Vivienne Vail Valentine - no wonder she needs a nickname. "V" is her name, and guys are her game.
A game she learned well ...from her mom. That would be the same mom who dumped her at her grandparents house to live, which, by the way, was probably the best gift she ever gave her one and only child.
To say V has trust issues would be like saying the sun can burn. She shimmies from one guy to the next with the grace of a goddess, leaving nothing but broke...more

V Valentine, the insuppressible anti-hero from VEGAN VIRGIN VALENTINE, is back in a story about her own growing up and falling into love. All her life, V has flitted from one boy to the next at breakneck speed, never stopping to allow any possible emotions to cling to her. Then one fateful hockey game she crosses paths with Sam. Somehow things with him are different.
Could it be that Sam is V’s first real boyfriend? V isn’t so sure. And given her own mother’s history with numerous men, she’s pret...more

Plot summery-
Vivienne, who goes by V, was born by her teenaged mom who is with a different guy every other month. She moved everywhere in the country, living an unstable life. One day her mom sent her to live with her grandparents. V lived there for years, longer than she lived anywhere. At first when she live with her grandma and grandpa she slept around, smoked, partied, and even did drugs. She met a different guy this time in a strange way and she got her act...more

V has had a pretty messed up life. Aimee – her mother – spent the first seventeen years of V’s life dragging her from one town to the next in search of love. But Aimee isn’t into the long-term commitment thing, and her and V were always running from Aimee’s romantic mistakes. Consequently, V hasn’t had any stability and she hasn’t made any real friends. But that was all before Brockport, before Aimee decided V would be better off living with her grandparents. Brockport brings with it a family ki...more

Vivienne, aka V, doesn’t believe in meaningful relationships. Her mother bounced from guy to guy, leading V from city to city, and she eventually ditched V with her grandparents. V’s mother isn’t there for her daughter, always cancelling plans to meet with her.
As a result, V doesn’t allow herself to believe that there’s something serious between her and Sam Almond, a long-term boyfriend whom she doesn’t want to admit is long-term. V does something foolish and drives Sam away. When she goes on a...more

In Carolyn Mackler's book Guyaholic, V is beginning her life as an adult graduating from college. Little does she know that before she goes off to Boston University, she will be going on a trip of discovery. V begins her story in a prequel to Guyaholic, but in this book she finds herself slowly falling in love with Sam even though she herself will not admit it. Sam wants commitment, prom, and promises but V is more than ready to fill up her gas tank and drive the opposite direction.

I love Carolyn Mackler so I was so excited to discover she wrote a book from V's point of view. Aimee once again let's down V- this time she is a no show at her graduation. Upset but not willing to admit it, V reacts by cheating on her nice guy boyfriend, Sam, thus breaking his heart. Sam runs off to Berkeley early and V mopes around. G-ma and G-dad want her to go see a therapist but Aimee has another idea- go to Texas for the summer and stay with her. V instantly falls in love with the idea of...more
Wow. That was my first reaction to this book. I didn’t realize that today’s YA involves such powerful storylines that are this masterfully done. (Guess I’ve been reading too much Gossip Girl, Private, and the like—while enjoyable, they’re nothing like this!) Throughout Guyaholic, I felt I was right there with V to experience all her ups and downs.

In Guyaholic we left off with V starting her road trip to San Antonio, Texas. The first night she gets lost and ends up staying in a yucky hotel room. The next night she ends up in Eerie and decides to stay with her friend from works brother and his family, she hooks up with his son Nate but Sam is still on her mind. Next she ends up staying with her aunt Mara who is only a year older than her and they talk about Sam and V’s mom. Then she stays with old friends in Missouri for a week while final...more
The book was reasonably deep for being so short. The only thing I didn't really like was that it didn't go into depth about V and Sam's relationship. I mean, one page he was bringing her bread, the next page said they'd been together for 3 months. A lot of the book was thrown out of chronological order. In some places, it added to the overall effect. In other places it was just confusing.

When I finished Vegan, Virgin, Valentine I didn't realize there was a sequel. But I saw there was on Goodreads and that it was available at my library, so I picked it up. Then, I didn't realize it was about V, not Mara. I wasn't sure if I'd like it since I didn't really like V in the first book, but since it was short I figured I'd give it a shot.

The way V throws men around is comical. The main character in this book goes through men like candy. But, when she is faced with a man she actually wants to stay with, she does not know what to do. She is used to dumping a guy before she can get too emotionally attached to the relationship. Just like her mother does.
The relationship between V and her mother, Amy, is strained and awkward. V wants to be more like her Mom by going through do many guys, but her desperate actions are not getting her...more

Boy, I wish this book didn't have such a stupid title!!! I almost didn't read it due to the ridiculous title, but I gave it a shot since I loved Mackler's first book, The Earth, My Butt, and Other Big, Round Things. I'm glad I did, as it ended up being a very sweet YA book. Contrary to the title, this was really the story of a girl who sorts out some things about her life after graduating from high school. It was a sequel to an ok book, but it can easily stand alone, and I enjoyed it much more t...more
I loved the beginning to this story and I loved the end but it really lost me in the middle. For being such a tame book, some parts were way overdone and too graphic. When I learned this book was the sequel to one I had read earlier I was interested in reading it but the title kind of threw me for a loop. Do I really want to read a book titled Guyaholic? It's sounds like a little too much but what swayed me was the promise of a cross-country journey to find oneself and I was hoping that didn't i...more
This book was kind of a let-down after Vegan Virgin Valentine. I imagined seeing most of the old characters brought in, along with new ones. James, one of my favorite characters, was only brought in once! Mara was only seen for a few days. It didn't have as much depth as VVV, althogh it was still a great story. I loved V's new boyfriend, Sam, and the hockeypuck incident that changed her lifestyle of junping around to a solid life. This is until she gets wasted at a party and commits one of the b...more
V(nickname for her long birth name of Vivienne Valentine) has been Miss Like Them to Leave Them since her flaky mother, Aimee, dropped her off to stay with her grandparents a year ago so that said mother could got to Costa Rica. Actually, she started her reign as the "queen of meaningless hook-ups" when she was fourteen.
She was the cousin(niece technically- but it's complicated)of Type-A Mara in "Vegan Virgin Valentine", but now we get to see inside her head. I found it interesting, because V is...more

So far in my book i am more then half way through and the book. It is just getting more and more better as i read! Where i am at the book so far is that V is going on a road trip before summer ends to her mom's house. She hasn't saw her mother for about 2 years, ever since she shipped her off to her grandparents house when she left with her new boyfriend to Texas. Mean her mom missed her walk down for graduation, her mom invited her to go down to Texas to run away from her troubles..such as Sam....more
EIGHT CHAPTERS IN: All I can say is...Guyaholic. Is. HILARIOUS. There's some REALLY REALLY sad/emotional parts in it. But it is absolutely hilarious. A very well written book.
FINISHED WITH BOOK: Wow. Incredible. VERY FUNNY at certain times but at other times, it gets very emotional and very intense. A GGGRRREATTTT book. A MUST READ.
I would recommend this book to MATURE teenagers. Why? Well, there's lots of stuff in there that wouldn't be appropriate for IMMATURE teens to read. Also, OLDER teen...more

I wanted to read Mackler's book The Earth, My Butt, And Other Round Things but the library didn't have it so I picked up this book instead. I didn't know it was a sequel so I haven't read the first one. However, I had no problem getting into the story and instantly loved the character of V. This is a fast paced, fun book to read. Lots of references to sex so definitely a high school book. The dysfunctional relationship between V and her family and her many boys was hilarious and would make a goo...more
OMG - as if I didn't have enough reason to love Carolyn Mackler, she goes and writes this book. I wanted to send this to a dozen girls to read!! It's overwhelming how well Mackler can write a character that most girls would love to hate (she hooks up with guys, is attractive, a good actor, etc., most people would remember V from Vegan, Virgin, Valentine as Mara's foil) but makes her so understandable and sympathetic so that you understand why she has such low self-esteem. The therapy session tha...more
This book was about a girl who always moved around with her mother everytime her mom would break up with one of her boyfriends then her mom sent her to go live with her grandparents and they raised her. V never wanted to get to close to a guy. And her mom Aimee always said she would come see her but then always would have an excuse of why she couldnt come see her. In the end V figures out that her mom sent her away because she didnt want her to be like her mother and then she finds out she actua...more
It was cute. Kept you entertained, gave you a laugh once in a while, showed you what love can do to certain people, and shows how a relationship can make some teenaged girls act to their mothers continuous dating life/marriages and constant moves time after time. You would probably get used to it, but when your mother sends you to live with your grandparents house and attend your 6th new and last high school, you probably have a problem finding pepple to hang with know how to connect well with o...more
The ending left me hanging!!!!! I wish there was more to it than leaving it like that. so I'm rating it 4 for the unsatisfied ending :P
oh wells, I liked V's version better than Mara's. I could actually feel V and Sam's chemistry unlike James and Mara's that kinda feel like it's forced. And yea, I kinda see it coming that (view spoiler) I would love love to read more about V and Sam! Sequel 3 please?...more

the theme of this book is not to through yourself out there too much even when going through the hard times, that doesnt mean that its okay for one to run their body with no brain. V, the main character has jumped from guy to guy. She is never single and her longest relation ship was 2 weeks.. that all way until she met sam. things were going great until sam wanted to get serious and be officially gf and bf. She keeps changing the subject when ever he mentions getting serious because she scared...more

Well i have just start reading this book. The reason that i wanted to read this book, was because of the title. Guy a holic, this is something i love and it seem like the main chacter did too. So i thought we would have some things in common, like how we do boys and how far we let them get to our head , our how long we keep them around.
V is the main chacter right now and as i can see we do have things in . She dosent go out the house looking a mess and even though she has a "man" she still stays...more

Vegan, Virgin, Valentine is one of my most favorite books and so I was super excited to hear the next edition to the Valentine's adventures. I absolutely loved watching V's crazy adventure unfold bit by bit, but I definitely have mixed feelings about this book… I was a little upset with the plot line. So basically V embarks on a road trip from Brockport to Texas to visit her flake of a mother. The mother who would rather chase some random hook-up than be with her own daughter. Yes, I'm bitter…I...more
I think this book had a lot of potential, but I think overall, the story was very rushed, and the emotions involved were so surface deep.
First of all, I didn't really connect with V's relationship with Sam. It was over just as soon as it started, and I didn't get a chance to fall in love with him. I thought maybe Mackler did this on purpose because V was emotionally involved herself. But I think whereas V got to know Sam and just took him for granted, I didn't get to learn about Sam and what mak...more
