After finishing book three of the Vampire Diaries, and liking it considerably more than the first two installments, I noticed the irony of the titles and how I felt about each book.

The Awakening - I never woke up for it.

The Struggle - I struggled to get through it.

The Fury - I was gonna be really irritated if this book wasn't moderately better than the first two.

Thank you! It was better! (Moderately.)

Even though I admire people who can put books down when they don't like them, I find that I lear
[Quoted from this book:]

Finish it, his weary voice said in her mind.

Elena hesitated for an instant. There was something about those eyes that called up memories inside her. Standing in the moonlight, sitting in an attic room… But the memories were too vague. She couldn’t get a grasp on them, and the effort made her dizzy and sick.

And this one had to die, this green-eyed one called Stefan. Because he’d hurt him, the other one, the one Elena had been born to be with. No one could hurt him and li
The book was really nice. So touching. I didn't liked the end, though. Elena never actually got to tell Damon that she loved him. I would have like to see his reaction to those words. The Stefan-Damon end was really touching. The last line was really beautiful. There's not enough of Damon in the book as I'd have liked but I really hope we get to see more of him in the next.
This review is just for "The Fury" which is book three in the "Vampire Diaries" series. This series continues to surprise me. SPOILER ALERT I did not expect Elena to be turned into a vampire. I know it is the logical outcome of spending time with vampires, but when it happened in book two I was surprised. I kind of put the book down in shock at that point. Then the conclusion of this one was full of more surprises. It turns out I was totally wrong about who the Other Power was. Part of me hopes ...more
I am…content with how things wrapped up in The Fury. It all made sense. The characters were left in plausible places within the plot. Elena's journey as a newborn vampire was interesting. Her evolution from self-centered Queen Bee to self-sacrificing vamp was well done.

I would have liked a bit more Damon, as always. I am curious to see how it’s possible to have more books in this series, though, with the way it ended. (I guess they could continue without Elena.) Also, with Katherine returning o

Fangs for the Fantasy
Elena wakes up from where she has been pulled out of the river – she’s not dead; or rather she is, but she’s a vampire. Which means she has a whole new life to prepare for as a blood drinking creature of the night. Further, she’s in Fells Church where everyone believes she is dead – an act that is causing all kinds of drama and grief.

And then there’s Stefan and Damon – though betrothed to Stefan she now looks at Damon and finds him unnaturally compelling because… I don’t know, just run with it.
I am giving this book a generous 4 stars. 3.5 is most accurate. The onle reason its not a three is a semi-unexpected twist toward the end. Otherwise this book follows along the same lines as the other books.
Elena is less self-centered and Damon is more likable than he was previously. I hope to read more about him as the series continues. Stefan is way to angsty from beginning to end and I have a feeling he always will be. The story once again seemed rushed and too short. Lot of unnessessary tho

Okay, something actually happened in this one that made me like this. As much as I hated first two books, this one I liked. And I would've liked it even more if this was an actual ending. But as I said earlier, I'm not that lucky.

I was suspicious about the Other Power from the start. Watching TV show had helped though :) But I'm not sure what's going to happen next. I mean, Elena's dead, right? Is she going to return from the dead, or something? Because that would be stupid. But alas, I'll read

After drowning from a car accident on the bridge in Fells Church, Virginia, Elena returns from the dead as a vampire. The idea baffles the grief stricken Stefan because he was sure that he hadn't given her enough blood to change her. But he soon learns the truth as he discovers that Damon has also been exchanging blood with her. And after Elena returns, she's highly irrational and tries to kill Stefan. But luckily Damon stops her...

I grew up on LJ Smith and though this is a good series, she has better. In terms of general environment, the books are definitely spookier and more atmospheric than their TV counterpart. In terms of actual plot, I would honestly just recommend the TV show. I don't think I've EVER said that before in a review, but it is true in this case. Stefan and Elena (in the books) are a very boring couple. I was always disappointed that Elena did not end up with Damon in the books, who was always more intri ...more
Sometimes, safeguarding the people you love requires the Ultimate Sacrifice

Elena has died and reincarnated as a vampire. As she struggles to come to terms with her new self, a strange power reveals its sinister intentions in Fell's Church. Elena and her town get dragged into the Salvatore brothers' past as haunting secrets are revealed. However, this power, also responsible for Elena's death, is seaking for blood, killing whatever comes in its wake, and in order to let those around her live Elen

I don't know... When I started this series I guess I was expecting this quality.

And yes I know that not all vampire fiction can be as awesome as Vampire Hunter D, but I was expecting a lot more out of Smith on Vampire Diaries. Her Night World series was so much better in: plot, romance, and overall character. I'm baffled as to the reason why this show has done so well on the CW/WB.

Instead by the end of this installment I literally was like Captain Kirk throwing a fit because the laser beam miss

It's kind of hard to deal with the first three novels of the series individually, as they seem (to me, at least) to tell only one story. It's also hard to deal with these novels on their own, and not compare them to Twilight, so let's start there, with the comparison:

I have no idea why, after hating Twilight so very much, I was even remotely interested in The Vampire Diaries. Probably it was the cute boys on the tv show. Regardless, I'm really glad that I followed up, because The Vampire Diaries

Sigh. When people talk about paranormal YA these days, there's a lot to choose from in the genre and even if I haven't read it all, I get the sneaking suspicion that most of it isn't brilliant. When it comes to The Vampire Diaries, however, I knew that LJ Smith and her series had been around before Twilight and that claims were made about how it seemed hard to believe that Meyer hadn't read Smith's series, given certain similarities. So while fishing about for something to read in the wake of th ...more
Well, this was definitely better than the first two books in the series! It was MUCH more entertaining to read and I found less of an urge to just skim. There was a lot more happening than in the previous books, the characters were a lot more intriguing and the writing itself just felt better. These books are pretty short so perhaps that's why it's taking L.J Smith so long to actually get anywhere in the story! I'm still not a huge fan of Elena... or Stefan. However, I really think Damon is a fu ...more

Wow! I am really surprised but I really enjoyed listening to this audiobook. It was better than the second and WAY better than the first book. This third book had a lot of action, suspense and surprises, and less cheesy romance. The characters and their actions were more likable and more realistic (though Stefan is still too emo for me) :)

Now that I've read three books in this series I realized that the plot in the TV show is closer to the plot in the books than I thought at the beginning, just

The Fury is the third instalment of the popular Vampire Diaries series written by L. J. Smith. It picks up from where the previous book, The Struggle, left off with it's enticing cliff hanger.
This is the third book of vampire diaries where the whole town is going crazy.
Everybody thinks that Elena is dead except her friends. There is a powerful creature that is trying to destroy Elena. And now Elena must join the vampire brothers, Steffan and Damon Salvatore to help her fight for her life. But w

Before I Read the Book...

I think I'm still going to wait to read the in-between books because usually they're written after the main books in the series anyway, right?

Summary of the Story

There's another Power in the town, and Elena and the gang won't stop until they figure out who or what it is - and what it wants.

“I know who I hate most now, and it's you, Stefan. Because I loved you best.”

And so this is how it ends.

I must say, this isn't what I expected. I expected a happy ending from Ms. Smith, but a happy ending it was not.

I actually got a little sad while reading the last diary entry.

The strangest thing happened to me in the first chapter of this book. I wrote in my last 2 reviews that I felt no type of connection to any of the characters (except Matt) because that was what I believed to be true. Then

These were some of my favorite books as a teenager. They are about a high school student, Elena Gilbert, who is torn between two hot vampire brothers. Melodrama ensues. They are not the most mature books, but they are all about nostalgia for me. Of course, as I get older, I think that a lot of the things Elena does are downright stupid, but I still remember how romantic it all seemed when I was 14.

This book far surpasses the first two in the series. It has much more action, and brings greater insight into the characters. It also helps that this is the book in which Damon is no longer considered evil!

This was a good book and I really enjoyed the story on this but I didn't like the ending. I won't tell you what happens cause I hate it when people do that. But it was good.

“Something was shining on Damon's face. She reached toward it, touched it, and lifted her fingers away in wonder.
"Don't be sad," she told him, feeling the cool wetness on her fingertips. But a pang of worry disturbed her. Who was there to understand Damon now? Who would be there to push him, to try to see what was really inside him? "You have to take care of each other," she said, realizing it. A little strength came back to her, like a candle flaring in the wind. "Stefan, will you promise? Promise to take care of each other?”
