Hannah's third wedding, although the family detests the groom-to-be, Craig. A mysterious death throws the plans into confusion, and Sophie's frenemy Natasha wants to change everything that's been decided already. As the wedding goes from on to off to on, Sophie agonizes over her relationship with the local police detective Wolf, one of Hannah's ex'es shows up, and so does the groom's estranged family. Part of the enjoyment is knowing that at least the...more

I finished this last night and I still don't know how I feel about the book.
Natasha is mean to her friends if Sophie is supposed to be her best friend. And how does she still think Sophie wants to be her friend when Natasha stole her husband?
Wolf was weird and jumped the gun a lot, IMO. But there wasn't a lot of Wolf in the book anyway.
I'm not a fan of weddings in general, so the book wasn't as exciting as the first book was for me.

This light, engaging cozy mystery series (Domestic Diva) continues with Sophie's sister's wedding and Sophie and Natasha struggling for culinary dominance. It's strong Alexandria sense of place appeals to me but I wasn't gleefully scribbling down freezer plans and menus the way I was in "Runs Out of Thyme." Though the plot edges toward silly, I'm looking forward to #3.
I like a lot of things about this series, but Natasha just makes everything bad. I get that they need to have a foil for Sophie, who is fairly awesome, but wow Krista Davis goes a little overboard on Natasha! I've got one more of these to read and we'll see if it improves at all.
I don't think I can give a very accurate review of this book as I was distracted from reading all the way through in a consistent manner. I was waylaid by a health issue and read only a couple of chapters every couple of days a week.
I would say the characters were consistent with the first book, some of my favorites had a lesser role.
For the most part, I think the book continues to be a good read and fun cozy.
Looking forward to getting back on track and reading some more.
As I figured, book 2 would be even better than the first once the characters were established. The drama of "Hannah and Craig" intensifies as Sophie plans their wedding. As expected, Natasha has to "offer her insights"...LOL! An enjoyable read!
I really enjoyed this book, it was a quick read but filled with drama and suspense. I was shocked at the ending, even though I thought I had figured out the bad guy earlier in the story I was wrong! I look forward to getting to read some more of Krista Davis' books.
Second in the series. Still enjoyable; still hoping for some improvement. This one, on addition to having an overall cooking flavor (sorry!), had a wedding theme; it includes decoration/wedding web sites and wedding suggestions.
Sophie has to host her sister's wedding to Craig. Nobody in Sophie's family particularly likes Craig, but they all want Hannah's wedding to go well. When Craig's first wife shows up dead will the wedding go on?
Here's a cozy mystery that truly is mysterious. I enjoyed the flow of the writing much more than I typically do in this genre. The first half was rather a jumble of names that seemed to shake out slowly, while the suspect list became somewhat clouded. This made for a neatly surprising conclusion. The setting is a wedding weekend which led to padded writing about the event however all-in-all, this book is a nice, relaxing read.
If Hannah was my sister I'd go crazy. Why would you feel that anyone's advice is better than your own sister's advice? Well at least Sophie can put up with it! Great read!!
I want to once again thank Krista Davis, who sent me this book as a winner in a drawing on her blog, http://domesticdivamysteries.com.
I wish I'd been less distracted when I read this! It's an interesting mystery involving a wedding, duelling domestic divas, the lead character, Sophie, and Natasha, who not only lives down the street but is dating Sophie's ex-husband(!), extra wedding guests and a 5-year-old jewelry heist. Both Sophie and Natasha write newspaper columns on decorating...more

This was a nice easy fun read. I read it in one day. I was worried it would be super predictable, but it had a nice twist. Good vacation read.
Another great book. Sophie just keeps finding those dead bodies, but the wedding still must go on. A fun summer read! Can't wait for the next one.
I'm enjoying this series and their kooky characters. It's nice to have an ensemble of people vs. just one main character -- then I don't get so tired of just one individual.
I bought this one and after I read it I sent it to my Mum in Australia she also LOVED IT! :)
Diva takes the cake was excellent. I had read one of the books in the series and wanted to start the series at the beginning so I could understand everything that had happened in the past. Anyone who likes cozy mysteries or just mysteries in general will enjoy the Diva series. I know I'll be reading the entire series and then anxiously waiting for the next one.
A real fun read. Any book that includes food is a winner for me. I love how Krista Davis writes. I never can guess who done it! I hope to read more of her books.
Quick read. I pick up a bunch of these each fall at the Putnam Penguin book sale locally. This is one of my last ones.
This is the 2nd in the Domestic Diva series by a local author. I enjoyed this quick read.
